The Almighty Johnsons on SyFy

[Do all characters named Axl must be idiots?]

This is a New Zealand comedy-drama series about four brothers, raised in heartland New Zealand, who also happen to be the living incarnations of Norse Gods.

The first episode reminded me of Eureka (and that's a good thing). Much better than Dominion.

Gave this a shot. Not sure yet. Shows like this seem to do alright initially because of the reveal of the secret. However, not sure I like the main character Axl. Kind of a douche so far. They have a lot of things set up. Like the idea that their "god-like" powers are pretty wimpy. Of course, that all may change.

I have seen the first two seasons, it's an OK show but not great. Syfy will have to edit out a lot on this show.

I am cautiously optimistic about the show. While sometimes a tad difficult to decipher their words, I find the down under dialects a refreshing change of pace. Plus there are lots of attractive women.

I pulled down the first two episodes of the original NZ airings and even with the skin and swear words intact, I just could not bring myself to pull down any further episodes.

Finally, a show I don't care for.

BTW, there was no way I was going to suffer through the hack job that SyFy was going to do to this show. Now I won't have to.

Anybody still watching? I enjoy the show a lot, it took a few episodes to get into the humor and story I guess, but it's on the DVR now. Looks like Season #1 ends Friday night with the final two episodes airing at 11:00pm and 12:00 pm ET. Anybody know if Syfy plans on airing the other seasons?

Not only was I still watching I finished all 3 seasons!
I got tired of SyFy censoring a show that shows late at night time. But I do watch the re-runs.

The two part finale didn't record for me but I watched it on Syfy. At first I was cringing about Axel and Gaia because it seemed so stupid television but I was happy with the twists and turns even though I knew the marriage resolution. Didn't see the last one coming. I'm enjoying this series. Wish I could watch it unedited and binge on it up to season 3.

Haven't heard anything. It bothered me a bit when they moved it from 10:00pm ET to 11:00pm ET, that didn't look very promising to me, but who knows.

"The Almighty Johnsons." Sounds like the title to a porn film.

I found the following on their official site. If Syfy has already purchased the first 2 seasons, you have to assume that they will at least show the second one sometime next year, but you never know..

"NEW YORK – August 13, 2013 — Expanding its stable of international hits such as Lost Girl and Continuum, Syfy today announced it has acquired the first two seasons (23 episodes) of the popular New Zealand scripted series The Almighty Johnsons from independent television distributor ALL3MEDIA International...."

Didn't realize that SyFy is showing the 2nd season of this. Fortunately D* has the 3 episodes I missed on "On-Demand".

Yes. But be aware, they are showing 2 episodes a week- one on Wednesdays and one Thursdays at 10pm EST. They should run thru s2 by second week of December.

After daylight savings time (my state doesn't do that), Syfy got all screwed up. I had to get my box reset and now it will record the shows. I had to manually record the shows which for some reason is playing at 12:00 am. I do like the show so help me. This show shouldn't be any good but it is. Kudos to the cast and crew.

I got through it and thought it wrapped up satisfyingly. The Mike arc was kinda lame both with his attitude and claims. I guess they needed some tension for the final hunt for Frigg. Mike did solve his problem with getting to Frigg pretty well though I guess it wouldn't be too hard to figure out something. The finale made all the maneuvering fairly useless anyhow. Got to wonder what would happen next as they all are pretty much losers in that their gods have wrecked their lives and occupied their time. The result with Michelle indicates that there was some sense of obligation to them.

Only problem was now that Axl was free he didn't reunite with Gaia. I loved how Mike overinsured his bar knowing Colin would burn it down.

Not sure how you can "overinsure" a bar. Generally, insurance just pays the value of the loss. You can make sure you have enough insurance to rebuild or replace and to pay for business losses but you can't insure property for more than it is worth.
