I'm still somewhat annoyed by the selective deafness of the security people: our heroine made a lot of racket while climbing on the elevator. And leaving her shoes on while climbing up the shaft seemed quite realistic. Not.

Heh, it was never meant to be realistic. How can she not be injured from that fall? Ouch.

It would seem that the dearth of science fiction content in the future is as bad as it is today, because none of these people seem to have any experience with the genre. "The alien... it somehow reconnects us with our loved ones!" Uh... no, it reads your mind and shows you what you want to see in order to manipulate you into doing what it wants you to do. Do you really think it's going to hesitate to eat you once you've outlived your usefulness? For somebody who presumably needed a lot of education in the sciences in order to become the head of a space exploration agency, Sparks sure is an idiot.

I just wanted to say even though I quit this show a long time back, it made my heart skip a step to read the word dearth. I'd say that word described many facets of this show.

Quit failing to flip the switch

The alien makes Stepford people. Molly and Spark's wife both made me think of the Stepford Wives.

I don't think we need to ascribe those faux beliefs to a dearth of SF. It could just as easily be attributed to the aliens brainwashing all of the people they interact with. It's just more obvious with the people they "eat".

It would also seem that the alien is getting stronger. Until now it has only been able to show projections of people, but now it's able to put Molly into an entire fictional environment while her body walks around in a zombified state. Perhaps the entire world will be living in The Matrix as the alien feeds on everybody all the time by the end of the season.

Anybody with thoughts on the idea presented in the last episode that there are actually two beings, or perhaps, one being with a split personality, one good one bad? Red herring? And really, wouldn't there be three beings / personalities, given the alien symbol? Seeing any religious significance (Holy Trinity) to this?

I'm getting the feeling that group of writers just got in a room and threw a bunch of sci fi stuff up on the wall to see what stuck. A unifying theory would have been nice. Not holding my breath!

I'll throw my hat into the ring saying that it's a red herring. Molly is full of wishful thinking that the alien somehow got some "goodness" from her and that it "needs" her as its mother, but we've already seen that the only thing it needs from her is her access codes to redirect the space station. Perhaps it's trying to bring more of its brethren from space to Earth, or perhaps it's bringing the station to Earth so it can hitch a ride back to its home. There's no way of knowing at this point, but Molly's insistence that the alien is half human and therefore half good seems to be naive foolishness at this point. All it does is trick people and feed on them; it has shown zero redeeming qualities so far.

What I like is that this is such a fresh idea that has never been done before! E.g. --

Distant Early Warning (21 Oct. 1975)
TV Episode - 90 min - Drama | Horror | Mystery

Aliens infiltrate an Arctic research station, and perform experiments on the unsuspecting crew by mind control which makes them think they are seeing dead members of their families.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266471/

(This was actually a cool show that has stuck with me for 39 years.)

Are you sure about that? Maybe the non-human half is actually nanite-based technology, so Robokid is even more vulnerable! Perhaps he will hallucinate that the robojukebox from the park has been fixed.

"You've come back to me!"
"Yes, and now I need your help with something..."

Last night we learned about the Fountain of Youth in the form of liquid found on an asteroid, but that liquid is now used up and a new supply is needed. Also, the "child's" powers are growing, and the "boy" is becoming more moody.

I plan to catch the remaining episodes of the season.

This show (and the 1975 show it resembles) are both very derivative of a 1961 Polish SF novel by Stanislaw Lem called Solaris. The 1975 show also ripped off the 1938 SF novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr., first published in the August 1938 Astounding Science Fiction magazine.

At least they are finally revealing the underlying premise, the mystery. Pretty nonsensical, of course.

Speaking of 'pretty,' Halle's acting in the last couples eps has really taken a downturn. She seems to be getting tired of the whole thing (and perhaps, "The Thing." Be funny if it looked like a carrot).

And I thought the writer(s) blew the big revelatory scene where Sanada lays out the story -- thought they should have said less and shown more. Sanada just concludes with, "I am older than you think..." and then cut to him being lifted from the mine into an obviously long-past world. Perhaps a steam engine puffing past and a sailing ship in the harbor.

Concur 100% on Solaris. Great book and interesting movie (the first one). And you can see from my prior post that I also had "Who Goes There?" / "The Thing from Another World" on my mind.

I guess, In Space, No One Can Hear You Steal.

We still have no idea what the yellow goop is, though. Does the alien have to sneeze, and then its mucus gives eternal life, or something?

Why did Sparks need to go back to the ISEA? Aside from taking out his guard during the interrogation, what did he accomplish? Molly had already diverted the space station to meet up with the recovered escape pod in the last episode.

Also, kudos to me for predicting that the daughter is still alive.

Forget about her acting: Molly's IQ seems to be taking a downturn. She still doesn't find it even a little bit suspicious that the way she had to "save" her fictional baby was by entering her ISEA access codes? What could that possibly have to do with saving the baby? No, she's still off in la-la land prattling on about how the vision means that the alien needs its mommy, because it's scared. I think she's vying with Sparks now to see who can be the dumbest character.

You did get a far view rear end look at the "baby" as it exited the ramp at the end of the show..... Looked mostly human!

Molly's human looking baby was shown during the episode preview for next week's IIRC.

100% correct! Following up on the earlier comments about the resemblance of the plot to prior SF stories and films, I believe that a show about an alien impregnating the beautiful Halle should have been titled "The Schwing from Another World."
