Bob Eubanks' KTLA coverage - still the best IMHO - will be on The Hallmark Channel. Can't help but laugh at the number of places we've watched that in HD over the years, spending many a New Year's morning surfing around trying to find it.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

Hanna Storm, anchoring ABC's coverage, had a horrible accident with a propane grill only 3 weeks ago. She suffered second-degree burns on her chest and hands, and first-degree burns to her face and neck. She lost her eyebrows and eyelashes, and roughly half her hair. But she's a trooper - she's back today and looks as great as ever! I've always been a big fan. She got her start in the business as a sports anchor here in Charlotte at the local NBC affiliate WCNC.

HGTV-HD looked like crap on Dish Network. Did it look better for anyone else?

It wasn't bad here (Detroit via BHN) though we stuck to KTLA's coverage (via Hallmark on BHN) and it was just WAY too compressed. I missed the beautiful details we could see back when KTLA had the ONLY HD coverage of the parade and we all watched it on HDNet one year (I think) and DiscoveryHD after that. I'm sure KTLA in LA was great to watch. It's just that BHN has Hallmark throttled way back. Fine for film.

ABC wasn't bad. NBC seemed a lot cleaner than usual, though Detroit's local NBC affiliate chose to skip the parade and give us Kathie Lee and Hoda, instead. Thank God for big antennas.

What is the purpose of announcers on a parade? I tried to watch some of the parade on NBC and that biggest loser chick was cackling loudly all through every band that was on.

Now you know why I watch the KTLA feed.. even though the PQ was sub-par. It's commercial free (except for the obnoxious Hallmark Channel plugs), it's all about parade details (usually fascinating, especially when Eubanks goes off-script) and they let the bands play for a bit.
