I will freely admit that it took me an awful long time to come to terms with BS, but I now consider it a work of genius.

My nomination for the dumbest thing you will read today:

https://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2017/...borace-series/

If there is no one behind the wheel, it is not a sport, and should never be spoken of in he context of true Motorsport. It is simply a contest between engineers. F1 today may be 90% engineer and 10% driver, but it is the 10% that keeps us interested. Take that 10% away, and what you have left is exactly dick squat.

Congrats to Valterri. He seems to be the consummate professional and team mate. I can't remember Ham saying anything negative about him.

I have a feeling that Bottas is keeping the seat warm for Ocon. I can see them trading seats in '19 or Bottas going back to Williams.

I had high hopes that he would challenge Ham this year, but clearly Merc knew what they were getting...a solid haul of podiums and constructors points, maybe a win if Ham or the red cars faltered for some reason, and that's that. The perfect wing man.

He is perfect. If he didn't win those two races, HAM wouldn't be in the points lead right now. Thanks Val!

Yeah, I thought Bottas would be quicker than Nico and challenge Ham. He seemed to be catching his stride before the summer break. I thought he might close the gap even more, but it looks like he didn't make the jump.

I think its neat myself, as a sort of curiosity. In fact if we can have driverless cars, then we can have unlimited technology. No need to slow the cars down due to driver safety. We could see 10 G turns, 300MPH top speeds etc. Seeing a car lap Spa in under a minute might be something worth seeing. On top of that, since there is now an engineers paradise with "Roborace" there is no need for F1 to be so. Turn it into high level worldwide Indycar (OK, maybe leave a bit of development). Have a real drivers championship!

He seems to be a one compound guy. If you notice, he always falls back when they put him on the option/prime while HAM doesn't even blink an eye. Next thing you know, he's 12 seconds back.

Had not seen this mooted before. I knew there was talk of Porsche being an engine supplier, but not owning a team.

I am confused though.....I guess it would be a mid-engine Nazi slot car rather than an ass-engine Nazi slot car. I actually think ass-engine sounds better.

Huh....Huh Huh...Huh Huh Huh...he said ass-engine.

This is probably the ultimate expression of Van Valkenburgh's Formula None. Maybe it could turn F1 into a better version of Indycar. I wouldn't be opposed to having Adrian Newey design a beautiful spec car and then having the manufacturers install their engines. Maybe they could even do something like sportscars with a more open engine formula.

That is a lot of money for a company the size of Porsche. I would love to see it, but Porsche would need a guarantee from RB to be the lead sponsor for the foreseeable future. I would also guess Porsche would only do this if Liberty can get cost reductions in place.

"The Renault deal is all done. Alonso staying is super news, but I can't see why McLaren will be any happier with Renault than they are with Honda. It wasn't Honda's fault things didn't work out, it was McLaren's. Every day they had a fight about everything, instead of working with them, which was a little bit stupid."

^ Interesting deal. I suppose the big loser is Jolyon Palmer who likely has no drive for 2018. But noone really cares about that.

Red Bull now have two chances of getting a competitive engine for 2019, so a good move from them.

I was almost going to post that I had not heard or seen Bernie for a while. Good to see they let him out of his crypt to comment on the current state of affairs in F1.

Meanwhile in the Med, cruising on his mega yacht the HMS Eff Hue, Ron Dennis reaches for a flute of Krug Clos d’Ambonnay, washing down a bite of Sevruga Caviar, indignantly sniffling, "So, Zack, how's life been treating you, old man?"

Just what I care about a quote from Bernie. Like MacArthur, can't he fade away.

RB is making out like a bandit. They get to choose the best of Honda or Renault for '19 or '20. If the regs change and Porsche buys them, then they have that to look forward to.

I just thought of this. Will we ever hear the end of it from BG if Ricc is driving a Porsche and winning races/championships?

Buzz out of Singapore adds credence to previous speculation about RB getting the Honda after 2018.

In related news, BGLeduc has just slit his wrists.

Button also quoted Danny saying that the RB engine deal will dictate where he goes. I think the silly season has now been officially extended to 2 1/2 years.

The quote from Buxton says Renault will not renew the deal.

Perhaps just a poor choice of words, or perhaps Renault sees greater potential for their lump in their own car and no longer want to see it in a Newey chassis.

Edit: A bit more on the speculation.

It would be beyond hilarious if Honda develops a great engine and RB finishes ahead of McLaren in 2019. In fact, I'm willing to bet thats what happens. Alonso is cursed.
