Should also mention that this episode marked the return of Ellen Muth ("Dead Like Me") as the "crazy chick" to TV.

God, what a depressing show! Although if only they could get rid of the Graham character, I'd really like it.

Here's a word to the wise: whatever you do, DO NOT EVER read a Thomas Harris novel. If you do, you may need therapy, from Dr. Lecter perhaps?smile.gif

I'm confused. Why didn't Hannibal want Will to know what was wrong with him?

My take is its simply Hannibal's growing & continuos manipulation& study of Will. Hannibal is fascinated by Will, and at least on the surface seems to see him as a lab rat of sorts. Keeping Will thinking his escalating problems are strictly psychological allows Hannibal to continue to condition Will. Both Jack & Hannibal are willing to push Will to the edge to get what they want from him. The lie about the brain scan is simply Lecter's way of doing so.

As well, Lecter's continued "study" of Will helps the good doctor manipulate the FBI along with Will to steer them clear of suspecting his own culinary hobby. For now....

That's how I saw it too. The last thing Hannibal wanted Will to know was that Will's demons were the result of an infection and not mental illness. Hannibal was so certain of the necessity to keep the secret from Will, he took steps to insure that the neurologist who diagnosed Will's encephalitis could never tell Will about it.smile.gif

I know, and one of his Med School buddies too! eek.gif It's not like Hannibal has so many friends he can afford to lose any. tongue.gif

And the nutty girl was DLM's Ellen Muth?! eek.gif I never would have guessed.

Yep, the dead looking crazy girl was played by Ellen Muth. I agree that she didn't look much she did in Dead Like Me, although she had the same name, "Georgia." I guess Bryan Fuller likes to recycle his Dead Like Me characters' names, just like he has done with its star.smile.gif

Lecter will certainly take anyone out who poses a threat to his various interests, both personal & culinary/murderous, be they friendly or otherwise. Not to mention those he finds superficial, are of no use to him or offend his sensibilities. While he is manipulating Will for more than one reason, he does on some level care about him. Not on a level he does later for Clarice, of course - in either book or film version. As well, he has a certain number of "friends" who both stimulate him intellectually & serve a purpose for him who are at least far less likely to have parts of them become next Saturday's main course.

I couldn't believe the doctor agreed to lie to Will about it. It was a huge risk to take considering he could lose his practice over it. Oh well, Hannibal made sure he won't get caught! eek.gif

Well it seems the number of posts here match the ratings..

I can't believe people aren't watching this show, I guess they like pro Sports better (I haven't watched an NBA game since MJ retired)

Anyway huge episode, Will kills another person, unknown infection, the plot thickens

The last 2 episodes look even better..

Eddie Izzard is amazing! He should be nominated for a supporting role!

Random thoughts: Another great episode. Glad Dr. Lecter will be with us for at least another season. Another clever way to frame another killer for his dirty deeds, and get Will to clean up the loose ends. How long can Will hang on to his sanity?

And as far as Will is concerned, who is the bigger sociopath? Hannibal, who's treating him like a lab rat and trying to drive him insane? Jack, who's using him like a wet dishrag to solve his toughest cases? Or Alana, who's c***teasing him crazy? Poor Will - they're all trying to get him to lose his mind. tongue.gif

And he's too stupid to seek medical attention or see the blindingly obvious signs in front of him.

Actually, he did seek medical attention. He was convinced by medical professionals that his problems are psychological.

Yes, I'm aware that he went to one doctor who did one test and lied to him about the results. But, as his symptoms continue to get worse, he just ignores it even as others are noticing and commenting to him. rolleyes.gif

The show started off with some promise, but seems to be aimlessly wandering... It's got The Following syndrome. The characters behave in totally unbelievable and preposterous ways.

Really now, putting 'Hannibal' and 'The Following' in the same sentence shouldn't be allowed. This is a far superior effort.

Not sure I can agree there, it is different stylisticly (some may find superior) but I don't think it is exactly smart television either. I dropped it so what do I know though, it may've gotten better.

I just wish they would the whole hallucination stuff with Will, man that is getting sooo old and is just filler. The walls pouring water, multiple scenes, means nothing and we waste a large chunk of the show watching Will look all nervous at the running water.

Yes, I was laughing out loud mocking the show by the 3rd episode of The Following. I didn't watch any more after that. I just grumble and roll my eyes while watching Hannibal. I haven't stopped watching yet, but it's getting close. Is it better? Yes. Much better? I'm not sure.

"The Following" seemed to be using a "standard template" that got a little too obvious by episode 3. Same ol', same ol'. "Hannibal" is a little more devious in any template used. It's more inventive and something one might find more on a cable network.

More inventive? They would have to do something to be inventive. I admit it's hard to say anything negative about the show as virtually nothing happens. smile.gif I'm guessing one season equals roughly one episode of other shows. Outside of those murder of the week shows of which my DVR avoids like the plague.

That's hi-larious! I'm surprised that hasn't happened to me. As an architect, I'm constantly taking pictures of interesting details I find in buildings including, yes, airports. But as I look like the whitest white boy you've ever seen, I guess I don't fit the terrorist profile. tongue.gif

I would disagree that nothing happens. It's a show more about psychological manipulation than violence and gore (although it's got some of that as well). To me, a great deal happens - but then I tend to enjoy these kind of shows where you don't have to turn your brain off when you turn the set on.

And, like you, I avoid procedurals at all costs. They bore me, and life is too short to waste any of it on boring entertainment. I don't view this show as a procedural, though. And I'm finding the performance of Mads Mikkelsen absolutely mesmerizing. Very glad it got renewed.

Lots of "Scully" and we now know that she's real, I wonder if the patient that attacked her is Hannibal himself (they didn't say what happened to the patient, if they caught it or he's dead)

Abigail is in big trouble, will Hannibal kill her right there? he said sorry so I suppose he does.

So far Hannibal has managed to blame Will of all the copycat murders and almost convinced Jack. Next week's is going to be interesting.
