This off of the CWs website -

series premiere TUESDAY, FEB. 19 9 .8c

Investigative journalist Jeff Sefton has learned to laugh off his brother Nate's relentless string of obsessions, especially his latest rant that a hit TV show intends to harm him. However, when his brother mysteriously disappears, Jeff takes Nate's paranoia seriously, and in the process uncovers the dark underworld of the TV show "Cult" and its rabid fans. The only person who seems willing to help Jeff with his investigation is Skye, a young research assistant for "Cult," who has also started to grow suspicious of the increasingly dark happenings surrounding the show. The fictitious show, centered on the cat-and-mouse game between charismatic cult leader Billy Grimm and LAPD detective Kelly Collins, has become an obsession for its viewers – and now some of its devotees seem to be taking their fixation to deadly extremes in the real world. As Jeff and Skye dig deeper into the fan world, they discover that the gruesome plot twists on television are much more than fantasy for some very unfortunate people. The hardcore fans of "Cult" would kill to see what happens next…

The series stars Matt Davis ("The Vampire Diaries") as Jeff Sefton, Jessica Lucas ("Melrose Place," "Cloverfield") as Skye Yarrow, Alona Tal ("Supernatural," "The Killing") as Kelly Collins and Robert Knepper ( "Prison Break," "Shameless") as Billy Grimm.

CULT is from Fake Empire and Rockne S. O'Bannon Television in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, with executive producers Rockne S. O'Bannon ("Farscape," "V"), Josh Schwartz ("Chuck," "Gossip Girl"), Stephanie Savage ("Hart of Dixie," "Gossip Girl"), Len Goldstein ("Hart of Dixie") and Jason Ensler ("Franklin & Bash," "Hart of Dixie"). The pilot was directed by Jason Ensler and written by Rockne S. O’Bannon.

Someone might want to fix the topic title, since the show is just called "Cult". I wish Jeff Davis had stayed on The Vampire Diaries, but I'll try this in February, nonetheless.

Help Mods - can you edit the topic to reflect the correct show title for me?

The pilot was pretty good. Great casting for the cult leader.

I was a little disappointed as it looked like too many cooks spoiling the soup? The second act was a little better. I'll have to give it another episode. Knepper seems to be more window dressing at the moment and not any major part.

^^^My schedule shows it repeats on Friday (I think it was) -- at any rate, it was more convenient for me to record the second showing, so that is what I entered into my DVR.

It was VERY complicated. I think it will need a second watching.

Not usually but they really promoted this series so they might though "TA'd" WB runs this show. But you can go to the website and watch episodes.

Ugh - I would hate to have to go that route.

The CW's website is about the worst ever for watching shows on it. Any time I've had to, I felt angry and annoyed enough to want to kick puppies and swear in front of the nearest Amish quilting bee.

Miserable site.

I enjoyed it, which is probably why the ratings were terrible. I hope we get some answers before it's gone.

I think the ratings were terrible because they sat so long on the poor acting of the "show within a show" at the beginning, people probably thought that was the real show. Had I not heard that was the premise before I tuned in, I would have tuned right back out before they got to the "real" show.

Personally, while the show overall isn't bad (once it got rolling, anyway), the constant music bed is very annoying. It feels cheap and it's distracting.

Agreed.  However CW shows have been on Hulu Plus since the start of the season and that's where I watch Arrow since my local CW is only in SD on a subchannel.  They are in HD too.

Comcast recently started putting CW shows On Demand.

Unlike The Following, I might be able to get into this show. While it lasts.

It was interesting. They threw so much at the viewer its hard to decide if its good or bad yet. Kinda daring in a way, expecting the audience to follow all the set up. I liked that its not cookie cutter tv, its not afraid to be different. Course that also means it probably won't last long...This might sound strange, but it reminded me of Ringer. They both assume their audience is smart enough to "get it".It also seems to be what I expected The Following to be. I'm in for as long as it lasts.

TV Notes
'Cult' moves to Fridays on CW
By Lynette Rice, EW.com's 'Inside TV' Blog - Feb. 27, 2013

This can’t be good: the CW is moving the midseason drama Cult to Fridays and replacing it with repeats of other shows — beginning with Beauty and the Beast on March 5.

Cult will bow in its new 9 p.m. Friday timeslot on March 8. The series follows investigative journalist Jeff Sefton (Matt Davis), who is searching for his missing brother and in the process uncovers the dark underworld of the TV show “Cult” and its rabid fans.

Honestly, I'm kind of relieved. The moment I saw "last post by dad1153" on this thread, I immediately assumed Cult had gotten cancelled already, since posting a news article would be the only reason for you to put in an appearance here. rolleyes.gif

I'm also not surprised, since I enjoyed the second episode, which means the show isn't long for this world. Here's hoping the CW doesn't find anything better to put in its place and keeps it around for a while...

For all three of us who might still be watching this, the second Friday episode is tonight, so I wonder if the ratings will get even worse. I hope there is some sort of ending and that we get to see it, at least.

I wasn't completely sold on the series, but was willing to continue watching.

Then the hard drive on my DVR went wonky and I had to swap it out, losing the last episode or two in the process. The made my decision. I didn't bother to set up the series record again.

Elsewhere on AVS, there is a thread wherein it is indicated that a recent survey shows that most people are doing other things while a show or movie is on. And that ain't gonna work for CULT. You do have to pay attention, which is a hell of a lot to ask of today's audiences. And while I wouldn't say this one of my must-sees, I was intrigued enough to keep watching. But if I hear it's going to be dropped without any resolution, I'm out.

For some odd reason, Hollywood -- both the movie and TV components -- often releases two competing productions dealing with the same subject matter at the same time. Think the two asteroid-hitting-earth movies or the two volcano-erupting movies of a few years back, etc. They cannibalize each other.

This season we had two similarly themed cult serial killer shows, one of which was on a Big Four broadcast network with all of its marketing muscle, and one was on the red-headed stepchild of the broadcast world with virtually no marketing effort behind it. Most folks in the televiewing audience only have the stomach to sample one of these kinds of shows. Which one was it going to be?
