Even if his uncle isn't the head bad guy, telling anybody about the asteroid is still enough to get the government to kill you if it finds out, and Tanz's uncle could very well spill the beans out of spite just to get Darius in trouble. There's no way he can trust his uncle with such risky information.

No matter how contrived the plot may be... the casting dept. has certainly provided ample eye-candy to keep me watching!

Overall, I am disappointed in this series. The premise was sold as a SF plot with Space Opera implied. The reality is another dark Washington DC conspiracy plot involving shadowy figures taking over the government, while our heroine and an Elon-Musk-lookalike oppose them and attempt to preserve the species. Armageddon meets Designated Survivor.

I was hoping it was at least a quick and dirty ripoff of The Expanse. It's not, and I suspect there will be nothing after the S1 cliffhanger.

For the record, I LIKE redheads with freckles, and dislike seeing them concealed under spray-on makeup.

I like Salvation. It's not compelling television but has been light years better than CBS's prior stabs at sci-fi in the summer. Sure, some of the plot developments have been ridiculously over the top. That just comes with the territory of lighter sci-fi action/adventure.

Yeah, I've enjoyed it as well. You can't expect a CBS summer replacement show to be high-brow, serious sci-fi. I didn't go into it expecting 'The Expanse'. I went into it expecting 'Extant', minus Halle Berry.

I think this has been significantly better than Extant. That show had so much wasted potential, but this one has been very consistent. Not great by any means, but consistently adequate.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Halle covered up a lot of the show's flaws just by being present.

Yeah, huge disappointment, hiding Wash DC political shenanigans inside a sci-fi beard. That was just done much better, with intelligence, humor, and bugs!

Of course that one was canceled, so we could have air time to watch stuff like this show.

I call BS. From the article:
"The EmDrive has no propellant and no exhaust and so completely goes against our understanding of how thrust works. Instead it supposedly works by bouncing electromagnetic waves around its interior, creating photons which then in turn produce thrust."

Well, some kind of fuel has to produce the "electromagnetic waves", right? I mean, aside from violating all the laws of physics, seems like it would be a great idea!

I'm not a physicist(anyone seen Neil?), but it did say in the article that NASA scientists do say it's theoretically possible, so who knows.

I guess we know where the writers got their inspiration for Salvation.

What would be more likely? EM Drive or the WARP engine?

I see the EM to be the travel to planets of the Solar System type of work..

I like all of the gears on the head end of the engine. Since it requires no fuel, do they just cram it full of EM waves before launch and then they just bounce around and spew photons?

So what's the over/under on them being able to reasonably wrap up all the open plot lines in a single 43 minute episode next week? Samson is still 130+ days out from earth.

BTW, it sure is a good thing Amanda found a modern copy of the King James Bible with the exact same page layout as Abraham Lincoln's copy. I mean it's not like different printings over 100+ years would have formatted it differently.

No, they turn electricity (from solar power most likely) to EM waves to power the engine. It doesn't require chemical fuel, but it does require electrical energy input.

Well, you can forget about warp drive. Not happening, not ever. Not that it's not theoretically possible, just that the energy requirements to warp space are too great. The EM drive seems kind of magical too, but simple solar sails that use the solar wind to push a spacecraft along are probably more feasible.

What will probably get the job done, at least for intra-solar system travel? A highly efficient fusion drive that provides continuous thrust (and thus artificial gravity) and can be run for months at a time, as in the world of 'The Expanse'. That's probably doable in another few generations. You'll be able to use it for interstellar travel too, just know that it's still going to take hundreds of years to get anywhere and it's going to always be a one-way trip.

Hey, I don't make the rules.

Really, so that's how they ended it? With 120 something days to impact and missiles in the air? Clearly someone was optimistic about their chances for renewal. At the current pace of the show they've got, what 5 seasons worth of cheesy drama to go?

I should have known that CBS wouldn't have aired a one-off season of a show. They always want more seasons. So much for the show to actually be wrapped up.

I mostly got what I wanted from the season. The cast was enjoyable, which is more the exception than the rule on CBS's normal summer programming.

The ending obviously left a lot hanging in the air. I hope they don't completely reboot the premise next season like CBS has been prone to do with their summer shows. Zoo became a completely different entity in its second season.

Typical Bait-and-Switch scheme. I guess it's good for the actors, who stay employed, but there will be one less viewer next year. The whole political slant was just unnecessary.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned that the amount of time it took to download the source code was way too short. Gotta speed things up for TV.

I don't think this thread had enough space for discussion of all the technical liberties they took with the show.

For me, they could of saved the show if they had the bombs detonate, all out nuclear war and then how the people cope in the shelter and/or take off to orbit/Mars. Anything short of that and its just another CBS show with a last minute save for the world.

A little late to the party, but just got through with the finale. I agree that everything about the show is ridiculous, but dammit, I don't care! I liked it more than any of the other CBS summer fillers and will definitely be back next year, god-willing, to find out what happened to Bennet (rescued by Resist! commandoes, no doubt), the ICBM's in the air (they'll either be shot down by antimissile defenses or detonated mid-air when Darius & Liam regain control of TESS), and how our heroes will use magnetism & the gravity tractor to save humanity! Oh, and what the next dance number will be down in the bunker!

The leader of Resist! was a surprise, as she was completely new to the show. I figured Darius's uncle would be the mysterious head of the organization (and he still might be). As for their stated reason to blow up the aircraft carrier, I thought Harris' son and the other Resist! geeks got out before the building was blown up. Wasn't that his reason for going there and warning them? For super smart hackers they're not smart enough to flee a building that's about to be blown up? I just figured the four bodies found in there were faked or something. So I guess next season will revolve around the fight against those guys and abandon the political intrigue angle. But that's just... Salvation speculation!

Seriously, I've seen a lot worse. And the cast is enjoyable, as PS says above. It's silly fun, and what more do you want from a summer fill-in ferpetesake? If you want plausible, scientifically accurate sci-fi with a dose of action, political intrigue and a little romance, you've got 'The Expanse' coming back in a few months. Ya'll need to lighten up.

^ Agree with you Arch, it's not The Expanse... but it's entertaining, the cast is nice to look at, and I will watch if it returns.

Maybe by next season they'll manage to get a Model 3 onscreen too (for days when Elon... er Darius is slumming it)
