Anyone have plans to watch this tonite on the Discovery Channel? The network will stretch the walk into a 2 hour and 40 minute show with a 10 second delay..

LOL, actually a 2:20 show for a 30 minute walk. Typical and I won't be watching. Good luck to him though, hope he makes it. Now I know why the Mythbusters last week featured him and a canyon.

My exact feelings Slowbiscuit.. Just like the networks stretch a 2 1/2 minute horse race (Preakness, Derby, Belmont) into a 2 hour coverage show.biggrin.gif

Discovery missed the boat by not partnering with Felix Baumgartner and Stratos, so this was obviously them trying to create a news worthy event of equal weight. Unfortunately watching someone walk slowly for thirty minutes isn't that exciting and the massive amounts of padding around the event doesn't have the same level of interest when it involves a guy on a wire and not a high-tech suit and capsule.

OTOH, I don't even know who Felix Baumgartner and Stratos is... is he like one of those idiots that jump over something or other while safely strapped into some vehicle on New Year's Eve? But I'm going to remember last nights performance for a very long time. Just the man, his pole, a 1400ft wire, and a 1500ft drop. Watching the idiots on New Years Eve I always feel that they're going to be just fine in the end. Last night I felt like every step could very well be his last. Balls of Steel...

Don't ever make the MISTAKE of buying a Samsung TV..
They consider THIS
normal on a two month old set..

Google is your friend.

Unlike this Grand Canyon stunt, however skilled and ballsy, FB advanced aerospace jumping from a record height at near supersonic speeds. Lots of science. Major cojones.

13 million viewers!! wow..eek.gif One president of a Navaho community said this about the walk:

"He's not walking across the Grand Canyon. He's walking across the Little Colorado River Gorge on the Navajo Nation. It's misleading and false advertising."

You must have been under a rock that month, because it was covered worldwide on nearly every news outlet you could find. He was front page news everywhere and on multiple talk shows.

Whilst walking across a wire is pretty gutsy, it's basically a circus act. It doesn't advance anything and the physical stresses are not even remotely close.

I remember it being in the news but there's no way I would have remembered his name. I didn't watch it though and I seldom watch TV news broadcasts.

Wallenda broke the Guinness World Record for saying Jesus 2,791,382 times, in 23 minutes. wink.gif
Robert Clark likes this.

A squirrel has been eating my tomatoes, so I took my AK-47 and shot him with an armor-piercing bullet. Unfortunately, it also went through my neighbor's car and his neighbors SUV before being stopped by a propane truck filling his neighbors tank. Half of the neighborhood is now gone, but so is that damn squirrel.

Eh, I'll call it "close enough". Average American/Earthling doesn't know where the Little Colorado Rover Gorge is, but they know the Grand Canyon. Plus, I'll call a gorge 1/4-mile across and deep a "grand canyon".
