I agree Nico's actions during that infamous lap, at least when viewed by the on-board camera, look suspicious.
However, unless I see a pattern in the future, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Done and dusted….until the next contretemps. :-)

McLaren eyes something different for future

Rumours are continuing to swirl around the McLaren team.

In Monaco, former team champion Alain Prost urged the struggling British outfit to "do something a little bit different" to return to the front of the grid.

"Yes, I agree with the comments of Alain," said the Woking based team's new-in-2014 team boss, Eric Boullier.

"This is what I have been doing since I started."

Also new in 2014 has been the return to F1 management of McLaren 'supremo' Ron Dennis, a year ahead of the highly-anticipated works Honda partnership.

This week, the Woking based team denied rumours the Japanese car manufacturer is looking to buy a 50 per cent McLaren stake.

Nonetheless, buy-out rumours persist. Italy's Autosprint reports that, some months ago, Dennis began to seek funding to buy out the 25 per cent share currently held by Mansour Ojjeh, who late last year had a double lung transplant.

Buying Ojjeh's stake would increase Dennis' ownership to 50 per cent, as was the case for a short time in the 80s.

Recently, Dennis told an Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that he wants to sign one of F1's very best drivers, singling out Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel as fitting the bill.

And Italy's Omnicorse has raised even wilder speculation about McLaren's future, claiming Honda is eyeing the Red Bull dream-team of Vettel, Adrian Newey and even team boss Christian Horner.

The only way that is going to happen is if he puts together a winning car or if either one of those 2 throw a sh!tfit and want out of RB/Ferrari.

I can't see it.
I'm sure Honda has kicked themselves in the a$$ every day since letting Brawn have their team of a buck.
However, unless they are now in an alternate universe with new ownership I doubt anything will come of it.

Head – New F1 hybrid turbo engines “too expensive”

Formula One’s new 2014 turbo hybrid engines are “far too expensive,” according to Patrick Head, the former long-term Williams Technical Director.

Head, who co-founded the Williams team in 1977 and led the team to nine constructors’ and seven drivers’ titles over 27 years, has spoken out against the sports new engine formula, which he believes has sent costs shooting up.

“I think the engines are fascinating pieces of kit, but I think they are far too expensive for what they are supposed to be doing,” Head told the BBC.

“You could produce 800hp for 2 million euros a team each year. I think the teams are having to pay about 10 times that amount.

“It’s a very expensive way of powering Formula One cars.”

Head, who resigned as Williams Director of Engineering in 2012, insists that the focus of the sport should remain on providing entertainment, rather than promoting hybrid technology, of which in his mind road car manufacturers already cover to a good standard.

“I think it should be more about the drivers and more about entertainment on the track, which sounds like saying the easy thing, but the road car people are doing a perfectly good job on hybrid anyway at the moment.

“I’m not sure that it needs Formula One to demonstrate hybrid technology.

“I think technically [the sport] is still as fascinating as ever, and although I’m not directly involved in Formula One now I certainly wouldn’t look back and decry it,” he added.

“But I’m not sure that really where it is, is what it is all about, because in truth, for all the talk, I think Formula One is more about entertainment.

“I think some of the way it is going is not sound, but that’s another matter.”

“It’s very good to see,” replied Head, when questioned on the topic of the Williams team’s resurgence this year, the Grove-based outfit having already scored 48 more points after six races in 2014 than it did in the entity of 2013.

“I think Pat Symonds and the other people who have come in, and the two drivers are doing a great job.

“I’m very pleased to see Williams, or at least a few of the people in Williams, albeit they know they need to do better, with a bit of a smile on their face.

“Whereas going into a Williams garage last year was no pleasure for anybody.”

Yesterday, I managed to catch the last hour of the Detroit TUDOR race.
Although my favorite class (GTLM) is over at Le Mans getting ready for the race, it was still entertaining.

The DP class had a great shoot out to the flag.
Like other street courses, there is little opportunity for passing.
As it turned out, this played a huge part in the drama on the last lap.

I noticed the top 9 spots are occupied by all of the LMP1 cars.

LMP2s are between 10-26 (for a total of 16 cars).

The GTs start at 27.
Corvette is at 6 and 11th spot, with tons of 458s all around and only seven 911s in the field.
Can I whine again about there being no Vipers in the field?frown.gif

God bless the one American manufacturer who carries the flag at Le Mans: Chevrolet.

To be honest, I can understand why Chrysler pulled the Viper team back this year.
Almost all Vipers ever built were sold in this country.
More than that, however, is the new generation (Gen 5) hasn't sold worth a damn.
In spite of the fact this gen is the finest Viper ever built by a long shot.

The factory has been shut down for several months.
Although it is supposed to restart this month, I wouldn't be surprised if it never does.
At this point, the Viper is on life support.frown.gif

However, there is NO good reason for Ford to continue its lack of involvement in road or endurance racing.
NASCAR doesn't count and neither does the small series with the nearly stock Mustangs.
I find it irritating they refuse to play in the big leagues.mad.gif

To be honest, I can understand why Chrysler pulled the Viper team back this year.
Almost all Vipers ever built were sold in this country.
More than that, however, is the new generation (Gen 5) hasn't sold worth a damn.
In spite of the fact this gen is the finest Viper ever built by a long shot.

The factory has been shut down for several months.

Its a shame to lose the Viper at LeMans, and like you said this is the best of all.Only 91 '14 vipers were sold and 300 '13's,hard to justify keeping the lights on with those numbers. As far as Ford is concerned, maybe their NASCAR and IMSA programs are all they need.I too would like to see them be a "world" player but what do they have to offer?

With the withdrawal of Strakka Racing at LeMans an American team has been added, http://msn.foxsports.com/speed/sports-cars/american-team-krohn-racing-awarded-late-entry-for-le-mans/

WOW! I didn't realize it was that bad. I think oink is right, the Viper is most likely dead. frown.gif

American supercars are the auto equivalent of incestuous inbreeding. Why anyone would spend money on any of them, over their European "equivalents", is beyond me.
