You're the Worst on FX

About the show:

An original comedy from writer and executive producer Stephen Falk, You’re The Worst puts a dark twist on the romantic comedy genre. Narcissistic, brash, and self-destructive “Jimmy Shive-Overly,” played by Chris Geere (The Spa), thinks all relationships are doomed. Cynical, people-pleasing, and stubborn “Gretchen Cutler,” played by Aya Cash (The Wolf of Wall Street), knows that relationships aren't for her. So when they meet at a wedding, it's only natural that the two of them go home together and, despite their better judgment, begin to find themselves falling for each other.

Rounding out the cast is Desmin Borges (The Good Wife), who plays “Edgar Quintero,” Jimmy’s once homeless, war veteran roommate, and Kether Donohue (The Carrie Diaries) as “Lindsay Jillian,” Gretchen’s best friend and former partner in crime who’s now struggling with a life of domesticity.
You're The Worst is a modern look at love and happiness told through the eyes of two people who haven't been very successful with either. It's the story of Gretchen and Jimmy, fear, heartbreak, romance, sex, food, Los Angeles, friendship, and the fact that sometimes the worst people make the best partners.
You’re The Worst is produced by FX Productions.

'You're the Worst' airs on Thursdays at 9:30 PM CST only on FX.

I enjoyed it. Not the best show but it had it's perks. I liked the part when Aya Cash was disclosing her bad behavior to her ex-partner and he freaked out. I think she told him that she started a fire at her school to avoid a math exam.

Chris Geere played such a dick. He was a little rude to Aya Cash.

I can see where this is going though, I'm sure they fall in-love and get married or what ever.
I'll be tuning in next week

I was a bit surprised that I liked this more than I liked Married. I was expecting the opposite.

Still though, like you said, it feels like we know where it's going. I'll give it a couple more chances...

I bet it doesn't end up happily ever after. But it has to turn out more than mere bickering too. At any rate I suspect it's too subversive to survive for very long.

Perhaps the title should serve as a warning.

I like it, but if these numbers are correct, it doesn't look like it'll last long.

I thought this was the worst episode so far, until tonight I really liked this show, tonight was a little blah. I still like it a bit better than Married. I take it the numbers aren't too good, I think the leads are pretty good, especially Aya Cash, she's pretty good and the chemistry is good, I like the roommate too. Surely they'll finish out the season.

It's Flo! from the commercials! (the bookstore owner), on episode 2...

Man Thursdays became my favorite all of the sudden, 2 hot redheads back to back, although I would like to see Judy Greer having more action just like Aya Cash..

RIP Mom, we always love you 8/18/13

I'm not enjoying this too much. I prefer the earlier program called Married. I'll try and watch it again later to decide.

Show is well written but not sure people will warm to the notion of the two leads begrudgingly learning to like each other.

I think so too, I gave up on Married, but I'm enjoying this show a lot, the back and forth between the two leads keeps me totally entertained and laughing a lot.

I watched this show online backwards and think it is okay. Glad it is on cable rather than network so it can push limits. Kinda in the mode of Don't Trust The B**** in Apartment 23 but can actually be more biting and doesn't have the pov of the "nice" person. I'll watch it for now. The issue with the show is where does it go. Some of my favorite stuff is with Gretchen's work. I hope we see a lot more of that.

Jerry. Just remember. Its not a lie . . . if you believe it. GC

I watch and love this show. Also watch Married which I consider inferior to You're the Worst.

Yep. The leads have great chemistry and they're always entertaining when they're on screen. I like it a lot too but it doesn't seem as though a whole lot of people are watching...

I agree about Gretchen, she is the star of the show in my mind, gotta give the writers a lot of credit or the combination, whatever it is, she's quick and witty and the timing seems nearly perfect.

Yeah, I'm bailing on Married and sticking with this one too. The cast has a lot more energy and sparky friction. The cast on Married all seem like they are just really tired. That might be an accurate reflection of life but it doesn't make for great comedy.

Another good one tonight, it's like one ok one and one really good one every other week. I wonder if they can keep up the writing. I think I was laughing through at least half the show tonight. The sidekicks are getting better each week too.

Not so good tonight, the show doesn't work well for me unless the two leads are interacting. Apart it just doesn't work. Next week is the season finale and hopefully not the series finale. I thought last week's was one of the best one's of the series. Meeting the parents.

Yeah I thought it was all fairly pointless. It didn't tell us anything we didn't know about these characters and the back and forth was noticeably absent as was the comedy. It almost headed into a gloomy dramedy.

I think I got lost in the timeline a bit, wasn't Lindsay very happy with her hubby last episode and now she wants to abandon him and head for New York with Gretchen? mmmm

I think LOST ruined the flashbacks for TV for ever LOL

Hit and miss finale with some good moments. I liked the "punch you in the clit" line and the exploding Magic Wand.

Overall I would give the season a C+. A good collection of characters. The show works much better when it's Gretchen and Jimmy onscreen but the show spent a lot of the season having people doing their own thing too much. Edgar just seems to be floating around with no direction. Maybe now he has the hots for Lindsay the show can have the group being together more often.

If it comes back.

Well, it's coming back, but moving to FXX according to the HOTP thread. I can live with that. Married is also coming back and it's staying on FX. Now, if I can just get some good news about Manhattan coming back.

'You're the Worst' Creator: Move to FXX "Doesn't Affect Us at All"
By Lesley Goldberg | Monday, February 2, 2015 | hollywoodreporter.com

You're the Worst die-hards, rest easy. Jimmy, Gretchen, Edgar and Lindsay are going to be just fine when creator Stephen Falk's critical darling comedy makes the move from FX to FXX.

The comedy - which centers on two horrible people, Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash), and their misadventures in life, love and romance - quickly became a critical darling during its 10-episode run on FX.

FX renewed the anti-romantic comedy for a second, expanded season of 13 episodes and announced the series would move to its newer, younger-skewing sibling network FXX, quickly raising concerns among the wave of critics who embraced the series and its originality.

"Being on FXX doesn't affect us at all," creator Stephen Falk tells The Hollywood Reporter of the move. "They gave me no mandate. When I got the call from FX Networks CEO John Landgraf explaining we were going to FXX, my concern was it would feel like a demotion. But I wasn't concerned about the perception."

FXX typically caters to adults 18-34, as opposed to FX's focus on the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 set. You're the Worst's addition comes as the younger-skewing network recently hit ratings paydirt with its Every Simpsons Ever marathon, a move Falk notes helped FXX hit its ratings mark two years ahead of schedule.

"They really wanted some signature shows on there; they wanted us to help - along with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League and new comedy Man Seeking Woman - to anchor FXX and help brand it," Falk says. "As John said, there's still a learning curve - they're still trying to find 100 percent exactly what the difference is and I think there's a perception already. You can tell there's a difference: FXX is a little younger - and maybe a little weirder.

"I always saw this show as appealing to everyone just because it's not a teen dating show," Falk continues. " So I was concerned. But they obviously put all those questions to bed. The other nice benefit is FXX is in 77 million homes as opposed to 90 million for FX, so our ratings threshold is a little lower. I think we're going to have more breathing room and, as John said, as long as we continue to grow creatively, the ratings are less than important."

As for what to expect plot-wise when YTW returns - likely in the summer - Falk noted the entire writing staff from season one is returning and already hard at work on its sophomore run. The comedy will pick up a couple weeks after Gretchen moves in with Jimmy after accidentally burning her house down.
"Theyre probably not ready to move in together just as they weren't ready for a relationship - but they are," Falk says. " So we're accelerating it even more so we'll see if it's a mistake or not. But we're just dealing with what it looks like when Gretchen can't necessarily leave."

Gretchen's full-time addition to the house will also create a new source of stress for Edgar Desmin Borges, a former soldier already dealing with PTSD, while Lindsay Kether Donohue will continue to devolve. "Suddenly, he's the third wheel as opposed to the second," Falk says. "And Lindsay is reeling in the aftermath of her husband leaving her for a girl he met on a website. So we're going to see Lindsay, the hot mess she already was, spiral even further, which is a lot of fun."

Another thing Falk will incorporated into YTW's upcoming run: Donohue's singing voice, on display in season one during her heartbreaking cover of Kate Bush's "Woman's Work."

"Without giving too much away, we took note that Kether has an amazing singing voice. But it was also pathetic and hilarious at the same time, so I think we're going to take the cue of it being pathetic and hilarious, but also tuneful, and keep going with that," Falk says. Settle down with a plate of Edgar's nachos and some Trash Juice until You're the Worst returns.
