Not to get too far OT- but I have 6,500 mi on my Volt and have used 16.1 gal of gas.
400+ mpg isn't to bad
If you can live w/a 4-seater the Volt may be for you...

I've had the regular Prius, the PIP, and the Volt- PM me if you'd like to discuss hybrids Arch..

I don't know the family but the director Sharknado and Sharknado 2 is a hometown boy. It's not on his IMDB entry (not much there other than his picture anyway) but I know from listening to the commentary on his first film "Boo" where he mentions he's from here.

Sometimes if I can't remember what the episode was about I watched the night before it portends it's time to dump the show.

You're from Antioch?

No, Martinez (as shown in Location). Some of the folks around here said the family moved to Antioch but in the "Boo" commentary he says Martinez was where he grew up.

I talked to a guy today that knows some of the crew working on this show in Wilmington, NC. According to him, the show is ending this season. I know the NC legislature is probably not going to renew the 25% tax credit that has resulted in so many films and TV shows being made here in recent years, but don't know if that's a factor in the demise of this show. Doubtful, since they could always move production to another state that is offering up the goodies. Film productions follow the dollars and the state with the biggest subsidies wins.

It's just a rumor and I heard it second-hand, so take it for what it's worth. If it's true, you heard it first here! Buh-bye Domies!

I think the UTD showrunner should study the two Sharknado productions to see how these type of stories should be done. They are already halfway there.

No more trying to spot Iron Man at the beach.

On the upside it might reduce the number of horrible Nicholas Sparks' movies being made.

I wonder if Sam knew about this place all along and had planned to jump into the hole from the beginning. Why else would he stop Barbie from falling off into the pit? Maybe Sam didn't want Barbie to find out the secret of the bottomless pit?
They're hooking up with Lorien (or the wormhole aliens) depending on who you think came up with the idea first.

But isn't the car alot more expensive? it used to be over five years to even break even with a comparable gasoline only car. Not sure if that is still the case though.

Well the Volt is $34,170 less the $7'500 Fed Tax Credit = $26,670 for a car with 40-50mi all electric range and a 350+mi gasoline range (at 43mpg to boot!)...
Several states have $3,500 to $5,000 tax rebates for the Volt- so at $21,670 for a 2015 hybrid it's an absolute steal!

Don't forget the cost of the electricity to recharge the battery when figuring the payback time.

Literally pennies. Even less if you're like my buddy who plugs in to a standard grounded outlet wherever he can find one. He scarfs juice from my front porch GFI outlet every time he comes over. He even brings his own extension cord.

No incentives in Virginia. So it is still around a five year time period to break even based on the car I have now that cost $15K and $2k a year in gas. And without factoring in the electricity cost.

Here in Virginia if I were going to get something like that it would need to be an all electric car. At least with that I could ride in the HOV3 lanes. The zero emission vehicles and motorcycles are allowed to ride in those lanes with less than three people. Unless you are grandfathered in with a Hybrid from 2006(or is it 2008?) or earlier.

The Volt takes about 12.8kWh to fully charge from empty.
Average electric rate in the US is about $0.12/kWh.
12.8 * .12 = $1.54 for a full charge- which gives you close to 50mi all electric range.

The PIP (Plug-in Prius) takes about 3kWh to fully charge from empty.
Average electric rate in the US is about $0.12/kWh.
3 * .12 = $0.36 for a full charge- which gives you close to 11mi all electric range.

Julia should have bought a Volt!

Stop, guys! You're playing right into their hands! By now talking about electric cars, you're validating the advertisers' decision to put a Prius into the show and then refer to it by name on a regular basis.

Somewhere, an advertising executive just felt a shiver go down his spine as he strokes his white cat. "I can feel it working!" he says.

I know it's Politically Incorrect, but until they make a full size Crew Cab truck that's equivalent to a gas model in all ways, "I'll give you my truck when you pry my cold dead hands off the steering wheel .. "

I don't know why they're not making gas/electric hybrid trucks yet, but when they do, I'm getting one. I've got a late model Honda Ridgeline that only gets 17 mpg with a 6 cylinder engine and a smaller, lighter frame than a typical truck. I have no idea why. But I'm fed up with paying so dang much for fuel, that much I know.

You'll get no dispute from me on the mileage .. Bertha never passed a gas station she did not like .. but, you don't buy a truck for the mileage .. you buy it so your friends and neighbors can call you and try and borrow it ..

The Tesla S looks too much like any other high-end sedan. If you want hot looks in an electric car, you need the Fisker Karma:

Doesn't use a gas engine like the Prius & Volt, rather a gas "generator" that powers the car and charges up the battery when off EV mode. Various engineering problems led to its demise, but I heard the Chinese might be bringing it back. Hopefully, they'll hire some Toyota engineers, use Prius tech, and keep the styling.

I've been thinking for several years that is really the way to go with electric, though I would use diesel instead of gas so it could take advantage of bio-fuels when available. It's been working for decades for trains.

Combine it with solar paint and you get a car that can charge itself for free in the lot while you're at work.

As far as the looks of the Fiskar Karma, it looks the the love child of a Dodge Viper and an Audi A7.

I put the Fisker in with the Volt. Too limited a range. Plus, Bieber ruined it for me.

If I want sporty, I'll move from the Tesla Model S to the Lotus version.
