I was checking the return date for this show and discovered sometime in the past year that HBO created http://www.piedpiper.com

Returns with Game of Thrones on April 12.

Another very good episode tonight. Looking forward to this season. HBO has a killer lineup right now on Sunday's.

Hmmm, was actually a little disappointed. They got rid of one of the best characters in this show. Felt a little ho hum to me. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this show or something but was underwhelmed.

Who are you referring to? Hope you're not talking about Peter Gregory

Maybe the character played by the actor who died?

The investor guy, who is modeled on Peter Thiele?

You do realize that the actor who played Gregory died right? This was their "send off" for him and his character.

Which character are you talking about? Peter Gregory? The actor who played him, Christopher Evan Welch, passed away Dec, 2013.

So glad to be able to see more episodes of this really excellent show. A friend of mine lives and works in Silicon Valley, and I go and visit most every year. I can't vouch for the internal politics being correct (though I bet they are), but the production design of the exteriors and the residences are spot on.

It made me forget Mad Men was on too.

And Christopher Evan Welch is sorely missed. The new woman may do, but it just won't be the same.

Yeah, the death of Welch obviously left a cloud over this episode which they had to deal with. It was probably a tough episode to shoot and write considering the impact he had on everyone during the first season.

I still had plenty of good laughs outside of that, especially when Ehrlich started on his anti-neg confusion strategy - "Your logo looks like a sideways vagina. I find that to be racist."

It was driving me crazy trying to remember where I had seen the head of Stern Taylor this episode, until I realized it was James from Spin City. This show isn't on his IMDB page.

I thought it was pretty cool the show has updated the opening titles to reflect the current state of Silicon Valley. Adding new players like Uber and Whatsapp, removing some dying companies and updating Yahoo with the Alibaba logo. They also added Oculus and then had the Facebook logo absorb it.

Renewed for a third season today!

” ‘Veep’ and ‘Silicon Valley’ are terrific series, and I’m immensely proud that they will return to HBO next year,” said Michael Lombardo, HBO’s president of original programming. He noted that the two half-hours coupled with “Game of Thrones” and “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” have given HBO a “stellar Sunday night like no other.”

Yes, understood, very sad, but they could of had a new character/head of a company with similar quirks, etc. His eccentric nature was the funniest part of the show. It wasn't the actor's ability, it was what they had him saying/doing. This female CEO they introduced just doesn't do it. Truly sad about the actor, but they didn't have to abandon what the character brought to the show.

Most of Peter Gregory's quirks came from Welch himself. Mike Judge has said this on many occasions. So if you thought the character was good then a lot of the credit should be to the actor who made him that way.

Out of respect for what Welch brought to the show Judge specifically did not want to have a new actor doing the same thing or feel like they were trying to copy the character of Peter Gregory.

"Mike Judge described Peter as representing a somewhat “Asperger-y” end of eccentricity spectrum. Was the intent with Laurie to present the opposite, more OCD/type-A end of that spectrum?

We definitely didn’t want to feel like we had just cast a new person to play the same character. We felt like whoever came into that part was going to be held up against what Chris did, so we wanted to push her in a completely different direction. But also, we did odd, quirky characters on the show, so it had to be somebody that was of this odd, dysfunctional world. We had to find a different sort of eccentric. I hope people don’t feel like, “Oh, they took somebody else and put them in the Peter Gregory part,” cause that’s not what our intention was. We tried very hard to write a different character, and Laurie is based on a lot of conversations we had with these super-smart people whose brains go about five times faster than their mouths can go."

I'm slightly more concerned what Chris Diamantopoulos will bring to the show than the replacement for Peter Gregory. Diamantopoulos' character on Showtime's Episodes was terrible and almost ruined the season.

From Valleywag,

Silicon Valley Is Becoming a Documentary About Silicon Valley

Quote:
Accuracy is the best thing about Silicon Valley. Anyone who's spent any time in the Bay Area tech scene will wince at how well the show's writers have nailed the culture of nerd despair and hubris. This season, some of the jokes are so dead-on that it's hard to even consider them jokes.

Wonder if it's true what Gavin said, that 96% of all data was created in the last two years, from trends like selfies.

I believe he said 92%. I remember a couple of years ago when it was said that the figure is around 90%.

It's no surprise, and it will only get more significant when content and people's useless uploads of genitalia, selfies and rants are commonly at around 4K resolution.

One of the funniest bits in the premier was one of the most subtle. When he was speaking to Gregory's replacement outside the memorial service, all the cars in the background were Prius's (Prii?).

Didn't think the second was as good as the first but it's good to see the show is giving Jared a much better part than just being the guy everyone wants out of the room.

The awkward ending cliffhanger decision though I thought was inspired.

I thought the second episode was even better than the first. It perfectly captured the awkward nature of communication after burning bridges, and the lawyer was hilarious simply by being spot-on with how these large-scale lawsuits seem to work. Perhaps the best part was when those nerds tried to steal Richard's algorithm methods by feigning friendship.

The ending was very Mike Judge-esque in tone, even if he didn't write it.
