Someone else mentioned it before, but they had multiple times that they had sound for the car you were riding with, and some other car's engine sound on top of it. It was very obvious as the in-car was slowing for a turn, yet you hear an engine screaming up through the gears accelerating. Quite annoying. Hopefully they got all the bugs worked out on the first go round between the leader board being in the middle of the screen (4:3) and the sound tracks being overlapped.

Also, if I'm being really picky biggrin.gif, there were times that the surrounds drowned out the commentary. Not completely, but enough to be annoying.

I'll have to wait and see if it picks up the Chinese Grand Prix automatically or not with what I currently have programmed into the series recorder.

Even if it worked for you, you'd still need three separate entries because of three different channels.

Easier to do an autorecord, then it gets all channels with one entry. Not sure if mine is picking up the support shows though, I noticed one the other day, can't remember the name. Could have been a repeat of the post race show, which I get from having full time extend.

+1000 That is by far my biggest complaint. Very distracting and disappointing after spending thousands of dollars for a decent home theater experience. F1 is one of the biggest reasons I got a bigger tv.

On my TiVo, which uses Tribune Media Services for its programming guide, my Season Pass just says "Formula One Racing" and it picked up both practices and the race from Malaysia to be recorded. Thus, I strongly suspect that the practices and the races from every F1 venue will be recorded for the rest of the season. I am a bit of a paranoid, though so I'll check whether the China practices and race show up on my To Do list before I get to cocky.smile.gif

The problem is the broadcast, not your equipment.wink.gif

Yep, I have an auto-record wishlist set on my Tivo for Formula One Racing with practice or qualifying disabled in search phrases (i.e. race only), so it doesn't matter what channel it shows up on. I do the same for all the other racing I watch (NASCAR, IndyCar, MotoGP, AMA Pro etc.). Works great.

Yes, NBCSN has some macroblocking on Comcast here but to me it's very minor and the pic quality is great, same for IndyCar. The pic overall looks just as good if not better than it did on Speed, some of this may be due to 1080i vs. 720p. YMMV.

I have DirecTV.
Although the 1080i is higher resolution, the PQ was comparable to the Speed broadcasts IMO.

Although I did not pay close attention, the PQ seemed just fine to me on my 1080p 67" Samsung DLP.

It's so sad that they will only broadcast 4 races on open TV

Well at least we'll have "Unimas" network covering all the rest (I never knew Univision and NBC had some kind of affiliation or maybe that's just with FIA)

When the camera is following the car, the fencing or grandstands etc in the backround become a macroblocky mess. Putting my Tivo into slow motion shows how horrible it is. The PQ on this channel is a lot worse than when the races were on Speed Channel or Fox. It was just as bad when the station was Versus, and it's been this way for years. It has to be something with their broadcast equipment or sumthin. My buddy with DirecTV said he was seeing the same thing, so it's not my TWC feed (which is actually pretty good in my town).
.

Randy, I'm south of you a few miles here in MB, and I have TWC. I noticed the same issues you did with PQ. Additionally the first 10 minutes of the pre-show was macroblocked out, I had to call TWC and they "sent a signal" to my box which seemed to clear it up.

My practice session was totally shot, I had to watch it on the low def channel (267 I believe?) since the HD channel was chunky soup - unwatchable and even started to hang up my DVR when I'd go to it.

I sincerely hope this isn't an indicator of things to come.

Overall however, I found the coverage better than I thought it was going to be. I was waiting for some sort of cheesy "American" style heavy metal intro music, or robots, or a gopher cam. Thankfully none of that showed. The picture in picture was nice, but even on my decent sized tv it was pretty hard to see what was going on.

Looks like tires are going to be an even bigger factor at Malaysia. Another Lotus victory? Im hoping for rain.

Pretty cool to see Varsha back. I guess its just for this race. They said Diffey is doing the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

I hate to see the tires shredding themselves like that. It narrows the passing lane tremendously. I dont know why they dont use jet dryers to blow that crap off the track before the race.

This is no different than Speed/Fox only showing 4 on free TV the last few years. The viewer market for F1 racing here is very small.

Well most of the races are on odd times, 2-3 AM, 6-7AM, where most of the people are sleep, of course not many would watch them, at least live..

The Monaco one this year will be very early in the morning, it doesn't hope for big viewing anyway.. We need more races in this side of the globe, how about racing again at Indianapolis? a Mexico track? one can dream

These tires are going to hurt somebody.

By the end of the race its going to look like somebody cut a racetrack out of clag.

Really enjoyed the coverage of the P2 qualifying session from Malaysia. Varsha, Hobbs, Matchett, and Buxton were all terrific. I, too, worry about the horrible tire degradation problem with the hard tires. That spells trouble and could add to the already considerable dangers of F1 racing. I don't customarily watch qualifying sessions but wanted to see them this time to get a feel for the coverage. It all looks good to me. Bring on Sunday!

Many times, qualifying is more intense than the race itself.

Given how static and boring some of the races are, I can't argue with you.smile.gif More seriously, I used to watch all the qualifying sessions but after a while decided that they were taking more of my time than they were worth.
