Got bored tonight and was watching some old Knight Rider episodes. Started to turn away and decided to see what G4 had to offer in the schedule since I haven't watched that channel in years. It looks like Xplay is the only somewhat tech related show left. Is this for real? Is this channel really that bad? How could INHD and it's ilk die off and this still be around?

It doesn't exist. It was announced last year that G4 will be Esquire network in a few months.

Also, all tech shows on it like Xplay have already been cancelled.

Man I miss TechTV. It was a sad day when it became the steaming pile of crap that is (was) G4.

I kinda abandoned it when I saw it was going downhill. I think right after the G4 name change. Then , years after I would see all the hosts from TechTV doing other things saying to myself "Hey that guy/gal used to be on TechTV".
After watching last night the Xplay guys gotta feel like "What am I doing here? Oh well ,it's a job" Such a shame that the original channel is gone. I actually picked up a few tips from them guys.
Anyone think we'll get another one?

I abandoned that channel when it went from TechTV to G4. Don't think Comcast can drive NBC any further into the ground, but we shall see.

Nice, but allowing that to be aired with a bug (on yet ANOTHER channel that abandoned its original purpose- this is hardly independent nor a film) is a double-standard. Also, how did this guy get MTV just by setting up an old analog TV? In reality he'd get nothing except whatever low-power analog stations might still be in that area.

What are you talking about?

MTV is still available on analog basic cable in many areas. My parents still have analog service through Time Warner and it's in their package - though they never tune to it for any reason....

Heck, even over the air, an analog TV will still work if the guy has a converter box somewhere we didn't see it (though he wouldn't get MTV that way...ever).

Honestly, though, even if MTV went back to showing music videos, I still wouldn't watch. Music videos haven't been any good since 1992.

I thought they were just rerunning previously aired X-Play & AOTS (and Knight Rider) until the change over....

In some markets, but there are plenty of markets where analog cable is still very much in use by a very vocal population that is perfectly happy with it. They don't want a box, they don't want to replace their TVs and they don't care if you want HD or not.

I see the Esquire thing is in effect now. Funny thing is I read it was supposed to be "guy" oriented. Yet the next few days is like 6 hour blocks of Sex in the City and Project Runway. Sure like to meet the "guys" they had in the focus group when they put that lineup together.

When I saw that lineup, I thought to myself, "are you kidding me?". I guess they're targeting a different "guy" demographic than we had assumed. Not that there's anything wrong with that, as Seinfeld would say.

Esquire replaced the Style Network. G4 still exists, but as a zombie network. It shouldn't cost them anything to reboot AOTS, with Sara Jean as the host, but NBCU apparently has no idea what to do with it now, so they are doing nothing.

Maybe they forgot to connect the line at the top of the "a" and ended up with a "u" in the middle of the "g" and the "y".

The sad part is that they fired the whole G4 staff of employees to develop this "men's lifestyle network", then changed their mind about the entire plan. Now it is just a derelict channel that forever broadcasts repeats, and most of The Style Network will probably lose their jobs too.

Time Warner Cable already dropped G4 - it seems it will be dead soon.

They already have Bravo in their portfolio, which has been targeting gay viewers for years. The promos for Esquire Network that ran earlier this year showed a lot of programming about cooking, drinking and some adventure-type stuff. Nothing like what has aired so far. Either they have a lot of planned programming that isn't ready yet, or they've given up on their original plans for the network already.

Just now noticed that the G4 station is still running. Showing old Airwolf re-runs. I gotta admit though I did like Airwolf. Programming is stupid across the board I have to say. Channels and channels of junk. I know somebody is watching it but come on. Xplay re-runs? Who would care? A new crop of games coming and came out since.
