I checked today and confirmed that my TiVo's season pass for Ripper Street is still in effect so I won't care when the Season 2 premiere runs so long as my TiVo does its thing and records it.

All mentions of S2 on BBC America's website now list a start time of 9pm on 2/22.

I too was delighted to learn that Amazon had picked up Ripper Street. It would have been a disgrace for a show this good to die after only two seasons, a total of merely 16 episodes.

DVRed episodes of Ripper here on Tampa FL Brighthouse. Unwatchable picture and sound skips. Anyone else ever have this problem with Brighthouse and a BBCA show?

Was perfect for me on D*. I was very impressed with the Cinematography in this episode was uniformly excellent. Completely captured the late 19th century.

Enjoying this season. Did not anticipate Irish person Flight of being in league with Shine.

This show is good, but it has its faults. OTOH, I am glad it was picked up by Amazon since I enjoy watching Jerome Flynn as much here as on Game of Thrones.

Jerome Flynn is a fine actor. His performances as the tortured Detective Inspector Bennet Drake, are a joy to watch, almost as much fun to watch as his performances on Game of Thrones as Tyrion's tough guy henchman, Bronn. If Bennet had a sense of humor to go along with his thugier side, as Bronn does, he would be a much happier camper. smile.gif More seriously, I like Ripper Street a lot. Matthew Macfadyen is also a fine actor, as is just about everybody else in the show's large ensemble cast.

For those of us watching on DirecTV, is Season 2 "over"? Noticed on my DVR that the original air dates were December and checking on IMDB seemed to show the episode that aired 2 Saturday's ago as the last one for this season.

Just want to confirm that this season has ended until Amazon starts airing new ones.

The Ripper Street S2 finale aired on April 12 on BBC America.

Keep in mind that while BBC One cancelled Ripper Street, BBC America did not, and is co-producing S3 with Amazon. From the articles I read, S3 will definitely premiere on Amazon in the UK before it possibly airs on UK television. However, in the United States, that might not be the case. My guess is that S3 premieres on BBC America first, then Amazon soon after (possibly even within a week of the TV broadcast).

Amazon Prime Premiers 14 November 2014 in the US

http://www.denofgeek.com/tv/ripper-s...date-announced

I'm unclear whether Amazon Prime has this for free

Do we need to create a new thread because it's no longer on BBCA???

According to the news item I read Ripper Street season 3 will also air in 2015 on BBC and BBCA. It's just that Amazon has first bite of the apple.

I would consider the middle of the third month of the year "early", yes. But to answer your real question, IIRC, I saw a commercial for it to return April 29th. Which probably doesn't qualify as "early".

Just watched S03E01 last night and it's better and darker than ever IMO. The new villains make the show's namesake look like a boyscout...

I agree. I watched all of season 1 and all of season 3 to date. But I have yet to watch season 2 on Netflix so the changes of shown in some of the characters is significant.

Watched 2 and 3 tonight.

Most of the change is since the end of season 2, 4 year lapse I believe? Drake has completely reinvented himself as a master of reason and self-control, while the former model of decorum Reid has gone off the rails. They gave Drake most of the scenes in ep 3 and he nailed them all...

Edit> Another great episode (5) without Reid - Jackson, the Chief and Grace all step up, with Jackson's forensics skill and Grace's use of Reid's under-appreciated "database" being the keys to solving the murders. (though of course if Jackson hadn't passed out in the bar it would have saved everyone a lot of trouble and prevented the 2nd murder).

I just watched the finale last night. Although I thought much of this season was uneven, I thought the last episode was excellent and had a very satisfying ending to the series.

I thought introducing Susan's father at the last minute to take most of the fall for her was a bit lame, but still a great season. I'll miss this along with Whitechapel and Copper...

Gandu, I went back to 2013 and can't find the post you mention - did I miss it?

Edit> But apparently that's true - I found this:

http://renewcanceltv.com/ripper-stre...instant-video/

The last episode certainly seemed like a series-ender, what with Reid's obituary and all...

Edit2> Maybe without MacFayden? That would fit with the bumps in screen time for Flynn, the Chief, Grace etc...

Edit3> Scratch that - MacFayden is back - found this quote from him:

"I'm delighted to be embarking on another does of 'Ripper Street' -- blood and guts, pocket watches and Victorian headgear, wonderfully dark, moving and mysterious storylines from [writer and creator] Mr. Richard Warlow,"

Yep, Sargent Bennet Drake in Ripper Street is played by Jerome Flynn, who also plays Bronn on Game of Thrones.

You did not miss it, I plead temporary insanity
The good news is an excellent show will be around for (at least) two additional seasons.

I guess Detective Inspector Edmund Reid's brain damage was not as severe as originally depicted.

Maybe Jackson will come up with some revolutionary treatment. Still hard to reconcile Reid's return with "the Peace of Edmund Reid" episode - they have their work cut out for them to undo it's bittersweet closure. I suppose the obituary narration will turn out to be farther in the future than we assumed...

The recuperative powers of TV show characters are nothing short of miraculous.
