WMAR Baltimore is showing 5.1 (3/2.1) but I'm only getting FL & FR. Anybody else having a problem? Of course WJLA DC is totally off the air.

Same here in Dayton, OH. Only getting front audio although my receiver says 5.1.

Our station is doing "5.1" for the first time tonight and we are getting bad lip-synch on the 5.1, but not on the 2.0 local cut-aways.

Showing up as DD 5.1 here on WPVI in Philadelphia, but no sound on the rear channels. Looks like a network feed issue.

My internal OTA receiver is indicating 720p and my TV indicates that it is upconverting that to 1080i, but I can assure you it doesn't look that hot.

I don't think so.

Even if it were only 2.0/pro logic, we still should be getting something in the center channel. Mines silent. ABC's screwing it up somehow. Commercials are messed up too.

OK, now I'm really stumped...if it is a national feed problem like it seems to be, how can anyone be getting it w/out problems?

It was the same today in the Triangle area of North Carolina.

Just checked on MI on ABC and they say:
"This repeat telecast will be broadcast in HDTV/stereo and will also air with simultaneous Video Description via the Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) system." SAP is on NTSC feed.

This will say 5.1 if it is sent to us that way.

This is like the stereo light in the early days. Most stations encode 5.1 and if all channels are sent then you get. I they send L/R then that is all you get. Really the station should on encode 2/0 for the stereo feeds.

Only 2.0 in Cleveland. Is anyone getting a reduced WS pic? I have black bars on the top and bottom. Usually HD shows fill up the whole 16:9 screen. Not tonight though.

Thanks,

Shark73 -

I think because tonight's movie is being shown in original aspect ratio, which is larger than 16:9, you're getting the black bars on your screen and I'm getting bigger ones than normal on my 4:3.

Yeah, if they're going to only provide stereo, they should distribute it in stereo so we can ProLogic it. Since it's 5.1, I'm stuck with only two speakers capable of sound.

oh boy, the Horrid Black Bar Issue again???

Everyone, this movie was shot with an Aspect Ratio of 2.35 or higher, thus you get bars on the top and bottom of the picture in order for it to be displayed properly on your 4:3 or 16:9 televisions. This is normal, and I actually prefer this method, but 99.99% of the population don't care, they just want their sets filled with a picture.

Yes, my receiver indicated 5.1, but in actuallity it sounded like the Pro Logic track on the DVD. I recognized this as soon as the movie began.

If you take a look at this file.

http://www.abcmedianet.com/primesche...RIDS_Jan13.xls

It shows that Mission Impossible is supposed to be in Stereo not 5.1. You guys are lucky my local ABC affiliate's digital signal only goes about 7 miles from the station until their combiner/splitter comes in.

Ditto kevinivey. It's a GOOD thing it didn't fill up the screen, or else the sides of the picture would have to be cut off.

We were getting a 16x9 broadcast, but only the middle portion happened to be showing a moving, color image.

Edited to add that, according to the IMDB, the movie's OAR was, indeed, 2.35:1

Linux,

Sorry for the horrid black bar question! I'm not usually around on Saturday nights to see ABC's movies. This was the first HD broadcast I've seen in OAR. I don't mind the bars, but I was surprised when I saw them.
