Well played, sir. Well played. :-)

FWIW, when I was searching for that image, Google also found a similar occurrence in Japan involving cars painted in a certain crimson shade sporting an equine mammal on the hood. My sense of decorum and concern for the emotional well being of some of my fellow thread participants prevailed over my childish urge to post it. I also did not want to see a bunch of me beloved Porsches suffer a similar fate, although no doubt such images are out there. :-)

I recall seeing that awhile back.
IIRC, the road was wet and not appreciated by the drivers.wink.gif

For what's it worth, I think 90% of Ferrari drivers don't belong in them. It seems like there are 2 types of driver. The ones that never pass 3k and/or never drive the cars and the other types that think they are Schumacher. Usually, the second type aren't even owners. They are driving rentals or friends/father's cars. Either way, it's a sad life for such a fine automobile.

Unless RB pulls a rabbit out their hat in the next few days OR they are perpetuating the greatest hoax ever seen in top tier motorsport, it sure looks like they are going to be right and truly farked for the start of the season.

Agreed.
The Renault "power unit" is definitely the least of the 3 this year.

Ironically this means that double points for the last event will benefit Red Bull when it was intended to do the opposite. Imagine if they start slow and finally catch up with a win at the end of the season.

While it looks that way so far, I'll believe it when I see it. However, if it happens, I will get lots of enjoyment watching Vettel throw temper tantrums when he isn't winning everything anymore. That will be his chance to prove his worth amongst the greats, with a normal or even sub-par car.

I think Vettel is a lot more mature than others give him credit for.
However, he IS extremely competitive and not immune from public displays of emotion.wink.gif

It seems very likely RB will start the season behind the 8-Ball.
If there is any team on the grid with the ability to turn things around, it's this one.
Adrian Newey hasn't forgot how to design a great car.wink.gif

It looks that way.
That's for sure.
No he has not!

I'm just curious if they will take the let's go just a little bit more and hope it stays cool enough approach or if they will go way conservative and trim it down little by little. Knowing Newey's history, he will take the small incremental steps as he likes everything to be right on the edge. I'm hoping for that scenario, because I think it will delay them from being competitive for longer.

On another note, obviously Merc has shown to be very strong. I wonder how that will play into the fuel consumption aspect? It doesn't matter how strong your "power unit" is if you have to nurse it to save fuel. From the looks of it, that will be my boy's only saving grace. While Ferrari likes to play things close to the chest, I just don't think they have Merc's number yet. I hope I'm terribly wrong.

All of this armchair speculation is great, huh? Is it P1 yet?!?!? biggrin.gif

IIRC, there is a cut-off date for major redesigns.
If RB has screwed the pooch (actually, Renault), then it may be prudent to do a complete or near complete redesign...they have the resources.

True.
Has anyone heard of concern about fuel consumption in the MB powerunit?

I think they would get a pass due to the "safety aspect". Which is BS, but that's how they would spin it.

Unfortunately, no. It's wishful thinking on my part. However, the laws of physics define more power equals more fuel consumption. We'll see how it plays out.

A whole 25hp more than a MP4-12C? Wow, they shouldn't have.......no seriously. What's the point?
This I found very impressive from the first link:
Despite its exceedingly fleet-footed nature, on the EU combined cycle, the McLaren 650S scores 24.2 mpg--a figure that will likely translate into the low-20-mpg range for EPA use.

I do like the look of the front better than the 12C.

Have the Bulls finally gotten their major issues resolved?

And what of Perez's pace?

The next two days should be interesting in terms of establishing a pecking order.

As I think David Hobbs likes to say: "Time to shows us your legs, girls".

I found this from the article to be very interesting and very true:
Ricciardo had completed 66 laps and appeared to be running reliably in the final couple of hours. Sebastian Vettel will take over for the remaining two days of the test, which should help to either confirm or deny the apparent progress made on Friday.

Quote:
And what of Perez's pace?
Every year it seems like FI will make a step up the grid and every year they falter.
Hopefully, they will finally get over that hump in 2014.

Quote:

No doubt the teams will be trying for race pace.

One thing will be certain during the first part of the season: reliability will be the deciding factor.
There is still way too many failures on track; should make for very exciting racing.smile.gif

Although I have paid attention to F1 since the Juan Manuel Fangio days, it was Jacques Villeneuve who made me an F1 fan for life. Mea culpa, in the '90s I still took the Indy 500 seriously, so after Villeneuve won it in '95 I started to pay attention to the F1 races in '96, when Williams hired him. When Villeneuve won the F1 driver's championship in '97 I was ecstatic, not least because the F1 snobs were calling him a jumped up Indy car driver, despite his pedigree, his father had been a successful F1 driver and was killed racing in an F1 car. Anyway, I am glad to seen Jacques back at the 500, although I probably won't bother to watch. Guess I too have become an F1 snob. smile.gif
