Sharknado!

Tornadoes, with sharks inside!

This thread is to revel in the glorious awfulness of the latest SyFy disaster flick (hey, that works on multiple levels).

lol biggrin.gif

A lot of forums have this same thread! Must be a great show or it's hilarious. I'll check it this weekend.

You could always add "on Syfy" to your thread title btw wink.gif
A little confusing for people to know what channel it's on. Although, granted the name I'm sure people can figure it out tongue.gif

The producers used CGI rain for many storm scenes, but did not bother to ensure that the actors in those scenes had wet hair and wet clothing. The result was perfectly-dry people in the midst of deluge.

At one point, our heroes are in a home in Beverly Hills, which suddenly becomes flooded with water...and of course with SHARKS! After the sharks munch on someone, another observes the bloody water in the foyer and exclaims, "It looks like it's that time of the month!"

When our heroes rush out of the shark-infested, flooded house, there's basically no water standing outside the house. But the amount of water inside the house is apparently so significant that... wait for it... the house explodes from the pressure of that water!

Much, much more in which to delight, courtesy of Sharknado. What were your favorite moments? (Don't pretend you were oblivious to the movie-of-the-millennium.)

Really just dropped my jaw when Dad rescued his son's girlfriend. Corn at it's most plentiful. So over the top it was enjoyable.

You’re right; I couldn’t miss the promos. And I knew immediately the targeted audience.

I was so proud of the crew that put this movie out there for the surprising helicopter-fall-shark-munch, but what a letdown when the victim pulled a Jonah (aided by a chainsaw, for bonus points, but still...).

Obviously, open spoilers are welcome in this thread for this already-aired masterwork.

Hah, this was cheese covered corn gold. I'm starting to like this channel more as it accepts itself.

The girl skeet shooting the shark that flew up the drain pipe sold me wink.gif

Couple weeks ago they showed "Dinocroc vs Supergator". It had David Carradine so you know its a classy movie. wink.gif

These flicks are the modern equivalent of Roger Corman schlock movies. So bad they're good, in a MST3 kinda' way. But I thought Syfy aired them on Saturdays...?

Our Secretary of Health and Human Services took to Twitter to joke that Sharknado injuries will be covered by "Obamacare" (her term for ACA). This movie is a phenomenon of epic importance.

archiguy, I also thought of Corman. Alas, he would be ashamed of this one due to sloppy production. He has standards.

Nova is cute. Not as babelicious as the Nova from Planet of the Apes (original), but cute.

Anybody have details for the next airing? Can't read this thread too much considering I've not seen it. I've checked my guide through Tuesday and nothing can be found. Odd.
Thanks

Edit:
Wow! NBC Nightly News is even doing a segment on it. This thing is big! Twitter, forums, media, etc.

That's what I'm saying. Syfy usually shows these things on Saturday nights. Wasn't expecting one on a Wednesday; I missed it too. Bummer....

I went through their schedule and didnt see it playing again this month. I would've thought they were going to milk it.

Seems legit.

If by legit, you mean real, then yes, it would seem so. If you mean legal, then you'd be incorrect. It appears to be an aggregator of Scene releases.

Syfy is putting out word that they are strongly considering a sequel based almost entirely off of last night’s social media reaction of 5,000 tweets per minute and 387,000 social media reactions.

While they decide, in case you missed it, Syfy will present a special encore presentation of Sharknado on Thursday, July 18, at 7PM (ET/PT)

The DVD and Blu-ray are set for a September 3 release date. This movie was so hilariously bad that it might even be worth adding to the collection. biggrin.gif Considering how bad the visual effects are in a movie with such a low budget, I'm not sure you'd get much benefit from the Blu-ray, though. Maybe it should cost less than the DVD. tongue.gif

The "filmmakers" should lobby for no blu-ray, and only a DVD rendered from a fourth-generation VHS copy-of-a-copy.

I don't think this one has rewatch value; in fact, I watched it in mostly double-time on my CinemaPC, just to be conversant on this social phenomenon. The value of "Sharknado" is being able to talk about its awfulness, and "Cliffs Notes" viewing was sufficient for such cultural literacy on the topic.

Doug

That was the Dad's wannabe girlfriend. She worked for him at the bar. His son only just met her. Yes I could not stop laughing. The entire movie was extremely funny but that last scene had me rolling on the floor.

Not only was it incredibly lucky that he happened to encounter the very same shark that swallowed Nova (not to mention that the shark somehow swallowed her whole and unharmed), but I'd really like to know how he avoided chopping her to bits when the shark swallowed him with his chainsaw running. biggrin.gif

Maybe they stayed home and saw Atlantic Rim instead? Which is another movie by the same company that did Sharknado. They always make those movies with a similar name to one that is being released theatrically.
