Yeah, like that's going to happen. I have never seen anyone change the channel because someone in the audience asked a question that couldn't be intelligently answered. They would just make something up. The kids don't know any better. Besides, that's the way the majority of the population gets through their daily life.....making crap up and hoping people believe it!

For me, as long as the camera coverage is good, i will watch, and all rest of the die-hard F1 fans will watch. If dumbing it down a little ultimately creates new fans to the sport, then maybe long-term it will be good. We here dont need the dumbing down, but perhaps others do.

I just dont want to hear at the start of Monaco, "bogety-bogety-bogety" at the start!!!

never take life seriously

I am looking forward to Ron Howard's Rush, too. It is in post production and is scheduled for release in September. It stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (the handsome but predatory Nazi soldier in Inglourious Basterds), as Niki Lauda. Howard has alway done great work with historically based, character driven films. For example A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon, and Cinderella Man. Lauda is a legendary figure, so I'm anxious to see what Howard does with the story of Lauda's near fatal crash and its amazing aftermath.

But Will Buxton, who will be an NBC pit reporter, says coverage will try to create new F1 fans in the USA.

"If you're watching the race with your 12-year-old son or daughter and they ask you a question, you'll switch it off if you can't answer it because you don't want to sound stupid," Buxton says.

"It will frustrate the diehard fans, but we're going to reinforce the basics so we don't alienate anybody."

I am so ready for the F-1 season to begin I can live with the talking heads, no matter how vacuous they are, as long as I can have the sights and sounds of the racing.

Doesn't really matter to me, Hobbs is the only one I listen to - camera and director work is much more important to me and the F1 crew does much better than what you used to routinely see in the states. The directors clearly didn't understand racing, constantly cutting to other cameras just when a (perfectly predictable) pass was being initiated. The F1 coverage has its issues, but they get the basics better than most anything else I've seen.

I'd say prepare yourself for maximum hype for the guys though. Hopefully it will calm down as the season wears on. At least they're all racing guys, no generic TV host idiot fulfilling his life-long fantasy to be a carnival barker.

The "cutting to other cameras" is handled by the local TV resource, not by Speed (or now NBC). That is why they will often follow a local driver (or favorite) when there is a critical moment elsewhere on the track. This was frequently mentioned by the Speed announcers.

I do love Apollo 13, I even have the BD. (Is that anything like having the tee shirt?smile.gif) I didn't mentionApollo 13 in my earlier post listing other Howard history based biographical films only because I got tired of typing.

I agree.
I came very close to buying one back then.

At the recent Portland Auto Show I did manage to get an up close view of the newest super-duper version....
From a performance POV, a little high-priced.
BUT from an aesthetic POV, it is hard to top....simply gorgeous and sexy and a real head-turner.smile.gif

Absolutely. It is amazing. And when you say no computer help you are right. From what I understand a smartphone has A LOT more computing power than what they had then.

Varsha just gets annoyed being in the bunker, frustrated that they're not showing what he wants to talk about smile.gif They've had a world feed since last year I think, no local control. But that local control wasn't what I was talking about - it never bothered me to have a local driver shown more than he deserved because they usually did it at unimportant times. They also got the basic racing dynamics pretty well.

Where it was absurd was most U.S. racing produced by our networks. Horrible. Jack Arute should spend eternity driving a '62 bug convertible through 3' of snot.

Eve: I thought I was through getting involved with men who were trouble. Falling in love on a look. I can't look at you.

Mickey: You have perfection about you. Your eyes have music. Your heart's the best part of your body. And when you move, every man, woman and child is forced to watch.

Despite the guy being a car salesman, I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him. After all, he unsuspectingly let get behind wheel of one of his cars an accomplished wheelman with incredible hand eye coordination, fast reflexes, and a high testosterone level. That combination would be a recipe to scare the hell out of anybody.smile.gif

I did something similar but a lot less dramatic to my salesperson who sold me my Cadillac CTS-V! I had bought a previous car from her and was buying the V. It's funny how they grab for stuff inside the cabin that isn't there when they become scared! I wonder what Jeff could have done with the top of the line Camaro ZL1? I bought mine in December last year. The fastest car I've owned yet! Made specifically for the road courses not drag racing, although it is running 11:70's stock!
