Just watched the first episode and it seems like it wants to be "Survivor" on steroids. There are no rules and other than the cabin w/ some equipment, they're on their own. If you can believe what they showed, one camera man got mauled by an unseen thing and one of the contestants got killed. eek.gif They offered those remaining $5,000 if they wanted to bail. The final prize for those remaining at the end of the Siberian winter get $500,000 to split.

Depending on next week's episode will decide for me whether to continue.

FWIW, I bailed on "Hero" halfway thru the first episode. Since there's no thread here, I'm guessing that not many stuck w/ it.

In space, no one can hear you scream . . .

There is one unspoken rule: follow the script.

It seems to be both a parody of Survivor and the "Survivor gone horribly wrong" season we all dream of. We will see whether it remains (becomes?) amusing. It's not great but it's summer.

I just watched this the other day and was surprise there was no thread, thanks 73shark smile.gif
Unfortunately I probably won't be around much as this was definitely a one and done for me, it was probably the worst show I've watched this season. I kind of wonder what NBC is thinking but I guess they don't have anything else to fill up their schedule....... wink.gif
I'm not against all reality shows but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.
Oh BTW other than being totally scripted, did everyone realize this show wasn't even filmed in Russia? It was filmed somewhere in Canada, guess Siberia would have been too expensive tongue.gif

This isn't a reality show. It's either a parody or a drama based on a reality show... depending on your point of view. smile.gif

Some people really believe this was a reality show... it does follow most survivor type shows except the no rules rule...

But why blur the dead guy? we can't see how badly he was mauled by the "thing" out there

I'm thinking that it was all a show to see the reaction of the "survivors".

This show really is terrible, saw the 1st & I'm done.
It might "perhaps" have been more interesting, if at least ONE of the actors wasn't an actor, but a regular " Joe Schmo " with a REAL name & profession, that thought he was actually on a real reality show ...
.. The fact that everyone is simply an actor playing a role, & "in on it" leaves it a bore fest as fiction ...
Perhaps It was orginally going to be a "Joe Schmo Show", but they were afraid of copyrights ...?
What's next, an acted out " Wheel of Fortune" type game show parody, where they aren't really the named contestants, They already are told what/when to answer, & don't really win the Money and vacations, but they assume we will watch it anyway? ... smile.gifbiggrin.gif

I understand, but never really liked most of the "phoney documentary" style movies, like the " I found the 2hr video camera/tape used by the guy eaten by the Monster in the subway, you are about to be shown the unedited playback" ... boring , & this show is a bad version of those!

You're forgetting that "Siberia" is a SCRIPTED DRAMA about a fictitious reality show, not a reality show.

Probably the most ridiculous drama pilot I've ever seen air on a broadcast network.

But I watched the whole thing.

Everywhere? NBC's own site has the slogan "What happens when a reality show goes terribly wrong..." Siberia

http://www.nbc.com/siberia/

Then there's Enterntainment Weekly

http://popwatch.ew.com/2013/07/01/siberia-whodunnit-reality-tv/

Just "Google" for Siberia.

I only caught the preview for next weeks show while waiting on my local news and just by watching thaqt it was fairly obvious it wasn't a reality show but a scripted show.

The repeat of the pilot was pre-empted by baseball so I'll have to check it out OnDemand but the promos made it looks like "The Chernobyl Diaries" inspired it.

They have clearly said that this is a drama show with real actors and the show is about people on a fake reality competition that face things in the unknown.

So I watched the pilot and indeed it looks inspired by "The Chernobyl Diaries" with the nuclear meltdown replaced by the asteroid crash in Siberia in 1908. I've never been a fan of "Survivor" and it's "me toos" but this had a good arc which makes the artistic license of a "reality show" tolerable.

I will admit this format gives me a headache if I try to decide what I really think of it. In one moment it's a parody of reality shows and without any reality it's beyond stupid. In the next instant I'll think it's as valid as any other drama (being totally scripted) and should be judged accordingly. I think my final decision will be it has none of the reality investment (becoming attached to the contestants) and the drama itself is beyond silly leaving zero investment in the characters and will be deleted from my DVR. If the characters weren't so stereotypical it might have had a chance.

But it's realistic. My Dad's friend, lived in the woods, worked construction and built himself a cabin. Went camping with him and cut his knee-cap off with an axe.... I like the idea of making fun of reality shows and I want to find out what's in the woods and who wins the fake money.

Yeah but the knee cap is far away from your hands, that you use to wield the axe, It's hard to do with one hand with enough speed and force to chop off a finger.

(if it was one of those smaller hand axes perhaps or maybe chop off a toe)

Ha. I agree with the first half of that statement. Caught last night's episode and I didn't understand it. Seemed like your typical reality show.

There was some "horror gore" with an animal being chopped up and headless but I expected more scariness. I thought some serial killer was stalking the reality show people tongue.gif

I'm in a bad mood tonight, this posting is sort of negative as the result. Bleh frown.gif

Dumb girls, the tiger won't attack a full camp of people, they surely stalk a stray victim and may attack him/her, but not the camp with many people around, and this is WHERE THE GUN comes in handy, and they also have an axe and now a bow.

Well the unknown beast is even capable of mauling a tiger...

Is anyone really that suprised that this is a fake reality show with a bunch of bad acting? Some good eye candy though, especially the Aussie girl (a well known actress in Australia apparently) .
Have these people never heard of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)? At least thats what it looked like to me, though its not filmed in Siberia its filmed in Canada.

I would have thought that at least some adults in that group would have heard of the "northern lights" (Aurora Borealis) especially the programmer. I used to watch them as a kid in the late summer in Washington state.

Not me. I saw the promos, ads, articles, reviews, show website etc. before watching and therefore new it was not a 'reality show'. I actually wouldn't be watching if it was.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't think it was the Auroras. The lights in the show were below the clouds.
