This is a sad truth with F1.
Costs have become so high, teams can't afford to pay bills in a timely matter.

While referring to the Kimi "not being paid" situation last year, Toto Wolff commented how he couldn't understand why ANY team would be so lame as to not have a budget they could stick to.
I have to agree...it doesn't help the sport.

Qualifying starts in 5 minutes, cant wait!!!

Did you guys see the interview with Alonso where they asked him about Kimi and the rivalry between them, and Fernando said all the right politically correct things the whole interview, then right at the end he just looked into the camera and said that of course he is always the number 1 driver on any team he is on. I loved it.

As to the new Lambo, really nice car, but to me, its not quite as angular and aggressive looking as i would like. Aventador is more aggressive, Countach is still the classic, but i do like this one a lot.

Well, looks like another crap weekend for my boys.

I was pleased to see Kimi doing much better, but it doesn't matter when they are 6th and 7th. Behind Lotus, really?

Congrats to Lewis. Another outstanding drive. Nico better get used to the view from second. However, Lewis is quickly turning into the new "Vettel". I figured he would beat Nico, but if Nico can't even challenge him, this will be quite boring as well.

I had really hoped RB (mainly DR) could actually challenge Merc this weekend, just to make it interesting, but Merc is still a second clear. Unreal! As a fan of HP, performance and innovation, I am extremely impressed with Merc. As a fan of F1 and great racing? Not so much. Let's hope and pray that some other teams can take a MASSIVE step forward next year and at least make it competitive.

I was curious to see how Vettel would do with his new chassis. He was actually quicker than DR initially, but Q3 is when everyone pulls out the stops, and he broke the car......again. Looks like he is finally getting some of Webber's luck! As much enjoyment as I get from him having issues, I would enjoy it more if his car was fine and DR continues to out drive him.

Sebastian Vettel 'getting bored' with run of unreliability on his Red Bull RB10

Oh, you mean like the way all of the F1 fans have been bored the last few seasons when your car was massively superior to the rest of the field and your "race" was a leisurely Sunday drive for you every race weekend? That bored? tongue.gif

Famous last words! However, it won't surprise me if Alonso gets Kimi on the start and holds him there. I just hope they don't lose too much time fighting each other and they pass the cars in front.

Alonso jokes that Raikkonen struggle is no surprise

Fernando Alonso could not resist a mischievous joke on Thursday when asked about teammate Kimi Raikkonen's struggles so far in 2014.

Finn Raikkonen has struggled notably at Ferrari since returning to his 2007 title-winning team, but for the moment the high-pressure Maranello marque is backing him.

"He has class written all over him," said technical director James Allison, "and in a very short space of time I'm sure we will also see the results of that on the track."

When asked about the gap between himself and Raikkonen so far this season, however, Alonso undoubtedly recalled the pre-season banter that suggested his 'number 1' crown at Ferrari may finally be in doubt.

"Usually I beat my teammates," the Spaniard joked, according to Finland's MTV3. "So it's not a big surprise."

More seriously, Alonso said Ferrari is working hard to get "both Ferraris" fully up to speed.

"We are not in a position at the moment that we expect," he said ahead of his home grand prix.

"The start of Kimi was not the best in terms of points but I think hopefully soon they will be close to the podium or to the victories and we - both Ferraris - can score many points for the team."

Alonso is a master at playing mind-tricks on other drivers.

10 things we learned in Qually:

Given that pace at Barcelona is seen as an indication of progress for the rest of the year, it looks like Red Bull are still officially the No. 2 team behind Mercedes with Williams and Lotus looking to displace Ferrari in the queue. McLaren's much-promised resurgence failed to materialise.

•Sebastian Vettel is beginning to get his fair share of technical glitches. He brought Q3 to a halt with a failure of second gear that turned into a complete loss of gears seconds later and he had to park the car at Turn 2. In the past it was almost always former team-mate Mark Webber who suffered the Red Bull Racing gremlins. Despite this, team-mate Daniel Ricciardo had already proved himself to be 0.4 quicker, a distinct margin around a circuit the drivers all know.

•Romain Grosjean's capture of 5th place on the grid was the performance of the day. The Frenchman put his Lotus E22 ahead of both Ferraris showing the massive improvement the team had made. Even then there were aspects of the cars handling that Grosjean said weren't 100%.

•It also showed that Pastor Maldonado wasted a golden opportunity by losing it at Turn 3 in Q1. Maldonado's mistake looked like a rookie error, not the work of someone who achieved a heroic victory for the Williams team in 2012. Lotus could have had both cars in the top 10, such was Grosjean's margin, but instead of letting the car spin, Maldonado decided to steer into the slide and steered his car towards a terminal meeting with the inside barrier.

•Felipe Massa will also be kicking himself by having a very poor final sector to his Q3 lap. He was the only driver not to improve between Q2 and Q3 - his Q2 time would have been good enough for P7 on the grid but he should have been alongside Valtteri Bottas who managed another brilliant second row start in P4, having lagged behind Massa all the way up to the final run.

•Lewis Hamilton's pole was the 35th of his career and it puts him just 10 behind Vettel. Hamilton also endured a Maldonado-type-moment in the middle sector of his first lap in Q1 and ran onto the grass after losing the W05 under acceleration. After Q1 he described his car as a "nightmare - we've made it worse" Something that was rapidly solved. Rosberg was faster than him in Q2 but in Q3 he was quicker on both runs. The body language between the two of them afterwards looked decidedly strained.

•Kimi Raikkonen has finally got to grips with the braking and turn-in issues that has made his first four races less than convincing. He outqualified Fernando Alonso at his home race. However both Ferraris will have to watch out for the fast-starting Felipe Massa when the red light goes out tomorrow. The distance between the startline and the run down to the first turn is one of the longest in F1.

•Nico Hulkenberg was fed up that with 'upgrades' and 'steps' and 'new parts' flooding onto the other teams on the grid, the only thing that the Force India had got for Barcelona was a new floor. Thus he and Perez both missed out on Q3 an exception in 2014. In contrast, the Sauber C33 had a new lightweight chassis, new aero, new engine management and still Adrian Sutil finished Q1 in P17.

•Max Chilton produced the performance of the day after Romain Grosjean. Barcelona is the default F1 circuit with the widest variety of corners and some tricky high-speed turns. To outqualify your Ferrari-contracted team-mate is one thing, but to do it by almost 0.6 of a second is an amazing result.

•McLaren were hoping that their Spanish GP upgrades would put them in contention to be best of the rest, but the car still looked like it worked well in a very narrow range of circumstances, despite Jenson being second fastest in the cool conditions of FP1 on Friday. Kevin Magnussen's power unit failed in Q2 and Jenson scrambled into the top 10. Only Vettel (no lap) and Massa (big mistake) were slower.

•Pun of the day goes to F1 technical expert Gary Anderson: "If you lose the tyres at Turn 3 that just compounds the situation..."
TeflonSoul likes this.

Vettel isn't the only one who is getting bored with this season. Mercedes' dominance and the markedly inferior performance of the rest of the teams have made my eyes glaze over. The upside is that the races usually end up having something good going for them, Mercedes' dominance notwithstanding. I hope it works that way in Spain tomorrow.

The start of this race should be epic. I wonder how many spots Massa can jackrabbit past. He may have a promising career in Top Fuel dragsters after F1.

RoGro is up front too. Carnage may be only milliseconds away. Maybe he'll out brake everyone including himself right into the back of the Mercs. wink.gif

We should have an over/under on how many cars Alonso passes in the first two laps. I'll give him three. Don't think he'll get Danny.

Vettels car is about two seconds faster than the cars he's starting around, so that should be fun too.
