YouTube taking over your TV

I'm not fan of online video to the point I avoid it at most costs. As such I have avoided YouTube to a large degree even when it came to my TV. I would occasionally view a Craig Ferguson bit however the other day I was looking to kill a few minutes and ran across TheStradman. Not really a car guy (had a few nice ones in the day) but I find the kid so entertaining I find myself deleting a few DVR recordings to catch some of this earlier works.

One of the reasons I haven't bothered is it feels like there are millions of videos without any good way finding what you'll enjoy. I know in the past I would view something and had zero interest in everything else that "popped up" I presume there are a few sites that review, index or whatnot most of the popular content? Anyone else finding their TV viewing being taken over by YouTube? If so, with...

I don't watch tv at all. Everything I watch now is streamed. Youtube, netflix, crunchyroll, amazon, and other stuff has got me covered with more stuff than I can keep up with. My to watch later list on youtube has 500+ videos in it. Then I have multiple other lists that have between 0 to 50 videos that I watch more than the watch later list. I could just watch youtube and still have way to much to keep up with.

What I watched today.
My Hero Academia on crunchyroll
Noruto Next Generation on Crunchyroll
TNG on Netflix
Devotion D&D game on youtube
Critical Role D&D game on youtube
GOT after show on youtube
A drink making show on youtube
A political show on youtube
A gaming show on youtube
a how to fix my NAS video on youtube
Domestic Geek cooking show on youtube

As a vintage gaming/computer/audio/gadget geek, I've discovered several Youtube channels:

8 bit Guy
Techmoan
LGR (Lazy Game Reviews)
Immortal John Hancock
Let's Compare (classic video games)

Also, Youtube is still the best place to sample a lot of music.
Lots of complete albums posted from indie and prog bands I wouldn't have found otherwise:
OSI, Chroma Key, 80's bands, etc

...and for the alternative stuff....

Most episodes of the UFO Files are on Youtube (best series to date on the subject, IMO)

This is a great thread. I watching YouTube much more now especially because of their 4K HDR videos. In the evenings there isn't much content on DirecTV with the exception of my DVR and the recorded content that keeps me interested.

I typically only watch YouTube videos on the computer, I prefer long-form stuff on the TV. Every now and again the Android TV home screen will highlight a YouTube video that catches my attention, but that's pretty much the extent of it.

I will throw some attention to Binging with Babish though as a YouTube series that I do watch regularly as it comes out (albeit on my computer).

Is it uncensored; e.g., bleep free? Thanks.

I'd guess his channel would be rated PG (at worse). Nothing to censor...

I've always been into cars!

I started watching Stradman's videos last year. I think it was the Newport Lamborghini show and maybe the HRE wheels show.

I've watched a LOT more YT on my Tivos the past couple of years. Lots of good to excellent DIY stuff, niche hobby stuff, game and car reviews etc. Tons of good stuff in my subs and am always finding new stuff to watch, I probably spend as much time on YT as I do watching cable shows now. Saved me a bunch of money on repairs too.

Not being a car 'nut' I get just as much of a kick out of (if not more so) the surrounding aspects. Such as the entirely white garage in a recent video. A while back they featured a garage that rivals Trump tower. Also getting a hint of the billionaires/millionaires personalities is engaging. Not to mention the food vlogs or trying to fit Lucy in the trunk.

Now that I have caught up with my subscribed channels my viewing time has decreased quite a bit. Although it has replaced quite a chunk of my wind down TV viewing. And I much prefer watching on the TV versus the computer... getting away from the endless hours at the PCs. Still looking for a few more channels to ensure new videos are waiting.
