Picking up the new silly season from the old silly season here .

Let the driver swaps, the aero swaps and engine swaps commence once again...

Up to Vettel to go faster in 2014 says Newey

"Sebastian must quickly learn how to drive this car," the Briton is quoted by Italy's Tuttosport. "There is no more time to lose.

"We will do everything to give him a car that fits his driving style," Newey added, "but then it's up to him to go faster."
Well, that makes it clear.

Well, our Ferrari fans should have something to cheer about:

P1 times:

1 Alonso ESP Ferrari 1'17.238

2 Hamilton GBR Mercedes 1'17.254

3 Rosberg GER Mercedes 1'17.384

4 Vettel GER Red Bull 1'18.131

5 Bottas FIN Williams 1'18.361

Räikkönen can't catch a frickin break.

Explanation why Lewis didn't go faster:

That looked set to be the order, only for Alonso to improve to a 1.17.238 to claim top spot by 0.016s over Hamilton, who set a couple of purple sector times but abandoned his lap after a big lock-up at the hairpin as spots of rain fell briefly.

At track for first practice. You already know t h e results. I don't think Alonso's result in practice will hold up in qualy.

One more thing we found today. Don't need our ear plugs anymore. Too bad.

Sitting at the bar outside our hotel for about 20 minutes. We have seen the following pass by in the past 20 minutes:

2 Lamborghini Gallardos

1 Lamborghini Reventon

1Ferrari FF

1 Nissan GTR

1MB SLS

Maybe I am really in Monaco, not Montreal.

HAMILTON RESTORES ORDER AS MERCEDES CLAIM FP2

Showing that Fernando Alonso’s top spot in FP1 was just a fluke, Lewis Hamilton resumed normal service with the fastest time in FP2 as Formula One got its feet well and truly under the table in Montreal.

However, in the opening 15 minutes of the session it was a different Mercedes powered machine that was on the top spot – that achievement went to Valtteri Bottas in the Williams.

Unfortunately that didn’t last long and Nico Rosberg jumped into P1, Bottas would eventually finish seventh – one place behind team mate Felipe Massa who had a much better FP2 following battery problems in the first session.

Hamilton ultimately claimed first with a time of 1:16.118 after banging in three purple sectors in a row on a gung-ho lap on the super-soft Pirellis. Nico Rosberg ended up finishing 0.18 seconds back having been the first of the front runners to do a stint on the softest tyre option.

The Ferraris were also quite brisk in this session after another thorough testing of their upgrades. While Sebastian Vettel claimed third, the Scuderia scored fourth and fifth for Kimi Raikkonen and Alonso respectively – hopefully putting them on solid ground heading into the race as well as the European leg.

Showing encouraging pace were the two McLarens with Kevin Magnussen setting a 1:17.052 and Jenson Button placing himself seven thousandths behind the Dane. That was good enough for eighth and ninth.

Of note, Jules Bianchi had another shortened session completing only three laps and hinting that the suspension he damaged in FP1 was not 100% repaired for FP2.

The same lack of running curse also struck Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat who completed nine laps and was not seen again after pitting with an unknown problem.

Be VERY nice to Mrs.Oink and just maybe!
I put my foot down long ago: when it comes to cars and houses, she has no voice in the matter.

Well done, Ferrari.

How many of you guys think its just a matter of time before someone gets shocked to death by touching one of these cars?

It's bound to happen. To be fair, (because I'm all about fairness
), there's probably more people afflicted with *something* from that Jet/Rocket fuel they used in the eighties. That stuff was No Bueno. Leads, heavy metals, oxidizers, accelerants, lots of stuff that ends with "zene". That **** gets on your hands, sixty seconds later it's in your liver.
