I doubt there will be a weekly thread made, so might as well just make one for the season.

This will include games on CBS, FOX, ESPN, NBC, NFL Network, and local simulcasts.

Please include provider and station ID where applicable.

Watching TB/NYJ on WNYW in NY OTA and also NE/BUF on WCBS OTA, both look good.

For Golf and Tennis CBS Sports is formatting graphics for 16:9.
Were they doing that for any of the NFL games?
Odd they are formatting for 16:9 yet the WCBS SD channel2 on FiOS is still 4:3 full screen.

Also NBC does letterboxed SD for soccer yet they won't do it for NFL. SNF still formatting for 4:3.

At my parents' house, they have DirecTV but only SD and WCBS is formatted as sqush-o-vision, 16x9 in a 4x3 frame.

Texans vs. Chargers is going to start on ESPN2.

Edit: Kickoff has been delayed to 10:25 EDT/7:25 PDT. If Eagles-Redskins goes past then (which it looks like it will), Texans-Chargers will start on ESPN2.

Watching on AT&T u-verse in San Diego, picture quality for PHI/WSH looked great as well as the HOU/SD game on ESPN & our local OTA simulcast station, KUSI (which has no subchannels & and broadcasts in 720p HD). I give ESPN the edge on surround sound audio over KUSI on my DD 5.1 system.

And the FOUL!

I think overall the ESPN games look the best of any this week.  Watching on E* and OTA in Minneapolis.

Watching Monday night football on ESPN on charter in 93422. By FAR this looks and sounds the best of all of the football games this week.

The games on CBS and NBC looked amazing in 1080i this week OTA. I was really impressed with the picture quality.

Unless your provider has issues I think it is safe to say that all of the NFL games look great these days. Not so long ago there were lengthly threads each week full of members complaining about or commenting on the PQ of the games. It is difficult to even find a discussion now.

Perhaps I misremembered.

I guess I disagree.  Maybe I'm a PQ snob but it is not often I watch an NFL game and say WOW, that is how HD should look.  This is with OTA, Dish and Cable as well as viewing DirecTV at neighbors often.

I think people have just given up on complaining because they know the answer is cramming more channels down limited bandwidth.  HDTV is going the way of mp3, people just accept the lower quality because it is getting to be the norm as most people don't give a rip.

I thought the Phl / Wash game on ESPN was "OK". Kind of dark. Checked Cox and Direc, Direc looked better. .Hou/ SD game looked much brighter on both Cox and Direc...Again Direc looked better on ESPN.
Prime, I mostly agree with your assessment, remember when we would turn on HD and it would POP off the screen. Closest I see now is O/O CBS station broadcasting with no Subs, OTA. To me even that isn't quite as sharp as before. Has, or is, CBS moving to the Mpeg 4 format, like NBC did???

Interesting, and I guess why assessing the quality is so hard.  We all have our preferences.  I liked the darker, bolder picture of PHI/WAS and thought HOU/SD had the contrast too high.

I didn't watch too much of Texans/Chargers. I saw at one point they (the Chargers) were leading 28-7 and figured they would find a way to lose.

They're the Chargers. Of course, they did. rolleyes.gif

The highlights of the Cards-Rams game looked really bad, drab, washed out.

Like the stadium lighting doesn't allow the colors to appear saturated?

The green of the field looked dull, even soft.

This is through Comcast and highlights on ESPN and NFL Network.

wow niner/packer game looked terrible sunday on fox, via dish bay area local.

anyone else notice this. worse than anything i saw on cbs/nbc or espn.

this should have had fox's top technical crew.

could be a long season for nfc fans when espn totally outshines fox

Agree about the niner/packer game. I can't recall a game looking worse since the days of watching SD feeds on a HDTV.

I was watching the game on WNYW OTA in NY, and did not notice anything unusual to me, it looked pretty good to me.

Watching NYJ/NE on WCBS-DT NY OTA. Looks better than the NFLNet feed on Cablevision, which is lagging about 5 sec behind the WCBS feed.

However audio wise , WCBS is sending audio to only the L and R front surrounds, nothing in the center or rear speakers and sub lacking, even though 5.1 is lit up on the receiver, whereas NFLNet is sending audio properly to all speakers and sounds better.

SD/PHI on WCBS OTA NY looks great in the sun.
WAS/GB on WNYW OTA looks a bit washed out, but otherwise ok.

I'm going to get hosed by KBAK, looks like were one of the few stations not carrying the Manning Bowl.

The 50 yard cam and the right 20 yard cam are the usual high frequency boosted mosquito moose mess from FOX, but the left 20 yard can has all that boost and noise removed. Not sure I've seen such a difference in the different cams before.

So all my complaints about what FOX sends out looks to be more about the camera and setup than anything.

CLE @ BAL on CBS doesn't look as sharp as the MIA @ CLE game last week. Compression artifacts visible on the wide distance shots.

Watching WOIO Cleveland OTA (1 subchannel).

I know CBS and FOX do not like to switch out of games though at WSH 0 GB 30 in the 3rd it would be nice if FOX had another game to switch to for those outside of the WSH and GB markets.

WNYW-DT NYC switched to DAL @ KC.
The main field cam is very soft and the swimming grass effect is noticeable.
All video is very soft for this game.

Much better PQ on SD @ PHI on WCBS-DT.
