As much as I pretty well know this is going to happen, it pisses me off. Ms. Maslany deserves better than this.

Perhaps the Emmy brain trust (sic) couldn't figure out which of several excellent actresses on Orphan Black to give it to?

you said it!

while every actress is talented, they have to roll out the same old same old, like Julia Roberts?? c'mon. I really don't get why 1) she's always that highly thought of and 2) she's already had her time of glory. isn't it time to pass the torch? aren't there other talented actresses more deserving?

Game of Thrones, yes I can see it & actors deserving noms.

maybe the show isn't mainstream enough or she's not made the Hollywood rounds. or maybe the Emmy group couldn't spell her name

at least she knows she & the show have an avid fan base.

I don't bother watching Emmys & Oscars because it always seems to be a popularity contest as much as it is about raw talent.

Mental gears were stripped when the academy was considering whether to give her the "best actress" or "best supporting actress" award (seriously, though, that would have been a *hoot* for them to do just that!).

Probably because they don't watch TV. Seriously, many of them don't. It's why you see "movie stars" getting automatic nominations when they appear on TV shows simply because it's a name the Academy voters recognize.

It's a pretty pathetic system for an industry awards show. The Peabody's and TCA awards shows are much more emblematic of the best the television industry has to offer. But for some strange reason, the Emmy's get all the pub and all the love.

This just proves that the Emmy awards are a joke. I definitely won't be watching. There is no way in hell that Tatiana Maslany doesn't deserve a nomination for best actress.

Do BBCA shows usually get nominated? I can't remember any of their shows getting nominations anytime recently. It's unfortunate as Tati deserves at least a nomination for her role.

It's been said that the surest way to get an Emmy nomination is to already have gotten one the year before. Or, as I said above, be a movie star.

Like Tim Goodwin said in a piece yesterday, it's a broken system and needs to be fixed. It's ridiculous Tats or Keri Russell (for her amazing work in 'The Americans', which also deserved a best series nod) weren't even nominated.

Only if they air on PBS - then they're considered "worthy".

Apparently, though, British shows can only get an Emmy if they're period costume dramas. For anything else, it's BAFTA or nothing.

Even worse that Eva Green wasn't nominated for her most outstanding performance(s) (IMO better than both Tats or Keri Russell- whom were both excellent) in Penny Dreadful. Although, there's some question as to if Penny Dreadful/cast were eligible for this years vote because of it's late air date?

I agree with what's being said here about Tatiana being robbed; to me there's simply no comparison between the work she's doing on this show and any other actress on TV. The highest compliment I can give her is that while watching you completely buy that they're all different people. Just the technical challenges must be enormous and to make it so absolutely real is an incredible achievement. Not to mention she's in every frame of every shot (and sometimes several times over!)

I also agree about the academy going for the big (read, movie star) names; they always seem to do that. I don't know if it's a prestige thing or just busy professionals who go with what they know. I was a voting member of NARAS (Grammys) for many years and I have to admit there were years when I hadn't had time to listen to everything, so I voted for who I knew.

there is one consolation prize for Tatiana in this - she's getting a whole lot of press about not being nominated. all the people who don't know anything about Orphan Black may discover how good she really is.

can't hurt her career just seeing her name mentioned in numerous Emmy headlines for the past 2 days.

And having people like Claires Danes, again! and Michelle Dockery? I'm bored with Danes' quivering chin and Dockery, while she is good I don't recall anything that would be considered "best of show" in her recent performances on Downton.

It would be nice to see Tatiana get some awards... but I think she's getting a lot of recognition and praise all over the place now. She is still probably underrated for her efforts on this show... but the awards shows are a different kind of popularity contest. They aren't so much awards for performance, as they are a performance show themselves... so they tend to nominate people that will give their show ratings... it's a "reality" show when you really boil it down.

I'm not insulting the people who accept awards... just saying their nomination, lack of nomination, winning, or losing is not a sign of their actual accomplishments or actual popularity/approval for their work.

Me do not have signature.

It doesn't help that she is on a genre show, and one that people tend to look down their noses at. She can commiserate with Keri Russell and Emmy Rossum who has done some really good work on Shameless and has yet to be nominated. I wish all the buzz around her not getting a nom would lead to more people watching.

Emmy votes are audited. I'll bet if they they look at the raw data they'll find with the # of votes nearly evenly split between Sarah, Allison, Cosima and Helena with no character having enough in total to be nominated.

If I buy season 1 on Blu-ray, which is the native frame rate: 23.976 or 25 fps.

It's a BBCA show, so it should be 23.976 or 24 fps.

The BBC is involved as well, hence the question. Is it shot (not filmed ) in the U.S. or Canada? If on this side of the pond, then it should natively be 23.976.

I have a couple of season 1 USA BD direct rips of the m2ts files- they're 23.976 FPS.

FWIW- the Season 2 Blu-ray disks from Amazon came Tuesday.

The show was recorded in Canada at least during the first season, as evidenced by the license plates on the cars.

I have it, but you would have to show me how to check for you. I have a Sony BDP-S1100 as a quick replacement for my ailing Samsung BD-2550, but I do not have a computer based BD drive.

BBC America's Critically-Acclaimed Original Series "Orphan Black" Begins Production on Season Three
Season three plunges the clone sisterhood into unexpected territory with the realization that they're not alone.

[via press release from BBC America]
BBC AMERICA'S CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED ORIGINAL SERIES "ORPHAN BLACK" BEGINS PRODUCTION ON SEASON THREE

Tatiana Maslany and Ari Millen square off for an explosive new season

Toronto - October 16, 2014 - Production has begun on the third season of BBC AMERICA's Peabody Award-winning series Orphan Black. The conspiracy thriller (10 x 60) stars award-winner, Tatiana Maslany, who returns to her unprecedented lead role as multiple clones. The critically-acclaimed, action-packed series that sparked an inspired fan base named Clone Club, unveiled new and more treacherous enemies in season two. But it was the finale that shocked viewers when it introduced a male line of clones, raising more complex questions that left viewers on the edge of their seats. Orphan Black is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC AMERICA and Bell Media's Space.

Maslany played five recurring characters throughout season two including British street-wise chameleon Sarah, suburban soccer-mom Alison, cosmic-thinking scientist Cosima, Ukrainian wildcard Helena and ruthless pro-clone Rachel. In addition, she raised the bar by taking on the roles of Transgender clone, Tony, and sick and dying clone, Jennifer. Maslany continues to earn critical accolades including two Critics' Choice awards and her first Golden Globe(C) nomination.

"Season two of Orphan Black not only doubled its audience, it also treated fans to double the number of clones," says Perry Simon, General Manager, BBC AMERICA. "Our network's commitment to creating long-lasting original programming that hooks viewers and never lets them go is perfectly illustrated through this buzz-worthy series."

Season three plunges the clone sisterhood into unexpected territory with the realization that they're not alone. Just when they thought they knew their enemies and allies, season three reveals our clones are more vulnerable than ever before. Highly trained, identical male-soldiers raise more questions than answers. Who are these new clones? Who created them? And more importantly, why do they exist? Sarah, Cosima, Alison and Helena are stronger together than they are apart, but this season will put that bond to the test. Will they forge towards their truth, or fall at the feet of those that seek to control them?

Returning in a lead role is Ari Millen, who plays the newly discovered male clones - Mark, the Prolethean cult follower and Rudy, a prisoner of war. Also back this season is Jordan Gavaris as Sarah's fiery foster brother Felix, Dylan Bruce as Paul, an army officer working for secret forces in the clone world, Maria Doyle Kennedy as Sarah and Felix's duplicitous foster mother Mrs. S, Evelyne Brochu as Dyad Scientist and Cosima's lover Delphine, Kevin Hanchard as Art, a detective caught in the clone trap, Michiel Huisman as Cal, father to Sarah's daughter Kira (Skyler Wexler) and Zoé De Grand Maison as Gracie, a Prolethean escapee. Additional casting for the series will be announced in the coming weeks.

"We are incredibly proud and delighted to be commencing production on season three of Orphan Black," commented David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, executive producers of Orphan Black and Co-Presidents of Temple Street Productions. "We've been fortunate to work with one of the best cast and crews in the business for the last two seasons. We could not be happier about the success of the show and how it continues to be embraced by audiences around the world."

"We are thrilled to be underway on another season of the gripping original series Orphan Black with our wonderful partners Temple Street Productions and BBC AMERICA," said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media. "After the shocking finale of Season 2, we are excited to share with our viewers the next dramatic twists and turns in the clone conspiracy, as conceived by series creators Graeme Manson and John Fawcett."

BBC AMERICA's Orphan Black became the first ever ad-supported drama series to double its ratings from season one to season two in A25-54 and 18-49 in Live+7.* The original series is co-created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, with Manson also serving as writer and Fawcett as director. The international hit series is distributed by BBC Worldwide and can be seen in more than 170 countries. The first two seasons are currently available on Blu-ray and DVD and via digital download on all partner platforms. Season one is available for live streaming through Amazon Prime. For more information on where to catch up on Orphan Black, visit www.bbcamerica.com/orphanblack.

Orphan Black is shooting in Toronto through March 2015 and returns on BBC AMERICA in Spring 2015
