The Strain on FX

Couldn't find a thread for this. Being a big fan of Del Toro's, this looks like it could be a winner to me.

Quote:
Co-Creators, Executive Producers and Writers del Toro and Hogan co-wrote the pilot
script for The Strain, which was directed by del Toro. Emmy® Award winning Writer
and Producer Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) will serve as Executive
Producer/Showrunner and Writer. Gary Ungar will also serve as Executive
Producer. The series is produced by FX Productions.

Vampires.

Despite my fondness for FX and del Toro that element alone has me sitting on the fence undecided about this show.

Waboman 05-10-2014 06:51 PM

I'm ok with vampires, as long as they don't shimmer in the sun. Plus I have a feeling del Toro will do it right.

cybersteve 05-10-2014 07:53 PM

After reading the books I'm curious to see how this looks on tv. The "vampires" are basically a vampire/zombie combination.

So basically, del Toro is knocking off the story from Blade 2 that he directed and recreating infected vampires like Nomak? Nomak was a vampire that was infected with the "Reaper" virus.

VisionOn 05-10-2014 10:16 PM

On the upside if this is actually good it will not be cancelled prematurely. John Landgraf has already said it will run for at least three seasons in order to tell the story.

Yup, at least that is how the books are.

Waboman 05-12-2014 11:46 PM

Love the Blade movies. I need to watch them again.

Same here.

Cuse is the reason I won't bother watching.

TeeJay1952 05-30-2014 07:54 AM

Ordered the trilogy from Amazon. Hope it is fun. I liked Justin Cronin's first 2 in his Trilogy (The Passage, The Twelve)

When I read the books I thought, "This is written as if it is a script for a movie." Then I read he always wanted to do something like this and decided to do the books on the way.

At least you're not going to the dentist after watching Marathon Man. Then again, neither one is ideal. Best to keep one eye open.;)

archiguy 06-30-2014 07:04 AM

Or visiting the orthopedist for ankle surgery after watching Misery. This is fun! :p

The way one station had "edited for time allotted" Marathon Man, you would never have suspected there was the whole "Is it safe?" scene. :(

Almost any human endeavor can be fraught with risk, even grocery shopping (The Mist 2007), going to the mall (Back to the Future), buying flowers (Little Shop of Horrors), or even riding an elevator (the beginning of Speed 1994).

I don't usually pay attention to FX on Sunday, so this is a reminder bump for everyone else who might miss the premiere tonight.

The downside is that if it is good, they'll probably give him 7 years to tell his 3 year story. ;)

Thanks for the bump. Been looking forward to this one.

Just read the books. It read like a screenplay. Lot's of fun. Who doesn't enjoy a post apocalyptic vampire tale?

Young C 07-14-2014 08:12 AM

I loved the series opener. I'm hooked.

FX does it again :D

Post-apocalyptic and vampires are two things that I usually hate as I feel they have been done to death, yet I still gave this show a chance on the strength of it being an FX program.

I thought the premiere was alright. The acting and dialogue were quite shoddy at times and some plot elements were spoon-fed to the audience a little too much, but this series could be a nice little diversion.

Lol:

With all the constant bombardment of ads, on every possible platform the bus posters, on the Subway, news papers, it's on every other channel I still forgot, didn't want to add it to my Tivo line up, as it's already full.

Should have posted here :o
