I presume that Bjorn inherited the "throne" but why was Ragnar's wife still appearing to have some stature ?

She was in charge while Ragnar was on business trips, though the stay-behinds were mostly women and children. She was some kind of queen in her own right when Ragnar first found her. Bjorn seems to have become a confident leader, but not so interested in the manipulative politics and intrigue aspects - more like Rollo than Ragnar. Lagertha would be more of a natural at ruling but she's apparently still occupied elsewhere...

Very see-saw season. Some good moments (Bjorn all alone), and some really bad moments.

Totally hate this whole opium addiction thing with Ragnar, really badly done and out of place and takes away from the character and his bad a**ness.

Cool battle scene on the water though. Really up and down for me as I binged watch most of this season to date.
Some of the episodes were outstanding, some not so much.

I think it sort of ballsy that they are making Ragnar a flawed character. These were not especially nice people. Bound to be a bit of bad karma.

Did a fun discovery today when I looked at my wifes family history. Managed to go all the way to Sigurd Snake in the Eye. Of course history is a bit cloudy in thar era. But I may get her interested in the show now.

Well as some things come to a close, others begin. Vikings starts up again tomorrow on Wednesday. TV must go on.

Yesterday my daughter sent me a text giving me a heads up about the return of Vikings. It's a good thing she did. I bought a new TiVo Bolt last summer and somehow overlooked setting up a season pass for the show, although one was on my old TiVo Premiere Elite. Really looking forward to the show's return!

HT setup: Sony 75XBR X940D UHD HDR TV; Kaleidescape Strato Movie Server 6 TB; Yamaha RX-A3060 AV receiver; Sonamp 2-1 2channel 100W power amp; Crestron Control System; 2 Rythmik FV18 subwoofers, 6 Hsu HB-1 Bookshelf speakers, 1 Hsu HC-1 Center speaker, 4 Focal ICW8 in-ceiling Atmos speakers; Oppo UDP-203 4K HDR BD player; Mac Mini HTPC. TiVO Bolt 1TB DVR; TiVo Premiere Elite 2 TB DVR; Roku Premiere+

Not sure what you are asking but if I get the question, no, this was the start of the new season and it is now on every week. Another new episode is listed next week.

Actually it's listed on ZAP2IT as S04E11. Amazon also lists S04E01 - S04E10 as "season 4 part 1".

I thought I remembered it as being a 13-ep season...

Last night's episode was the first of the 10 episode second part of season 4. Season 4 was increased to 20 episodes.

Thanks for sharing that information; I was not aware of the season four layout.

It's just semantics. A big time-jump like that would normally occur "between" seasons. When networks start splitting seasons, then selling shiny-disk sets that only include those half-seasons, the line between seasons is no longer distinguishable. It's whatever the network or studio wants to call it.

THat's what I was wondering since last night's episode was SE4E11 they also referred this as season 4 "part 2", now it makes more sense.

Hmmm, not much love for the Vikings this season? Not the Minnesota Vikings mind you.

Major turn of events on last night's episode that pretty much follows the "historical" accounts....

I noticed the lack of activity in the thread, wondering if people, like me, are recording the season so far for viewing in the new year once the holiday rush has passed. Just haven't had time to queue it up yet...

Doesn't seem like a good time of the year to debut a new season of a serialized drama.

Agreed. Of all the sons besides Bjorn, I think they did the best job casting the actor who plays Ivar.

Some of the best episodes of the whole series. Call me sentimental, which I am, but I would have shown Ragnar being led to Valhalla by the Valkyries, and then venturing outside the great hall to meet Athelstan in a different place...My Kleenex box is now empty.

As terrific as the young actor has been who has played Ivar recently, I have a hunch he will be replaced next season by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who has been announced as a guest star for next season. Despite his well known substance abuse problems, Rhys Meyers is a supremely talented actor. I suspect that he will become the older Ivar the boneless.
