Dominion on SyFy

Series premier of Dominion on the SyFy Channel was is tomorrow today, Thursday, June 19, 2014, 9pm/8c.

This is the link to the SyFy page on Dominion: http://www.syfy.com/dominion.

From the SyFy page:
Dominion is an epic supernatural drama set in the near future. Specifically, 25 years after "The Extinction War," when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, waged war against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, chose to side with humanity. Rising out of the ashes of this long battle are newly fortified cities which protect human survivors. At the center of the series is the city of Vega, a glistening empire that has formed from the ruins of what was once Las Vegas.

So far the critics have been less than favorable about the pilot (e.g., The Hollywood Reporter). However, sometimes I find my tastes at variance with the critics so I'll record the pilot and watch it to form my own opinion. Besides, the HD DVR can erase recordings pretty quickly.

My very humble setup:
Man Cave:Vizio E500i-A1 "Smart TV" (50-in 1080p 120Hz LED/LCD, has Netflix app.), Blu-ray players (Sony BDP-S3100, old LG BD390), Roku (the original model: N1000), PC (Windows 7), Comcast Internet (25Mbps/5Mbps).
Bedroom:LG 32LV3400-UA TV (32-in 768p 60Hz LED/LCD), HD DVR (Motorola RNG200N), Xfinity Comcast cable (Digital Starter Package), DVD/VHS player.

I don't even watch Supernatural, and this sounds like a blatant ripoff to me.

This is based on the movie "Legion". I liked the movie, so I will check it out.

I'm wary. Last time I went for a highly promoted show it was "The Following" which despite a stellar cast turned out to be utter dreck.

Yeah, I read that somewhere. This is essentially a sequel series to Legion. I never saw that movie, even though I noticed it playing on the premium cable channels quite a bit. The premise seemed a bit cheesy, so I didn't feel compelled to watch it. I'll probably catch the premiere and make a decision then.

I don't know if this series has been promoted any more than any other new show. The only ads I've seen for it have been on Syfy paired with the second season of 'Defiance', which makes some sense as Syfy is airing them back-to-back.

I was wary about starting this thread because I, too, think there is a good chance I will hate it. Nonetheless, I decided it was worth at least a look and others might also want to look before deciding that we all hate the show.

Hey, it's not cops and robbers, and that fact alone means it deserves at least a look or two.

I didn't realize it was based on the movie. We will definitely check it out but it is really getting torn up in the early reviews.

For me that's a good sign. Critics hardly ever like the shows that I like on the syfy channel.

Well, I can't think of even one show on SyFy that I liked in years! I will check this out as it's a sequel to LEGION. (25 years later and the baby is all grow'd up.) But, from what I've seen of it, I'm not optimistic. The concept may be fine but the execution looks to be by-the-numbers.

I am recording it and hope it is better than Legion which has a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Same here, they never like what I like . I'll record it tonight and watch it sometime tomorrow.

I have seen Legion so I was interested. Having watched it, I already have the next one set to record. It's not great but it has promise. And I have a reason to watch SyFy after the end of Warehouse 13. Some of the future shows advertised looked interesting.

Thursdays at 9pm are under my protection.

Yes, it looks interesting enough that I have next week's episode set to record. I hope the show will live up to its potential instead of just falling into a war / love triangle / power struggle rut.

I had to chuckle at the shower "how many ways can we pose to hide the naughty bits" scene.

We were promised nudity and that's was it, it should be set to TV 14 instead of TV MA

There were also those girls that Michael slept with, with clothes placed right in the (wrong) right places

Anthony Head has gone from playing the wise mentor in Buffy to hard-ass fascists in Merlin and now Dominion. I wish he would get better roles.

Part of a but is considered nude for the ratings. Dumb but true.

Dominion - pilot

I'm in. Had to watch the pilot twice though to get everything down. Loved Legion - hope this lives up to it.

So does that means there was more nudity in Star Trek: The Next Generation? Season 6, episodes 10 & 11 (The Chain of Command, Parts 1 & 2) has Captain Picard taken prisoner and he is stripped, and I think there was even a shot of him with his hands in cuffs suspended above his head and there is a full frontal shot of him, though from a distance.

In my estimation not as good as the Defiance season opener, but still sponge worthy.
