Hmmm, guess either no one watched this or they considered it so bad it wasn't worth starting a thread for it.

Either way, I thought is was okay and like all new shows I'll give it two episodes before I fully make a decision on whether or not I stick with it. I do have to say though the twist at the end I didn't see coming. Definitely a different take on the story of the character.

I tried to play the pilot with Hulu+ and kept getting an error. If it was a system wide bug then it may be viewable tonight. Otherwise I'll contact their support (as instructed in the error message).

I rather enjoyed the show. Definitely a different "take" on the standard story-line. But, I tip my hat to the scenic designers, set-dressers and shooting locations crews. I find the settings for this show to be extremely attractive and lush. The costumes for the characters are very well done. The video and lighting people are doing an exceptional job on this, IMO. Just my $.02.

it doesn't hurt that the historic parts of Budapest, where they filmed the show, are quite beautiful.

The post production for the show was done in London, but the overwhelming majority of the filming was in Budapest. There were only a few second unit shoots in London. A lot of what might have looked like London was visual effects.

I caught the pilot, but I'm not impressed with the lead (Meyers?). He seems miscast somehow. But the love scene in the opera-house was something, and the rooftop fight was nice, though short.

Not terrible, but not great; don't think I have the patience for this one, unless the lead's acting drastically improves.

In NO way does he strike me as "Dracula."

I like the premise: Dracula vs the Dragon Society. Unfortunately the Dragon Society may order it canceled even if it were to get good ratings.

+1 And I thought the musical score further enhanced the visual effects. Very well done. Story line - meh. But I'll probably stick with it for a few episodes.

I don't think NBC would let Mads Mikkelsen play the lead in two of their ongoing series. Dude's got to sleep sometime. wink.gif

Besides, I love him in 'Hannibal', a brainy, visually arresting series which has grown to be one of my favorite shows in years. He'd be slumming in 'Dracula'.

But gourmet cannibals do. You've got to be well rested to whip up those culinary masterpieces Hannibal creates in his kitchen. The show is part food-porn, probably one of the reasons I like it so much. tongue.gif

LOL! The last time I remember anything resembling food-porn must've been in Rosemary's Baby. And that's quite an alarming thing for a child to see!

Thought the show was immensely boring. I think the show exists to put tons of costumers and set designers to work. The lead actor is miscast and I hope he wipes out snooty England. Make it look like one of those ships where all the people are gone.

Jerry. Just remember. Its not a lie . . . if you believe it. GC

I guess I deviate from the norm, but I loved it. Having Katie McGrath as a regular was a nice surprise, and the only gripe I can offer is that the action sequences were a bit too silly for my taste, what with Matrix-esque slow motion feeling out of place in a period drama. I'm eager to see what comes next, though.

Admittedly, King Henry VIII didn't jump out at me as Count Dracula however based on the vibe of the show I think he is well cast. Now whether you enjoy that vibe might be another matter... I'm guessing it's not a AVS vibe.

I will give it one more shot. I didn't want another period piece - I was hoping for something modern-day.

I'm also not sold on the show after one ep, and agree that the lead was probably miscast. Will give it another go but given its limited run anyway (unless it's a ratings hit) I might bail early if it doesn't improve. Just doesn't grab me at all even though the period scenery looks great.

OK, I got it now....

This show is The Anti-Dracula....think about it.
Everything is the flipside of the traditional Dracula we grew up on.

Dracula is tall, imposing, and full of foreign trend.
THIS DRACULA is short, non-threatening, and American.

Dracula is calculating, cautious, and patient.
THIS DRACULA is spontaneous, reckless, and impatient.

Renfield is little, dumb, and pathetic.
THIS RENFIELD is big, smart, and imposing.

Van Helsing is a hunter, hater, and savior.
THIS VAN HELSING is a conspirator, manipulator, and vengeance obsessed.

I didn't realize, until this 2nd episode, what the showrunners are trying to do.
Now that I know, I am REALLY into this new series.smile.gifsmile.gif

It's a one and done for our family, didn't bother with the second episode as the other family members didn't want anything to do with it. I might have given it a second chance but it wasn't in the cards smile.gif
Now maybe if it had started in the summer when nothing else was on........
