I think they are making this series after he was rumored to of been killed. So there is nothing based on history as everything is fiction on what if he didn't really die. I believe he probably shaved it all off to hide/change his identity?

One of the main ideas of the show is Blackbeard 20 years after he supposedly died ..

I watched this for the first time last night. How many episodes did I miss? Not surprisingly Malkovich carries the show, hope this is not the end of his film career.

‘Crossbones’ Steady In Week 2, ‘What Would You Do’ Rises, ’20/20′ Up, ABC Wins Night
By Dominic Patten, Deadline.com - Jun. 7, 2014

There was a break from the NBA Finals and the NHL Stanley Cup Final on Friday but there was still action on the seas on TV last night, in more ways than one. The only network with a full schedule of originals, NBC started its Friday primetime with Brian Williams Reporting: Journey To Normandy (0.9/4). Including an interview with President Obama, the anchor’s heartfelt hour-long tribute to the heroes of D-Day on the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the liberation of Europe from the Nazis drew an audience of 5.8 million. The special was followed by a 1-hour and 1-minute Dateline (1.3/5), which was even with last week’s 8 – 10 PM episode.

The second week of Crossbones (0.9/3) saw a 9% slip for the pirate drama from last week’s debut. Holding on to almost of its premiere’s draw among Adults 18-49, the Blackbeard re-telling got a total audience of 3.84 million last night, down 21% from the 4.91 million who tuned in for its May 30 debut. Because of Major League Baseball preemptions on NBC in San Francisco and Philadelphia, expect some changes when the final numbers come in.

Overall NBC came second for the night in the key demo with a 1.0/4 while ABC took the top spot with a 1.3/5 rating. ABC won or tied for No. 1 every time slot last night. The peacock won the night in terms of total viewers with 5.22 million watching. CBS, Fox and The CW were all encores on Friday.

After kicking off the night with a Shark Tank (1.1/5) repeat, ABC followed with Week 3 of the new season of Primetime: What Would You Do? (1.3/5). The hidden camera series saw a two-tenths rise from its May 30 show. Ending the night, 10 PM’s 20/20 (1.5/5) bopped up 7% from last week. The news mag show was the top rated program of the night while NBC’s Dateline beat it by a nose to be the most watched show on Friday with a viewership of 6.06 million.

I enjoyed the first two episodes, but I think the show might have lost me this week. The protagonist works for the governor and in the first week successfully poisons Blackbeard, only saving him after siing a Spanish pliot and needing to know what is going on to protect England.

Two weeks later, after meeting a girl, he is defying the governor. And not only that, but murdering English soldiers and a priest. I haven't seen enough to justify that change of heart. Is it the magnanimity of Blackbeard? the fellow who last week plotted the framing and murder of a fellow pirate captain?

I missed two episodes so I did not know what motivates that guy. I am confused about the woman, she is two timing on her disabled husband and in front of people?

I got 10 minutes into the episode and then decided no more, the show isn't worth my time. Another reason is I have over 70 various unwatched show episodes on my hard drive and I recently started streaming from Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video.

Watched the latest episode. Man, there are just to many story lines going on. Everyone is betraying everyone else who in turn is betraying someone different. I understand it is Pirates and all but just to much to worry about and not enough to just settle in and enjoy/get behind what is going on.

Same here, I had the third episode on my DVR since it aired but as time went on, I had less and less enthusiasm for watching it. I finally deleted it and am done with the show. During TV's dog days of Summer, there other sources of better entertainment as you've noted.

I slogged through the episode that had piled up, and now that there's a two week hiatus, I think it's a good time to call it quits, too. I just don't care what happens to any of the characters enough to spend more time with it.

I have the last two episodes still on the DVR. I keep passing them over to watch other things.

I may just delete them and the season pass and give up on the show. It's just not fun to watch.

‘Crossbones’ Final Episodes To Air On Saturday
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - Jul. 24, 2014

NBC has shipped pirate drama Crossbones to Saturday for its last two airings, with this Friday’s episode the last to air in the series’ regular Friday 10 PM slot. The John Malkovich starrer will then be replaced by an NBC News special and Dateline for the following two weeks.

Crossbones, which had been in the works for a long time, having been announced at NBC’s 2012 May upfront, started slow and has since lost half of its premiere rating, most recently drawing a 0.5 in 18-49 and 2.7 million viewers last Friday. NBC often sends underperforming dramas to end their runs on the low-trafficked Saturday night, something it previously did with Smash and Crisis.

Well, now I feel better about deleting the unwatched episodes and removing the season pass a few days ago.

Seriously, how do you make a show about pirates so boring to watch?

Yeah it should be more like Under the Dome, ugh rolls eyes. Guess some were expecting it to be more like a Micheal Bay film or POTC instead of more like the usual productions John Malkovich has been in.

You mean like Con Air or Red (1 and 2) or Johnny English or Warm Bodies?

If there is one thing you can say about Malkovich, he doesn't have a "usual" role. He appears in all types of productions from independent to comedy to mainstream action.

And of course, Michael Bay movies too.

If Con Air, Red 1, 2 and Warm Bodies are the kind of parts Malkovich gets offered I can see why he turned to TV. None of those films are what Malkovich made him a 'star' more like did it for the money cameo parts.

Oh, please, you know that's not what I meant.

We're talking about a show about pirates, yet they fail to act like them at all. If I'm going to watch show about pirates, I want to see some actual pirating going on.
