Nope, not at all. Most intellectuals I know are definitely alcoholics....in fact, I hung out with two of them on the 4th and they were beyond drunk.

Guys, all I'm trying to say is that it seemed out of place. When I heard them agree that they both felt apoplectic, it struck me as a strange way for them to communicate with one another. You don't have to be a genius to know how to use the appropriately, but I'll be damned if I get shot in the chest a couple times that I'm going to talk about how friggin apoplectic I am about it........You know, the more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is.

True, but I didn't get that impression watching it play out on-screen.
The characters appeared to understand the definition of the word just fine.
Of course, it's just my interpretation of the scene.

Gangsters would use words along the lines of "f*cking pi$$ed," absolutely not "apoplectic."
This was completely pretentious Hollywood writer nonsense.

Is there any character on the show besides Bezzerides who doesn't have erectile dysfunction?

I'd guess that VV and CF are getting paid substantially more than the other actors, and their contracts require they get more airtime than anyone else. I can think of no other explanation for some of their scenes. Let's have Vince look pensively off into space. Now it's time for Colin to brood some more with those eyebrows.

I like the slow build up of this show, nice amount of creepy as well. I will admit I struggled through the first episode, but by the end of the 3rd I became fully invested. I found Vaughn seemed to improve his performance with each episode and it was cool to see Remo Williams is retired and smoking chronic. Hopefully the trend continues and each episode gets a bit better.

Yeah, it was...at times.

DW was one of those few instances I gave showrunners a break due to the excellence in other areas.
Having uneducated, sh!tlickers caked in mud and cow poop from the Ol' West sound like Shakespearian characters was a little jarring.

Well CF and VV are the main characters of the show (much like MM and WH were last season). That is a pretty good reason they get more screen time not sure it's a "contract" thing as the creator really had his pick of folks and could get almost anything he wanted I would think.

^ I was expecting & hoping Rachel McAdams would have a lead role or THE lead role, but so far she has been little more than window dressing. I will probably continue to watch the season to see what happens to her character, and as a break from watching Deadwood, which I've only just started but enjoy far more.

I watched Deadwood when it was new and liked it. The main actor went on to another show that I liked more. I think as the story moves along VV and CF will be the up front parts with McAdams having a growing presents. I have watched them twice and find I like the show a lot more.

I have to admit that at this point, my pre-show skepticism on Vince has pretty much been quashed .. he seems to be doing a great job with the character, even to the point of looking more and more haggard ..

Rachel McAdams/Ani Bezzerides, IMO, steals every scene she's in .. "Any man that lays hands on me is gonna bleed out in under a minute .." .. She may not get quite the screen time, but what she does get, she uses to maximum effect .. and the backstory on her Dad and what not is a great touch .. this is not the McAdams of "Mean Girls" and "Wedding Crashers" ..

The camera work, although now urban as opposed to Season One rural, evokes the same general feel of a slimy, underworld ..

The attempt to give Vince a speech in episode 2 about papier-mâché worlds and the subtle joys of rats was grasping at some of Rusts dialog from Season One, I thought, and was really a little ridiculous.

Still not hitting me as hard as Season One, but we've got a ways to go yet .. Nic Pizzolatto has avoided making Season 2 boring so far and I'm generally liking what I see ..

I wanted to give it at least 3 episodes before posting anything, since I was so skeptical that Pizzolatto could pull another rabbit out of his hat .. the slow unfolding of the back and front story on the main characters also reminds me of Season One, but in a different way .. Pizzolatto seems to specialize in flawed people, but then, that's life .. we're all flawed in one way or another ..

Unless things crash and burn at some point, I think we're in for a pretty solid ride ..
