Legends on TNT

August 13, 2014 (tonight) "Legends" premieres on TNT at 9pm E/P.

From http://www.tntdrama.com/shows/legends.html

Quote:
Based on the award-winning book by master spy novelist Robert Littell, Legends stars Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings) as Martin Odum, a FBI agent with the ability to transform himself into a different person for each job.

I have it programmed in my DVR.

My very humble setup:
Man Cave:Vizio E500i-A1 "Smart TV" (50-in 1080p 120Hz LED/LCD, has Netflix app.), Blu-ray players (Sony BDP-S3100, old LG BD390), Roku (the original model: N1000), PC (Windows 7), Comcast Internet (25Mbps/5Mbps).
Bedroom:LG 32LV3400-UA TV (32-in 768p 60Hz LED/LCD), HD DVR (Motorola RNG200N), Xfinity Comcast cable (Digital Starter Package), DVD/VHS player.

But will the series end with his death? After all, it's Sean Bean.

I'd nearly forgotten about this. I'll give it a shot just because of Sean Bean.

Kind of a dumb, ridiculous plot, but I will give it another couple episodes.

The 3-4 minute segment following the end was hilarious. Mainly centered on Sean's history of seldom making it to the end alive.

That didn't leave much of an impression with me. Pretty bland and managed to hit most of the clichés: trouble at home because he's always working, sexy female controller he once dated, geeky computer techs with magic hacking skillz. Sean Bean was pretty good but he needs a more interesting and original cast around him.

I like one of the techs 'Tina Majorino' , I remember mostly from Veronica Mars(as Mac) and a short stint on True Blood, but didn't realize until I was checking her credits on IMDB that she was the little girl(Enola) in 'Waterworld' ..

As far as the show goes, not sure if I'll stick with it or not, Ali Larter is pretty easy on the eyes and right now there isn't much else to watch when it airs.

I thought it was a pretty good start. A little disappointed in the "Trust No One" line. That line needs a rest.

how many breaks did they take in shooting that episode (or the whole series)

the alternate haircuts he had were very jarring to watch going between scenes.

So far, a disappointment. Having Ali Larter go to the club to warn Sean Bean about the danger was a completely superfluous scene, it changed nothing and added nothing except gave the show a reason to show her in a stripper outfit (not complaining, but it was totally unnecessary).

However, it wasn't quite horrible enough for me to stop watching. I'll give it another few episodes before I decide whether to stay up on it or not.

The biggest failure of the pilot: Sean Bean is pretty awesome and they totally under-utilized him. Yes, he was in almost every scene, but usually as a whimpering psychotic "patriot" or as a confused shadow of himself. Where's the bad-ass dude we all know is in there?

I too have a pretty highly developed ability to suspend disbelief but even my credulous nature is being tested by Legends. When the evil ex Chechen colonel insisted that Our Hero kill a bound and gagged hostage with a drop of the colonel's VX, I groaned. Oh well, as others have said, Sean Bean is good enough to make reading the phonebook entertaining so I will stick with the show for at least a little while longer.

I think we all agree: we're dangerously close to letting this show go. I'll see if next week's episode is any better, if not, I'll spend my time on something more worthwhile.

Tonight's episode is Number 5 out of 10. Under the circumstances, I will almost certainly finish the season. There's something to be said for any show that stars Sean Bean and the twists and turns of the plot have left me wondering who are the good guys and who the bad. Legends has been good enough to keep me around.

I still have last weeks and now tonights episode unwatched on my DVR. Was about to throw in the towel on this show, but will give it another chance. Heck, it's only 10 episodes.

I just threw in the towel. I have more than enough with other shows and a growing Netflix queue to keep me busy for the next ten years.

There really is a lot to be said for short seasons. It seems to me that the longer the season, the more likely it its that the writers will pad their screenplays with extraneous claptrap, which is more often than not soapy. In an 8 or 10 episode season, the writers have to get on with the storytelling, which makes it far less likely that they will bore us with soap opera sideshows.

+ 1 on shorter seasons. 10-13 episodes seems just about right, especially on cable where the budget is often tight.

I've been watching and I'll see it through to the end of the season. It's not as bad as you might suspect from reading this forum. Yes, it hits a lot of the cliches, but it does a better job with them than a typical network show. Ali Larter is easily the worst link on the show. Partly because she's a sub-par actress, but mostly because the writers clearly don't know how to write a female role in the world of the show.

I think the show is a lot like The Black List. James Spader's remarkable performances in that show make up for the rest of the truly bland cast. I'm feeling the same with Sean Bean.

^^^ The analogy you have drawn between Sean Bean in Legends and James Spader in The Blacklist is spot on, I think. Both shows are burdened by less that stellar supporting casts and stories that sometimes miss the mark. Still, there is enough excitement and mystery in both shows that, coupled with their terrifically talented stars, they work.

I like Legends. I'm all in with Bean's portrayal as a guy more comfortable in his personas than his rapidly collapsing "reality". Course, he might have had a tad help in that. I dropped out of BL. Spader's great, but the flaws are too great to overcome. Those similar flaws in Legends don't seem as magnified perhaps because the central character is a bad ass with real problems (which he'll eventually sort out...probably with great colateral damage) while Spader's characterized as uber-man...way too sexy for his shirts.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.
