Volume Dipping on DirecTV

I have the DirecTV DVR HR34/700 connected to a Marantz NR 1604 receiver. Unfortunately, for the past week or so I've noticed that when watching DirecTV that the volume dips by about half for almost 2-3 seconds and returns to the set level. I don't know if it's a problem with the receiver or with DirecTV. Is anyone else having this issue or heard of it happening?

I have had that symptom twice with older DirecTV hardware (HDVR2's). In both cases, it was the earliest symptom of a worn out hard disk in the DVR. The audio problems slowly got worse, then the video started to degrade as well. This is caused by increasingly common disk errors that cause retries. If you have wanted the upgrade to a whole house DVR, now is the time.
