PBS:"Prime Suspect: Tennison on Masterpiece"

This is a prequel to ITV's "Prime Suspect," aired by PBS and discussed in this 2006 AVSforum thread. The Prime Suspect TV series, staring Helen Mirren, was excellent and one reason I bought the Blu-ray complete disc set years ago. The prequel, which explores Tennison's early years in the police is played by actress Stefanie Martini. Here's a partial NYT review of the prequel starting next Sunday on PBS.

^^^Intersting. Masterpeice schedules vary widely it seems. Wonder if Stefanie/Tennison is in the kind of trouble already, as mentioned by the NYT reviewer. Recall one comment from an impressed male officer in one Prime Suspect that Tennison had earlier served in a police 'flying squad'. -- John

Read the article again. It said "starting Sunday." That meant this past Sunday, since the article was written on the 22nd.

NYTimes review was very mixed, but I'm sure I'll watch it since I loved the original and have the entire series on BD. I recorded the first episode which I plan to watch tonight.

^^^I'll chase down episode 1 for viewing, too. Recall looking it up on my FIOS electronic guide but not having seen the NYT review yet didn't conclude it was a new series (Tennison in the title). Ah the minutia. -- John

We really liked it
Now I'll have to look up the original Prime Suspect and watch that. Not sure how but I missed it, if PBS carried it. Is it available for streaming on Netflix or anywhere else?

I enjoyed it enough to stick with it, although it was not a good as I was expecting. In my opinion it's not in the same league as Endeavour is to Inspector Morse.

Watched episode 1 from a PBS site and computer monitor since Verizon's FIOS and PBS only offered it for ~$2 via VOD. The young Tennison does get put on tea-serving duty and almost on a suspect vomit-cleanup assignment, but shows independence by discovering a hidden red Jaguar on her first murder investigation. Looks like a good series. -- John

Watched it two nights ago and think it was OK. I'm sure I'll stick with it because I like this kind of thing from Britain. In my opinion it doesn't hold a candle to the real Prime Suspect.

I sort of like Endeavour, but I don't particularly like most of the characters around him and don't see how they're going to "grow up" to be the characters in Morse. Plus, I'm in the middle of re watching every Morse episode, and I don't think Endeavour holds a candle to the original either.

AFAIK the original Prime Suspect is available for streaming only from Acorn media but I don't think it's available for streaming anywhere else. I purchased the BD of the series when it came out 1-2 years ago, and in my opinion it is a very worthwhile purchase.

Watched it last night on my Roku TV using the PBS app. I'll keep watching, the leading lady is easy on the eyes.
