Watching Jared become a victim of full-on operational automation was hilarious. I see that he's back next week, but it would have been even funnier if he was stranded long enough to miss the big event.

I got a strong amount of satisfaction watching him slap that little piece of trash in the face.

And because I too am a nerd I actually scanned the QR code on the wall of the base Jared was stranded on.

It was the URL for the fake company making the platform - Raviga Capital - but the site doesn't exist. They missed an easter egg there.

Yes, that was great. I said to my wife after the first incident that he needed to get Erlich back there to kick some punk a$$.

So far it definitely has the makings of the best sitcom HBO has produced in the last few years. I would rate this above Veep too.

As fond as I have long been of Veep, I agree that Silicon Valley is even better.

This last episode had a few actual LOL moments for me. The shows before were entertaining, just didn't make me laugh.

Although I really like this show, I think Amazon's show 'Betas' feels more realistic in comparison. It's free to watch if you have Amazon prime, the first season is complete. They're both good shows.

I don't really look at Mike Judge productions for realism, I expect a heightened sense of satire and character. Just as he did in Office Space and Idiocracy. I've seen a few episodes of Betas and while I agree it does feel more "realistic" it also feels to me like an MTV demo sitcom.

Yup, Mike Judge productions are notorious for making a point through embellishment, and I think it works much better and is more interesting than a straightforward portrayal of reality. Idiocracy took this concept to the extreme.

The writers have been doing a fantastic job in conveying his sensibilities in this show. The whole situation surrounding Jared in this past episode was completely in the realm of what one would expect from Judge.

I really loved Veep's first year but the concept and execution got boring for me. This show has the same things going for it and against it too.

You make a food point. I should have stated in my last post that while Silicon Valley is just getting started, Veep is in its third season. Almost without fail, shows seem to slip a little that far along.

When Jared was being driven by the autonomous car and it showed robotic feet pressing the pedals my initial response was "That's just stupid. Even basic cruise control would be able to control acceleration and braking without a machine to press the pedals."

Then I remembered this was a Mike Judge show and suddenly the idea that Peter Gregory's idea of a self-driving car would be a robot in the driving seat, fit right in. biggrin.gif

Someone said Peter Gregory was in his last scene already, right? Did they invent this island thing to write him off the show?

I would say, probably.

This is a good article about how sick he actually was during filming.

It was bad enough the show lost a great character, but when you read the details about Welch it just becomes even more sad.

Yes ... and Christopher Evan Welch was likely on the verge of greater things with the SV exposure ..

I agree, both Judge and HBO know what they're doing when it comes to the quality of production and the talent level of the actors. I do like having the two different takes on the same subject though, and thankfully they're not in a competition for survival like Community and Big Bang Theory were, where one kinda clobbers the other.

I think the show has gotten funnier last couple of eps, even as the humor has gotten broader.

Very sad about Mr. Welch. Such a unique performance. I would never have guessed he was sick while filming.

Season finale in two weeks? HBO ordered too few episodes. It's only just started hitting it's stride.

I agree. Has it been picked up for a second season?

Yes.

I felt the same way about the first season of Veep when it was given only 8 episodes. Two more to make a conventional HBO season of 10 episodes could indeed have gone a long way with Silicon Valley, but we all have that much more to look forward to next year.

Thank you for the reply. 8 episodes does seem quite short but I am enjoying very much and look forward to next season.

8 initial episodes at 30 minutes each on an unproven, Tech related show seems like a reasonable commitment to me .. I was at first reluctant to even watch it .. but I'm glad I did .. smile.gif

Does anyone know whether most of the presentations made last night were real or staged? There is an actual TechCrunch Disrupt and it was held in SF last year.

http://techcrunch.com/event-type/disrupt/

I'm guessing some of them were actual presentations.
