According to this article reposted in HOTP, Netflix is going to be using 15.6 Mbps H.265 for its UHD series, of which House of Cards is supposedly the first. That should put the quality on-par with its current 1080p streams, which use 7 Mbps H.264.

Netflix’s ‘House Of Cards’ Renewed For Third Season
By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Tuesday February 4, 2014 @ 10:49am PST | deadline.com

Netflix is confirming that it has officially picked up a third season of House Of Cards. This marks the first renewal for the Washington DC drama, which originally landed at the streaming company with a straight-to-series two-season order. The deal for a third season comes after months of negotiations and ahead of House Of Cards’ second-season debut next week. “Our intent is that the show keep going for sure,” Netflix‘s Ted Sarandos said back in October. “It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons.” House Of Cards has become a signature series for Netflix the way Mad Men has been for AMC. It put the streaming service on the original programming map and opened the door to creators and producers. Netflix’s follow-up series, Hemlock Grove and Orange Is The New Black, both have been renewed for a second season, and Netflix is continuing negotiations for another installment — episodes or movie — of Arrested Development. Netflix’s $100 million commitment to MRC-produced House Of Cards off of a pitch raised eyebrows at the time as one of the biggest gambles in recent TV history, with the streaming giant outbidding a bevvy of TV heavy hitters. Netflix recently made another gigantic commitment to four series and a miniseries from Marvel.

So is any hardware actually available to purchase that will get the stream in 4K?

I thought a few UHDTV manufacturers were supposed to be releasing models that had integrated Netflix streaming for this purpose, but which companies were involved escapes me at present.

Right, I'm wondering if any of those CES announcements actually turned into shipping products that beat the premier of the new season.

I suppose a Mac or PC with sufficient Internet service, graphics capabilities and a 4K monitor could do it.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/netflix-app-to-stream-ultra-hd-4k-video-on-new-tvs/

Netflix says video streaming of its programming in ultra-high definition will work for buyers of new UHD sets from LG, Sony, Samsung, Vizio and others upon purchase.

That's because Ultra HD models from those makers will include the Netflix app and chips that decode signals in the so-called High Efficiency Video Coding standard, or HEVC.

So I suppose you buy one of those 4K TV's you can get the 4K stream.

It could but I seriously doubt they have updated any PC apps to do it.

Still early yet. Chicken and egg kind of thing, I would suspect. Perhaps 'House of Cards' will be the first commercially available 4K telecast...? That would give it a place in history. I'd think Netflix would like that.

Mid way & yes it's good. The cat and mouse is excellent. Much more subtle than last season.
It's a challenge to hit pause on the 12 second clock between epps.

The 4th wall seems toned down a bit, with more looks than commentary.

Have Fun wink.gif

First episode of S2 was a killer (forgive the pun)! As hard as it will be my wife and I are going to space out the episodes a bit to last until April (when Game of Thrones and Orphan Black return).

I'm through episode 8, and it's incredible how good season 2 is. Much better than last year, and last year was very good.

I had heard that, too, and for much of the episode it was pretty ho-hum, but the cliffhanger ending will hit you like a freight train! This is definitely the way to start a new season, the CableCos better watch out!

Awesome season, worth more than the $8 I paid to activate my Netflix just for house of cards. If they keep up I see this show going as long as the west wing and FU becoming the President.

Last two scenes in ep11 were just plain creepy. Like 2 predators sharing a kill (although something a little different)
and thinking nothing of it the next morning. The AM comments from both added to the creepiness and will have some of us
harking back to Clinton Chronicles territory. Hints from season one were obvious, but this crossed a Kinsey Scale Taboo.

Of note, the newly wired VPOTUS lower floors are hardly the place to let something like this happen.

Sure, but the idiom is about freight trains, and if I said subway it'd be a spoiler wink.gif

I finally watched the first episode of season 2 last night and with no adaptive streaming quirks. What I didn't realize from watching season 1 which I did on my old RPTV was that the show is shot and presented in 2:1 aspect ratio. The old RPTV wasn't shimmed so I didn't see the black bars but I turned off overscan on the new LED set so got the full 2:1 aspect ratio.
