This year, the cost of a Super Bowl ad will be even with last year: $4 million.

What slays me is this is the one (and only) time of the year where we actually LOOK FORWARD to watching commercials. biggrin.gif What bus me is it seems like once the game is over the best commercials are NEVER seen again, while the duds are run into the ground foe months after they were first ran. mad.gif

Bud Light already started it's commercial from last night, something about 4 celebrities, 4 rock stars, many (commercial) actors and one unsuspecting guy...

So far Arnold is playing table tennis and some rapper I don't know is on a big arse limo..

RIP Mom, we always love you 8/18/13

Sometimes the ads are better than the game itself. Hopefully there will be some good ones this year.

I'm a 'hooker' and a knitter. I guess that makes me bi-stitchual :). Crap I say

Just as long as we don't have a repeat of what happened ten years ago (And I'm NOT about whappened during the halftime shoe) Before that happened CBS was already getting flooded with phone calls from irate parents complaining about five of the commercials. mad.gif

Have any of those irate parents complained to Congress or the FCC about the pharmaceutical ads that are shown every single day at any hour of the day? Have they complained about the prime time programming that glorifies violence?

Some of the pharm ads these days just make me smdh. There's the ED ones, along with bladder control patches for women (ugh!), this drug, that drug. Shoot, the side effects of some of them sound worse than the original condition!

They spend 5 seconds telling you the name of the drug, and the next 55 seconds giving the side effects. That should be a clue right there. smile.gif

Commercial No. One Budweiser - Dog bites man's crotch.

Commercial No.l Two Budweiser - Gassy Horse

Commercial No. Three - Pfizer Viagra

Commercial No. Four - Eli Lilly - Cialis

Commercial No. Five - Glaxo Smith Kline - Lavitra

There was also an Anti-Bush Political Ad (Which didn't score in the poll because the group that put it out bought locals spots.

And then the notorious Halftime Show, which I didn't see because IMO The first couple of minutes it sucked, so I went to cook a Pizza. The next morning I went to USA Today"s website, and boy did I get an eyefull. mad.gif

I actually remember the Bud commercials and thought they were funny. I have a very warped sense of humor and think farts are funny, so those things don't offend me smile.gif. I could do without the 'performance pill' ads though.

And while they give you the list of the things that can go wrong, they show smiling, happy people.

Were they actually irate parents or just a bunch of astroturf from the Parents Television Council?

Did anyone see that stupid Kia commercial with Morpheus? WTF was he or Kia thinking? Yes, I know it's art & all but that crap made no sense what so ever.

It's grandiose, epic and stupid just like most of the disappointing summer blockbusters last summer. They think that just because they dropped a gazillion on something, throw in a big name it's going to sell.

What the heck ever happened to creativity or originality? It's just big, shiny and empty like Man of Steel.

He and Kia were thinking it's a commercial, nothing more or less, and only people like you that have their panties in a bunch about stuff like this truly give a crap.

And Man of Steel wasn't empty. Definitely big and shiny and quite good and entertaining.

No commercials this year impressed me at all... they were like the game itself, boring and just background noise at most Superbowl parties..

I was thinking about this the other day.

Does anyone think that maybe social media is killing the quality of Super Bowl commercials? I mean, I remember when you would be surprised and see these commercials for the first time that day. Now, most of these big name spots are being shown online 2-4 weeks ahead of time, thus lessening the impact.

If I were a big name exec, I don't know if I'd want to shell out tons of money for something that's just going to be leaked online weeks in advance, thus my thought that maybe most aren't bothering to produce "talk about" quality anymore.

I agree. For me, I enjoy both the game and the commercials. I stayed away from anything Super Bowl related as I wanted to watch them during the game. This year, only three stood out for me (and one was shown pre-game). The rest were just kind of 'meh' and it was disappointing. I really wish they would not leak them.

I was complaining about the same thing when I was watching.

As far as the commercials, my favorite was the Radio Shack ad.

It's OK, they have plenty of drugs to treat all the side effects also. wink.gif

The SB commercials have lost their luster over the past 4 or 5 years. Seems that the vast majority just aren't trying as hard as before.

Eiher that or that they're trying TOO hard to be cutesy or sentimental or with celebrities or with speial FX or ..... For instance, to me all the car ones seemed alike, just a blue of SFX and all forgettable.

I liked the Radio Shack one the best too, THAT one stood out.

I am a complete 180⁰ from #19 above on the Kia ad. I viewed the ad as one of the best produced ones I have seen lately. The little details from the separate reflections in Fishburne's sunglasses, the melting spoon in the restaurant patron's hand, and the perfect lip-sync (best I have ever seen in any medium) of Fishburne's mouth to the song was arresting, I thought. The whole effect of elitism may turn off many, but the target audience were people looking for an elite auto, and the pitch was perfect. Besides, what kind of mope can't be won over by Nessun Dorma sung brilliantly?

The Kia ad took my first place prize even over the Doberhuahua ad for Audi.

The "Doberhuahua" dog looked just like the dog from "The Mask" when he puts on the mask, even the same attitude and CGI look
