Did anyone else catch this performance last night? I found it spectacularly good, especially featuring Yo-Yo Ma performing a piece, Azul, written for him by Osvaldo Golijov. He was accompanied by an accordionist, or at least what I thought to be an accordion, but judging from the notes must be an accordian-like bandoneon, xylophone and exotic South American percussionists, as well as the New York Philharmonic orchestra. Some of the dissonance passages left me behind, but overall it was thrilling, and as usual Ma was masterful.
Enjoyed the broadcast here, especially the crisp you-are-there 1080i shots, well lit,of very skilled orchestra members playing the music. Outstanding PQ via NYC's FIOS here. Have a preference for older classical pieces, but the conductor et al seem to feel it's their duty to educate us with more contemporary music. More, more! -- John
