Wildcard Saturday 1/5

Bengals at Texans. 4:30pm ET NBC
Dan Hicks, Mike Mayock and reporter Alex Flanagan.

Minnesota at Green Bay. 8 p.m. ET NBC.
Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, and reporter Michele Tafoya.

WNBC-DT NYC FiOS TV

CIN @ TX.
I figured they would use Tom Hammond for the early game. Who did they use last year?

Getting the usual PQ issues from WNBC.
The field gets soft and grainy with compression artifacts during any camera movement.
There's compression artifacts around the edges of the score bar.

About how I would describe the quality of KARE11 in Minneapolis OTA as well.

Someone mounted one of the surround mics on a metal pole, now you've got a Texans fan with a hammer banging on that pole every time the Texans are on defense- annoying.

On screen graphics are sharp and easy to read on my 42 inch vizio tv and closeups of players are great. Out of all the networks broadcasting the playoffs, CBS is still the gold standard while Fox is poor quality.NBC is stuck in the middle. Back when ABC had the NFL their quality was hit and miss.

I see they have that motormouth from the NFL network on the early game. He talks way to much, more than any other.

I hope this is his last broadcast.

Shut upppppppp already

I agree. Just as annoying as Joe Buck and his fox nfl co anchors. At least Erin Andrews is easy on the eyes.

WNBC-DT

Sounded like a bad xlr cable on Cris Collinsworth's hand mic. Audio kept cutting out with a grounding hum.

Well, here's hoping the NFC game tomorrow will be better than this mess. I imagine that NBC brass let out a huge collective groan as soon as it was announced that Webb would be the starting QB for Minnesota, has Webb even completed a single pass? On an up note, Collinsworth made a compelling case for Peterson winning the MVP as this team is nothing without him.

Looks great and sounds great via KNTV - San Francisco - Comcast.

720P sucks for sports. 1080i looks crisp and clean by comparison.

42" in the dining room.
50" in the bedroom
80" in the living room

65" in the family room
106" in the family room

I have to disagree. On cable ESPN has 100% better PQ then NFL Network.
ESPN has no macro blocking and minimal motion artifacts. Any movment on NFLN causes motion artifacts and macro blocking.

I'll take 720p with no macroblocking over 1080i with macroblocking.

On WCBS-DT 1080i IND @ BAL any time the camera pans we get motion artifacts, macroblocking and grainy video.

Let me add that 720p can have bad PQ to. The NFL on FOX on WNYW-DT FOX5 NYC has no macroblocking, there is however heavy motion artifacts on the main field cams.

In my market that would be NBC, consistently the best audio and video. The worst would be the NFL Network, they've aired whole games with their audio signal mapped to the wrong channels.

Audio quality or usage of sound?

I guess NBC for actual quality.

But best 5.1 mix goes to CBS or Fox. I feel like I'm at the sideline when watching those two stations most of the time, or at least in the first few rows. When I watch ESPN and NBC I feel like I'm watching TV at home with a bunch of loud drunks screaming and about to spill beer on me. Plus I feel like the announcers at night are worse then most of the day announcers, which is odd because most of the CBS/FOX announcers are awful. I need to get some remote control switch for my center channel so I can just mute them at will from the couch. Sports are so much better that way.

My ESPN is pretty good, but NFL network is flawless and their graphics aren't as annoying as all the other stations. I'm on Comcast in southern jersey.

Not seeing that on WCCO, CBS in Minneapolis.  But not one of their better productions.  Plenty of noise.

My problems on WCBS-DT are compression artifacts and video grain during any camera moment on the field cams..
There's macroblocking on the closeup shots with any camera movement.

Same here in Pueblo 100 miles south of Denver. Had it on DirecTV and also on OTA. Our local CBS has horrible PQ to begin with since they used too much bandwidth for their sub or they just have bad equipment. When this station first started with HD it was brilliant.

Same here in San Francisco, KPIX-Comcast. Artifacting on movement, been like that awhile though. KPIX has progressively gotten worse with both video and audio over the last few years. They used to be the best in the market. That title belongs to NBC - KNTV now.

No audio stuttering here.

Watching it on WCBS-DT on fios hd. Great picture quality but mediocre sound with an echoey buzz. This also is common in wcbs' filmed programming as well as news.

GB @ SF WNYW-DT FiOS TV

Getting the usual compression artifacts and motion artifacts on the players from all the field cams.

Well, CBS' AFC Playoff dreams of a Manning vs. Brady mini-Super Bowl are out the window. Blame Manning's interception and the Ravens not freaking stopping. smile.gif

They should be blaming Denvers blown passing defense in the last minute of regular time.
