Vic Elford was a guest at a Porsche Club function held in my region. I had one question for him:

What was it like to drive a Porsche 917 through Eau Rouge?

He went on for about 20 minutes about Spa and what it was like back then. Completely mesmerizing. As he began to describe the track, he stopped and asked me if I had ever driven there. Only in my dreams, Vic. Only in my dreams. :-)

He is a frequent guest at PCA functions around the country and always has absolutely amazing stories to tell.

Just saw an onboard with Massa going through Eau Rouge. It is so steep and they are going so fast that they have to turn for the last left hander before they can even see the corner. Insanity!

Another tire brouhaha is not want is needed right now.

I have felt some sympathy for Pirelli because I think a lot of the problems earlier this year have been because they built the tires that the F1 demanded, but to immediately blame debris and external causes stains credibility.

Suzuka is confirmed until 2018.
They are testing a new design to keep the wheels from being able to come off after a pitstop. A double locking nut and change to the spindle or something to that effect.

Obviously no track would be good but with them being at 100% throttle for 80% of the track this is probably the last track a driver would want a tire failure.

Just curious. Can anyone explain exactly how the drivers numbers are assigned at the end of the year for the next year? Vettel being #1 is obvious but why is Webber #2 and Alonso #3?

It's all based on the driver standings, but they don't jump teams. They keep the team mates in order.

Vettel = #1, so Weber by default (same team) is #2.
Alonso = #2, so the next available number is #3. Massa by default gets #4 (same team).
Etc.....

Kind of odd, but that's how they do it.

Rain is forecast,as it always is at Spa,should make things interesting,as it always is at Spa.Changing conditions make for a hard race for the drivers and teams to guess the weather.The winner will be the team that best guesses the weather,and I think that puts it in Red Bulls corner.Just a thought.Massa under a lot of pressure to do well after the ultimatum,he could be a dark horse if the race comes his way.Would like to see him do well.

Eau Rouge is crazy fast when dry,couldn't imagine it in the rain.The blind left at the top of the hill must be terrifying,and trying not to touch the paint at the edges of the track..eek.gif

What an awesome finish to the last MotoGP race at Indy. Rossi passes for 4th on the last lap and Hayden passes his teammate on the last corner. Marquez (R) won all the MotoGP races in the USA. He is really something.

Shame that Massa has to have his back to the wall to perform well. I think theyre just being nice telling him that his performance in the next 2 races will decide his fate. I like Massa but its time for him to retire. Bring on Hulkenberg.

Great last lap,pretty good races through out the weekend.Ordered tickets for next year,if it happens. Great deal on 3 day pass,with Sat.am. pit walk through for $40.00.Putting in vaca,request early next year so i don't get screwed.rolleyes.gif

I stand corrected. You got me thinking, so I researched it. The formula is right, but they rank them via the team's position the previous year, not the driver's. That explains Kimi's number.

Numbers are assigned to all F1 drivers. The previous season's champion is given number 1, and his team-mate is designated number 2.
Numbers are assigned in accordance with each team's position in the previous season's constructors' championship. The number 13 is not designated to any driver.
