Gerald's Game premiered on Netflix on September 29th...1922 premieres on October 20th...both are based on Stephen King books and reviews have been generally excellent for both...right up there with It as far as the best King adaptations for the big or small screen...I watched Gerald's Game last night and it was very good...it's about a woman whose husband dies of a heart attack while she is handcuffed to a bed, and, following the subsequent realization that she is trapped with little hope of rescue, begins to let the voices inside her head take over...stars Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood...it's a bit of a slow burn and most of the story takes place in a single location but it's really well done and well acted...towards the end there is one of the most graphic, gory and disturbing scenes I've ever seen...I love horror/gore but that scene made even me squirm
1922 is getting even better reviews...the story is based on one of Stephen King's lesser known short stories...the year is 1922 and a farmer (Thomas Jane) decides to kill his wife for a bunch of money, roping his son in on the act, too...after dumping her body in a well, he starts to experience all kinds of horrific visions and psychological torture...
Watched it for Carla and got bored long before the end. Could have been a taut thriller, but became a tiresome excercise in psychotherapy. Sounds faithful to the book though
And like many of Stephen King's books the ending feels tacked on and out of place given what most of the movie is about. He nearly always has a problem with endings. It's King's biggest weakness.

Gerald's Game was fairly short (around 82 minutes) so I don't think people will get bored...there were apparently some changes from the book which as usual hard core book-readers were upset about but I liked it...wasn't the greatest ending but as far as 'twists' I thought it was good and didn't detract from the rest of the movie...and the gore scene at the end was fantastic...horror/gore fans should be very happy...1922 is apparently even better so I'm looking forward to watching that this Friday...great shows to watch to get you in the Halloween mood
Netflix originals I consider TV and not movies...are HBO original movies considered movies per say?
Watched this, thought it was just OK and was kind of glad when it was over. I have no idea was scene you are talking about though that was so gory. I have seen WAY worse on TV shows and movies.
if you don't know which scene everyone's talking about then you didn't watch the entire movie...name some TV shows that showed a WAY more gory scene...movies like Saw I can see it but even for movies this was pretty impressive from a gore standpoint...
watched 1922 last night...I agree, it was a letdown...wasn't scary at all...I like Thomas Jane (actor) and he did a solid job but the overall story felt like it barely had enough material to cover the length of the movie...felt slow throughout (maybe the last 30 minutes picked things up a bit)...most reviews pegged 1922 as better then Gerald's Game but I felt the opposite
I watched 1922 last night and only posting to give huge props to Thomas Jane and his performance. It was worth it just to see him perform.
