Interesting McLaren tech…

Wouldn't it be a pisser if this was the 2014 equivalent of Brawn's double diffuser that carried Button to the WC.

I always have a tough time understanding these things based on the photos, but they may well be on to something. I wonder is this was something Paddy Lowe was working on before he left for Merc, and if so, are Marc in a position to respond quickly if this is a true advancement?

With the era of the Blown Diffuser a thing of the past, this could very well be a killer idea.
IF it works, of course.

McLaren did have to do something after last year.

If Paddy Lowe designed it, we could see it on the MBs sometime soon.

Lotus was spending a boatload of time and money on that passive DRS system at the end of the year. Wonder if they will have something like that this year.

OK, that's not really the headline, but it would be if "I" wrote the story. :-)

I claim zero knowledge of aerodynamics, but looking at the photo of the Caterham accompanying the article, it would seem that the step between the "normal" part of the nose and the point where the fake male member attaches would function as an air brake. It would love top see wind tunnel footage of the testing of that nose.

It looks like it is supposed to channel air down under the car for aero purposes. An air brake goes more vertical to create lots of drag/braking.

As fugly as some of the old cars have been, what separates them from today's dogs is the "one piece" look. The cars now have so many different pieces tacked on they look like a gaudy Christmas tree. IMO
