2015 Formula 1 in HD.

Picking up the new silly season from the old silly season here

Let the driver swaps, the aero swaps and engine swaps commence once again...

Happy New Years guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cant wait for racing to start, should be interesting or at least weird to see Seb and Fernando on new teams. Now if we can only get rid of the power units and get better tires......

I am looking forward to the new season. Fred at McLaren, Seb at Ferrari, and seeing what happens with Nico at Mercedes will all be interesting stories.

Hopefully there won't be more carnage with bankrupt teams.

After that I left and never returned. The mods lost control of it, IMHO. I recently left a music thread over on SH forums. I really enjoyed it, but it became too toxic with a couple of shills who argued endlessly with anyone not drinking their Kool-Aide.

I liked Oink. He always made great contributions to the F1 threads.

Come on, man.

It's a ****ing HT forum where liked minded folks talk about stuff we love. Use the ignore feature if you feel the need, but everyone is welcome here. Oink seems to me to be a salt of the earth kind of guy, and I miss his contributions.

In the past, I have taken long vacations from AVS, but at the end of the day, it's a freakin' web forum. No one needs to get a stroke over anything that happens here.

Funny you put it that way. I feel the same and that's exactly why I had a problem with him. Don't know if you were even around when he was trying to run the F1 thread. He decided one day that it was ok to post pictures of his Cadillac but talk of IndyCar or NASCAR was strictly prohibited. He was very insistent about it for a while and that didn't go over well with me.
That's when he supposedly put me on his ignore list although he never forgot our exchange and always took the opportunity to get a dig in on me when possible.
Ironic that he spent so much time complaining about censorship and has become some sort of martyr for free speech after the way that he acted here..
Salt of the earth he was not.
Anyway...enough of that crap

Lots of carping on Twitter about this this morning.

http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/96...ngine-Upgrades

I have not gotten the whole story, and I assume the loop hole will soon be closed, but I think all teams should be able to work on the engines through out the season.

Merc did a brilliant job with the new engine configurations, but having the other teams fight with one arm tied behind their back is not what I think of when one reads that F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motor sports.

James Allen's comments on the engine rules.

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2015/0...ne-rules-mean/

All the teams might be able to squeeze out is one or two tenths a lap? And Merc will be able to do the same? Much ado about nothing, if you ask me.

F1 hasn't been that in decades, not when almost anything new gets banned in-season or at most before the next season.

LeMans racing is really where it's at. Fan friendly, race action, diversity of the race cars, and more. LMP1 is quickly becoming the pinnacle. Weber probably made a good move going to Porsche to race the 919. As a fan I always got a bigger kick out attending ALMS races than the F1 USGP.

Agreed, far more bang for the buck.I attended all the F1 races at Indy, and while the were for the most part great. The sound of the cars alone was spectacular,The ALMS races I went to at Sebring and the 2 Petite Lemans races were much more fulfilling,You could walk up to the Audi pit and get as many photos of the great R18,or stop at the Corvette tent and have the cars there in full view was special.

I actually just put my name on the list for WEC tickets at COTA.

The way F1 gouges the fans (or perhaps causes the circuits to do so), not to mention everything that goes along with it (hotels, parking, food at the track) has me looking at attending the WEC race rather than the F1 race.

The last time I went to an F1 race was in the 80's in Montreal. If I were to decide to go again, I would probably do Montreal rather than Austin. If I am going to grab my ankles for Bernie again, it will probably be there.

My wife and I are thinking about going to the WEC race in September, but COTA leaves a bad taste in our mouths. We are used to Sebring, Road America and Road Atlanta where we bring a cooler with our own water and food for the event. COTA doesn't allow you to bring anything in and then gouges you for food and water on track. That will make the WEC event more expensive than ALMS races were.
