Scorpion on CBS HD

Pretty disposable pilot, way, way over the top. I'm giving it one more try and if it's not any better it's off my DVR.

An odd collection of misfits. I'll also be watching next week to see what they do without the high octane of being a pilot episode.

My very humble setup:
Man Cave:Vizio E500i-A1 "Smart TV" (50-in 1080p 120Hz LED/LCD, has Netflix app.), Blu-ray players (Sony BDP-S3100, old LG BD390), Roku (the original model: N1000), PC (Windows 7), Comcast Internet (25Mbps/5Mbps).
Bedroom:LG 32LV3400-UA TV (32-in 768p 60Hz LED/LCD), HD DVR (Motorola RNG200N), Xfinity Comcast cable (Digital Starter Package), DVD/VHS player.

We will definitely be watching a few more episodes. Wasn't bad. Not sure I believe everything they did was possible but it is TV so you have to give them some wiggle room. If I wanted reality I would go outside more.

I hate-watched it to see how badly they'd mischaracterize 'geniuses.' I wasn't disappointed in that respect. I stuck it out for about 40 minutes before I got bored. I might watch it one more time just to yell at my TV again.

Noticed that this show has a 34% rating on RT.

After watching, I couldn't sum it up better than how a reviewer put it:

"it's just a show about smart people told idiotically."

I was looking forward to this new show, but after watching it last night, I'd have to say that was one of the most idiotic things I've seen in awhile.

the real Walter O'Brien was on Adam Carolla podcast
http://adamcarolla.com/nick-santora-and-walter-obrien/

so you can say that geniuses are mischaracterized, but when the actual guy is an EP and also a consultant, it's gonna be as characterized as it possibly can be.

Only two things are certain with this show: Katharine McPhee is still gorgeous. And she still can't act. Or as I like to call it: "Minka Kelly Syndrome".

I was prepared to believe it would be a bunch of cliches about smart people. Now the having to do a bunch of stuff on the fly wasn't that good but I liked that they had lots of people help and work together. The only horrible cliche I saw is the kid beating the grandmaster in chess in 8 moves. That's basically impossible if the grandmaster is putting any effort into it. Chess, however, has never been handled well in anything except the movie "Night Moves."

Of course, Walter has to be good looking and they need a good looking woman. The psychiatrist/psychologist is the worst character in the bunch and they really push the crap meter with him figuring out where the computer was by analyzing the nature of the dude. They did level it out by having him put the computer part next to the loudspeaker magnet.

I actually thought it was much better than I anticipated. So I will watch a few more.

Jerry. Just remember. Its not a lie . . . if you believe it. GC

Because I turned this off before they figured out how to land a plane sans computer, I missed the great climax. I just read what happened over on IO9.

Spoiler!

Variants of "NCIS" etc I was expecting more.

I like the actors, but the characters were stereotypes and the plot was way over-the-top. However, in hopes that they will tone down the plots, I'm going to give it another chance.

I was prepared to hate it, but to my surprise, I didn't. It certainly is better than the other new CBS show we watched, Madam Secretary. Or maybe I just find it more interesting; neither show spent much time developing it's premise or it's characters. Anyway, in the case of Scorpion, I'll give it another chance.

When I first watched the pilot a few months ago, I kept saying "not possible" a lot. We'll see what future episodes hold regarding the "not possible" factor.

"How Long have I been gone?" Alexis after arriving home and seeing Castle and Beckett w/ the baby - Castle - 11/25/13

Listened to this today (a few episodes behind... Busy week at work). The interview was one of the most interesting I've heard in a while. The opening scene was just like how he told the story on the podcast. I'm watching now... Hopefully the show can be as interesting as the real story.

For those that haven't listened to the podcast, google Walter O'Brien. 4th highest IQ ever recorded.

Please someone explain the climax of the episode to me.

The plane flies over the airport runway 8 feet off the ground while a car races at the same speed beneath it so that the co-pilot can hang out the landing gear and pass down a USB cable to a girl holding a laptop. Uhh....

They're at an airport. They're on a runway.

#1 ) How long is this runway that they have time to do this? Is it the same runway from the last Fast & Furious movie?
#2 ) WHY DOESN'T THE PLANE JUST FRIKKIN' LAND ON THE RUNWAY? Then Walter can walk up to it and plug his laptop in. Duh.

If Walter O'Brien is a real person, and he in any way endorses this show as being "Based on a true story," I don't care how high his IQ allegedly is, Walter O'Brien is a goddamn liar.

So much of this show seemed like bullcrap. I might watch a little more, but it seems rather silly.

Why didn't they just land the plane? I mean they could have gotten to a suitable length runway after they got communication.

Heck, let's have someone explain the start of the program by asking if the tower at LAX is down, why aren't they just diverting to Long Beach & John Wayne?

They attempted by saying the updated covered all LA area airports (Burbank, John Wayne).

I must've missed that while yelling something snarky at the TV.

So then, how 'bout San Diego, Santa Barbara, Tiajuana, San Bernardino, Palm Springs? Or, military is obviously ok to fly, how 'bout those strips?

nowadays, you can`t beat any grandmaster in 8 moves.
also, they don`t get checkmated. they resign.
if the genius is a consultant in this show, he fails.

I also loved how they could just look at the kid and know exactly what he was thinking about. Because apparently all geniuses think exactly the same as one another.

Watched the pilot episode last night...
I imagine probably 99.9% of what the "geniuses" did was impossible, so this show's on the "Under the Dumb" level already.
I'll go way out (not really) on a limb here and predict an early cancellation.
