Most of the questions answered for a "happy" ending, but I found both the main characters to be a bit flat in their performances. I get that they were hurt as children and had retreated into themselves as a result, but it was a bit much having flat actors, a slow plot reveal, and not enough backstory on him to cement the connection between them.
His history was glossed over, with barely the hint of his issues via the dominatrix relationship. That relationship should have been explored further, as a plot device to discover more about him. Really, the only interesting thing in the entire early story (other than the stabbing itself). Instead, they spent way too much time on the relationship with his wife, which I found to be annoying and unrevealing (yeah, he's uncommunicative and unresponsive, whahhhhh, whahhhh). WE GET IT!
Overall, less than it could have been ... if the writer had made better choices, it had a better pace, and actors capable of emoting through the facade they lived behind.
