So that one cig is the midpoint. If you play the last episode in reverse and start the first episode on the lion roar you will see all the cigs getting lit and extinguished at the same time. Let's keep the doppler shifting color tone out of this for the sake of a simple argument.

It's clearly THE visual thesis on the destruction of Native Americans that Kubrick failed at with The Shining.

A good read, no spoilers(beyond the last episode anyway) but a detailed look at who might be the "Yellow King", several details I missed. Before the final episode I'm going to re-watch the first 7, should be a good ride.

From Vulture,
True Detective: Who Is the Yellow King? Here Are Some Theories

Also, MM will be on 'Inside the Actor's Studio' Thursday, 8pm on Bravo.

Good stuff I'm leaning to what he said about Lost level egg hunts for just eight shows but it's still fun.

I noticed that every time he takes a big drag on the cigarette he never exales any smoke afterwards.

In space, no one can hear you scream . . .

That's the way real men smoke. Their manly lungs absorb every molecule of carcinogenic vapor, leaving nothing to exhale but the thin gruel of spent, used-up air that lesser men breathe.

Thanks both for the very the link to the intriguing piece speculating about who may be the Yellow King, and for the heads up about Matthew McConaughey's appearance on The Actors Studio tomorrow night. Had it not been for you, I would have missed MM's gig with weird old James Lipton. smile.gif

Oh gawd, the canonization of MM has gone full speed.

Maybe the writing with the great lines is a big part of it?

Weird. I was talking about the Floyd XM channel and that's the only reason Division Bell was on my mind, it is oddly creepy how the thread went here but it is also true to period. I'll report back with more after I get done helping these biker guys I used to know do a thing.

Arch's statement really did seem like something Cohle would say -- a combination of macho and erudite. Cohle appears to me to be an eloquent thug in a class with Deadwood's Al Swearengen.

We can only hope that the resolution of the Yellow King will not be the massive downer that finding Red John was.

I think it was noted in a review about the show, but Hart is wearing that shirt in a scene where things go radically off the rails for the two detectives, a bit of foreshadowing of Hart's execution of Ledoux. Raiding the drug house they could probably have talked their way out of any serious trouble there, but murder, that was unquestionably a dividing line.

I don't believe we've seen the end of Shea Whigham (Joel). I have a hunch he's connected in all of this. Also the line about Burt (the eunuch) when Chole said "He did a duece in Angola for dick wagging) was quite colorful.

These are just my opinions.

I couldn't disagree more with that. Every time I see one of his performances I am even more impressed. His work here keeps my eyes glued to the screen.

Sure, the dialog is rich, but his delivery is beyond perfect to me.

What do you find lacking?

I still haven't heard anything better than

"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age"

Though that comment to WH about the d*** swagger and spotting crazy p***y was pretty good.
