I hope THE GAME is in HDTV this year it would be a great way to end up the season. I think both programs have their best days behind them for awhile but it was a good run.

This is good news indeed.

My thing is why didn't D...TV make it truly a HD Package by including HBO and Showtime HD? Now they are going to expect us to pay an additional $10+ a month, lose free HDNet and continue to pay for the HBO and Showtime packages if you still want HBO-HD and Showtime-HD.

Do you really think that this is a good thing after all?

OK, first let me say sorry for going off subject from the original thread and that this is my last post in this thread.

With that said, yeah better days ahead that is what I am hoping for and I hope for no return to the 70's or 80's. -- isn't college sports the best, ok all sports rivalries are great - boy do I miss football (College and Pro)

Will be interesting to see if those of us with the HBO family pack can add it for $10.99 without having to get the total choice package. If so, I will sign up. If not, I will wait for Comcast as I would rather have CSN-HD than ESPN-HD.

The reason is because of agreements already in place with HBO and Showtime. When they come up for renewal maybe it will change whenever that is.

ABSOPOSITUTELY DAVE!!! It still boils down to paying an extra $10 a month for ESPN HD, Discovery HD and HDNet movies. I really don't think that's such a bad deal at all. It's a business reality that the large amount of additional transponder space required for this comes at a premium. It's not reasonable to expect them to do this at a loss.

I feel badly for those that switched to E prematurely.

Great day for DirecTv subscribers. Now all I need is that JVC DirecTV set-top box with firewire so I can record in glorious CBS HD our avenging that fluke of a game played Sept. 21, 2002. I got soaked for that result???

I'm in the same boat.

I only pay $12 total for my DirecTV bill and currently get HBO ala carte (including HBO-HD) as well as HDNET.

If I can add their HD package w/o subscribing to total choice, then I might be tempted by the offer to get ESPN, Discovery, and HDNET Movies all in high def.

No way will I subscribe if I have to add a bigger package though. I'll just wait for Charter Cable to roll out HD channels and dump DirecTV completely.

First the Superbowl
Then the Grammys
Next, the Oscars
After that, ESPN HD launches
Then the NCAA Tourney
Afterwards, The Masters
Next, the NBA Playoffs
Soon after, The Triple Crown
On now, the NBA/Stanley Cup Finals
Coming up, NFL and College football
Hopefully in the future, the Miss Universe Pageant
And Today, D* announces the freakin' HD package

Yes, 2003 IS the YEAR for HDTV!!

Dave

I've been waiting for D* to add more HD options before activating my built in hd d* tuner. Has anybody had success in getting D* to ship and install a phase III dish for free? If so, let me know how. Thanks

There isn't a whole lot of cost difference between the main feed and the feeds you actually get in the HBO and Showtime packges. In the past, it's been something like $4.00 to $4.50 for the HBO feed, or $6.00-6.50 if they want all the HBO2, HBO Comedy, HBO Signature, etc feeds. All those extra feeds are thrown in at a heavy discount, so it's not like you could get HBO-HDTV separately at 1/10, 1/5, or even 2/3 of the HBO package price.

In any event, current contracts specify that the HBO-HD feed can only be made available as part of the entire HBO package, so even if you wanted to buy HBO HDTV for $9.00/mo separately, they couldn't sell it to you. And even if they could, I suspect they'd just decide to take your $12 for the whole package instead.

JMF - I am on with D* right now... The choices the CSR is providing is the 3 LNB only for $8 shipping or a new dish plus install for $49 + $14 installation. Both require a 12 month commitment to Total Choice.

I will advise if I can do better.
