WOOT!!!!

I just found this on YouTube; a new series coming to Showtime in May:

Move over True Blood, there's a new game in town.smile.gif

Young C 02-15-2014 05:13 PM

I've been looking forward to this! Showtime hasn't had a horror series in a while.

Oh, I think the typical Showtime threads are like worded "on SHO" i.e. Penny Dreadful on SHO wink.gif

OK, I didn't know....I don't usually start threads on this particular forum.

Going to be hard to beat the legendary Masters of Horror seriess. Guess it's a different type of show to begin with.

Looking at the trailer, it does appear to be different from MoH.

Here is some info from Wikipedia about the series:

Only a few more weeks.

lonwolf615 04-21-2014 09:59 AM

Anything with Billie Piper in it deserves a look see. Thanks for the heads up oink.

mgkdragn 04-21-2014 03:10 PM

Looks like a solid cast .. I'm in ..

jabbathespud 05-06-2014 01:48 PM

The first episode is on VOD on DirecTV. After watching it, I'm in. I was afraid it was going to be too much of a gorefest but it wasn't. There was gore, but it served the plot so I was ok with it.

set to record smile.gif

WilliamR 05-06-2014 03:11 PM

We will definitely watch it but I have my doubts. I sure hope it rocks. I could use a new horror show on my record list.

hooked01 05-07-2014 05:41 AM

No Billie Piper in the first episode that was free On Demand but the show looks intriguing. To bad I don't have Showtime.

Looks interesting...here's an article about it

Caught it OnDemand. Looks promising. Very good production values. Audio was outstanding.

I hadn't focused on Penny Dreadful until I read a positive review on Grantland. The Grantland review encouraged me to setup a season pass for the show. Of course, the promise of Eva Green and Billie Piper didn't hurt either. smile.gif

Today, Showtime broadcasted a 15 minute preview and behind-the-scenes program called "Inside PD."
Very interesting and worth checking out.smile.gif

It was pretty interesting. The one thing that stood out to me is they said "no CGI will be used in the show". That's quite refreshing for a modern show. I'm looking forward to it.

ss9001 05-11-2014 06:18 PM

the 15 min preview showed some very elaborate Victorian decorated sets and costuming. nice stuff.
got it set to record tonight and will watch ASAP but watching Game of Thrones comes first biggrin.gif

LOL. That's like Tom Cruise saying he does all his own stunts. CGI is in nearly EVERY TV show, including 'reality shows' in one form or another. As I type this, there are 23 visual effects people credited on Penny Dredful's IMDB listing so far.

Don't kill the messenger. Just repeating what they said. Maybe they meant for the characters as they were doing a prosthetic for the face of one of the characters as they mentioned it.

John Mason 05-12-2014 10:49 AM

Nice production--even though I'm not a horror-show fan. Shot in Dublin, it creates a murky Victorian-era atmosphere better than many shows, The title, according to a video short at the main site, refers to cheap 19th-century periodicals stressing crime and horror. Impressive writing and cinematography. One of the lead characters, who lost his daughter to those pesky vampires, details hunting lions in Africa, then suddenly becoming the hunted instead of a hunter. -- John

They had me with "my name is Victor Frankenstein". I thought it was beautifully filmed.

C*Tedesco 05-12-2014 05:00 PM

Not bad, not bad at all. Going to watch 2nd episode tonight!
