I dont hear Ferrari whining. In fact thats what theyre telling Alonso to quit doing. Not so sure about this entitlement thing either but you guys go ahead and get it out of your system.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Although I have managed never to drink the Scuderia's Kool-Aid, I appreciate what the organization has done for motor racing. In fact, the Grand Old Man, Enzo Ferrari, was a racing icon for the ages. (Hope this doesn't mean that after all these years, I am now going to start drinking that Kool-Aid, after all.) smile.gif

+1
My dream car is and has been a Ferrari.

I am a big fan of the Prancing Horse, but I am not blind to their problems.
If Luca really wanted to start a new chapter of success for the Scuderia, he would dump Domencalli and maybe a few others.

It's not whining as much as treating the brand like a god. Everybody's got to be so careful about what they say.

"but I am sure he is well aware what Ferrari represents and because of that, he will be even keener to give it his best shot."

Stuff like what "Ferrari represents" is getting a little stale at this point. It's like an aging beauty queen. I used to get mad at Alonso complaining too, but at this point I think the team would be better served if Luca just said "Yep, the car hasn't been much good and were watching the window close on a guy who could probably win a couple of these WDC things and because of that I need to quit pontificating and get to work " Take a page from Roger Penske, his drivers don't bitch about his team because they know that even if the car sucks, he's doing everything he can.

Sorry for the rant, I've just had enough of the Ferrari "reverence". It's just valves, chains, tires and gas, not an entity, tune it up and drive the piss out of it see you next week.

Give credit where credit is due. They are the only team that does engine and chassis. Not a Ferrari fan myself but I realize their importance to F1.Without Ferrari,F1 would probably cease to exist.

Sort of. Mercedes is a much bigger company than Ferrari. The Mercedes F1 team probably have nothing to do with any other part of Mercedes. Certainly much less than Ferrari.

Ownership wise, the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team is under the MB corporate umbrella.

Buying something and putting your name on it isnt the same as running it. AMG used to be a separate company.
Any way you look at it Mercedes is new to Formula One. For those who might point out that they used to race Grands Prix back in the 30s, that was before F1 was created.
Modern F1 began in 1950 and only one team currently racing has been a part of it every race of every season since the very beginning.

Pirelli receive confirmation from one of their testers that the new 2014 tires are equivalent to the 2013 Silverstone spec tires. Not sure if that is what they were going for, though. :-)

More from Irvine:

Eddie Irvine says Sebastian Vettel is "boring" for staying at Red Bull and insists he should not be compared to Michael Schumacher.

Former racing driver Irvine, who was Schumacher's partner at Ferrari between 1996 and 1999, has praised his old team-mate for leaving Benetton to 'rebuild' Ferrari.

This, he says, places the seven-time world champion in a class above quadruple champion Vettel, who he has labelled "boring" for staying at Red Bull where he has had "the best car".

"Vettel's record is amazing, though he has kept the best car pretty much every year which Michael didn't have," Irvine said.

"The one thing about Michael was when he won his first two championships he felt 'This is boring, I'm going to go to Ferrari and re-build Ferrari' and that was very admirable. He struggled there for four years before he won another championship.

"Vettel just staying at Red Bull winning trophies is boring. I don't see what he's trying to prove. Okay, he's going to collect a lot of championships, but you know what, who cares?"

IIRC, Qualifying back in his day was done differently.

FWIW, I think Qualifying, if not THE best, is one of the best parts of the show today.

The old qualifying was still exciting, it was harder to keep track of everything going on. The drivers had a hell of a time getting a clean lap because of all the people putzing around. But the qualifying now is awesome. I cant see what ol' Eddie could complain about. Dude's got enough cash he should be in a better mood.

I'm fine with the current qualifying, but pole position should maybe be worth one championship point.

I would definitely bring back refuelling. Pit stops will happen naturally when you let people start with a light fuel load.

And with refuelling you have no need for the stupid two tyre compound rule. Have one compound, and make it last so the drivers can go flat out till they stop for fuel (just like the good old days).

Fastest lap could be worth one point as well. That might keep things interesting at the end of the race.

Refueling was eliminated for valid safety reasons. Everything from pit fire to cars dragging the fueling line down pit road has happened.eek.gif

I too liked the old quaifying,I could never understand why all the top teams would wait till the last minute to try and set fast lap and then bitch about not getting a clean lap. And there was the chance to see a Minardi or an Arrows on pole, though briefly. The current format is more exciting though.
