Damien "The Omen" on A&E

Based on the 1976 Omen movie, Damien follows the adult life of Damien Thorn (Bradley James), now a 30-year-old war photographer who has forgotten his Satanic past, facing his true identity. Ann Rutledge (Barbara Hershey), who has protected Damien all his life, will help him embrace his Antichrist side.

Premier is set for March 7th.

That's a hell of a thing to forget....pun intended.

Unless they do a lot of re-writing of the past, it's going to be hard to overcome your adopted father trying to kill you and other adults revealing your nature to you while at military school.

Plus, the whole premise of the original timeline was having Damien rise to power. That he would end up as a nobody with the full support of Hell behind him is a bit of a stretch.

Despite my reservations, though, I'll at least give it a shot.

I recorded it, but haven't watched it yet.

This is one of those shows where they can easily make it terrible.

It wasn't that bad. I like Revelation type movies/shows and thought it captured the feel of the movie nicely. The acting wasn't the greatest tho.

Does this have any gruesome, Rube Goldberg deaths? That's what I remember from the movie (beside Gregory Peck). The omen was like the original Final Destination.

I swore I had set this to record... but then I couldn't find it on the DVR. Looks like it gets repeated a bunch, though, so I'm trying again to record it Friday.

Yeah, when I set it up originally, I noticed it airs like 30 times in the week following the premiere. I wasn't worried about missing it.

Sort of, but they're not very elaborate or graphic, and they're pretty dumb. One character's car gets stuck in the mud, which turns into a sinkhole and sucks her under. That's about the extent of it.

The pilot episode is just really boring and dumb, and the acting is pretty bad. It doesn't work at all.

I'm going to give this a chance. I do like the background setting, although I'm not sure I'll stick around if it gets too far out of whack.

I'm currently slogging though the pilot, but i noticed what might be a mistake involving images from Damien's past.

At around the 24 minute mark, they show a photo of what I assume is suppose to be a young Damien being held by Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) with Katherine Thorn (Lee Remick) next to him. Just one issue: that doesn't appear to be Harvey Stephens that Gregory Peck is holding. All the other images are clearly Stephens from the original movie. This appears to be an image taken on location, but not while filming with possibly one of Remick's children or step children.

Mostly agree, the premiere was insipid and predictable. Most telling is that even religious horror fans aren't very enthusiastic about it.

The premiere should have built up to that moment with the elderly woman at the war-torn location.

Finally finished, and I found it all to be pretty laughable for a horror series. There was no tension, no suspense - not even any sort of quality killing going on.

As a photographer myself, I found it funny to see he had everything laid out on a light table, despite the fact he ought to be using digital cameras and everything he had on the table was a print, not a negative. The icing on the cake was seeing his cameras sitting on the table with the lens caps off the lenses in what looked to be a pretty far from clean loft apartment.

Of course, I loved that he always seemed to have a photograph readily available out on the table from his past to add emphasis when needed.

The sink hole thing was silly, and took away from one of the tenants of the original movie: i.e., everything that happened to people could be seen as a coincidence or unlucky accident. A sink hole in the middle of a parking lot that mysteriously fills itself back in is hardly coincidental.

Now that everything has been laid out for him and he's seen his little birthmark, it kind of kills the journey that the best bad guys take to get there. Instead, I feel like we're going to get "anti-Christ with a conscience" in the form of a "woe is me" Damien.

Boo hoo...the Devil is my daddy....

I'll give it one more to see where they want to take this, but I'm giving it a way shorter leash than most shows I try out.

I think this would have been much better if it was set around 1982-83 and was based around the events of the second movie where Damien was just becoming a teenager. It just doesn't work with the pretty boy 30 year old angst.

There would be a lot more potential for school bullies to have mysterious gymnasium equipment accidents, suspicious teachers to be gassed to death in a chemistry lab and perhaps the odd runaway bus accident where Damien comes out uninjured.

They would just have to avoid some sour looking creepy pygmy of a kid like they used in the remake of the original so he'd be believable as be innocent of it all. That last thing we'd need is endless shots of evil kid looking at people just to be creepy.

So, did everyone just give up on this show after the first couple episodes? I think you have done yourselves a disservice. It's by no means perfect but; the show has turned out to be quite good IMO. Once they were able to get over connecting the movies to the show things got much, much better. But I'm a sucker for Christian themed horror.

I'm current on all the episodes.

Slight spoiler that generally characterizes the direction of the show without giving away specific plot elements:

Spoiler!

So it's more interesting to me now in the last couple of episodes than it was earlier.

I gave up on it and haven't looked back. I don't care if it gets better.

There's too much other good stuff out there to wait and see if it clicks with me.

I'm not sure I agree, the fact that Damien denies and fights his "destiny" was rather refreshing [the idea, not so much the execution] vs. just redo the films on TV. We already have Lucifer for that kind of stuff I think[I don't watch that show].

I bailed after the first couple of episodes. Did they leave it as a cliffhanger hoping to get renewed? Or did they wrap things up as best they could?

No wrap up since it was filmed a while ago. They did set the direction for season 2. Won't ruin it in case you want to watch it but a lot happened and we saw what the future for Damien held.
